  • It is 4 months since we put Coppercoat on our boat and now it's time to check the hulls underwater and see if Coppercoat works or not. Will there be any barnacles? Can you really clean the hulls with just a sponge?
    We then explore the capital of Martinique, get lost, eat some French pastries and set sail again for St Martin. Hop onboard!

    Next time you're passing that way Isles d'Saintes at the bottom of Guadeloupe is beautiful. And if you weren't already planning to I'd also recommend a stop off in Saba and dive the Pinnacles there.

      Yes we LOVED Des Saintes. Great fun exploring by golf buggy there 😂 (check out Ep29). We haven’t been to Saba yet but we’ve heard great things 😊

      It’s a perpetual challenge. We want to break free from the 9-5. We have decided to become content creators (more hours than the 9-5 but worth it) to share some of the cool places we get to see but the running costs are much higher than when we had a house. We are not complaining. We get to live a wild life this way but just wish there was a way to earn while we do it.

    Fun channel, followed you since Brooks hopped on fit the volcano. The reason you are having issues w your sunglasses is that instead of purchasing dozens of the cheap plastic lens ones you need to actually invest in one or two really good glass lens sunglasses. So many less headaches.

      Cheers! Yeah, it’s a difficult one to swallow of course. Nervous that we spend a fortune on food glasses only to have them fail too. But it sounds like you have some experience here. Perhaps we will hunt down some “real” sunnies next. Thanks.

      Never knew we could be so happy going shopping. It’s an amazing store and we genuinely had to have a serious conversation and take things back to the shelves so we didn’t spend all our food money on toys.

    Great to see your CC is working like it should.
    I remember a couple of years back we hit that Decathlon with 4 other boats, we rented two cars and a van because we were anchored 25-30 km North of Fort du France. Everyone bought so much stuff it would hardly fit in all the vehicles and that was before we made a provision run to the big supermarket. I'll put it this way everyone except the drivers had something on their lap and the cars looked like their suspension was lowered.

    • @RedSeas

    I use my deck brush. For barnacles I turn it over and use the wood edge. For bad barnacles, I use a long stainless grill spatula. Mostly I can clean the whole bottom without submerging my dive mask snorkel thingy.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good call on the deck brush. Before coppercoat we would use a paint scraper for barnacles and a deck brush for the soft stuff.
      Coppercoat doesn’t get too much in the way of barnacles as you saw but they are quite clear on the cleaning being with something soft. I think CC Uk even suggest a carpet tile as a scrubber

    • @johnkosowski3321
      @johnkosowski3321 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RedSeas The stainless grill spatula is like a paint scraper but stainless and longer to keep your knuckles away from the barnacles, even with gloves on. And more reach. My marina has a killer tide flow and barnacles grow like crazy.

      It’s worrying that it wasn’t too hard to find those examples isn’t it? 😂
      Walking out of that store was probably one of the only times that Iain has ever been sad to finish shopping. Such a fun place but yes, really dangerous on the bank balance.

    Copper coat looks great. I order 4 packs of peepers off of Amazon, like yours mine get all scratched up. My Scottish side of the family tended to have Glaucoma so one needs to watch out for the eyes.

      We do go thru a worrying number of glasses. I wonder how much the salt air and water can damage them too. That said, we have had a few spectacular “glasses whipped of face by loose sheets” moments just never managed to catch them on camera.

    Best way to clean the your sunglasses is to use dish soap.
    And I REALLY hope you got paid to use “Dancing With the Devil” because you have joined almost every other TH-cam channel in doing so. Though I still like your overall music the best of the channels I watch.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice one, we should give that a go and see how long they last. The salt water and sea air really do a number on them.
      Sadly we don’t get any revenue from our music choices. The opposite sadly. That said, we have been searching for new artists to share with you all thru episodes so if you know anyone out there looking to share their music, let us know!

    This may be a long shot but check your outboard oil level. There has been experience with newer motors that the oil too full can cause your symptoms. Set the oil level toward the lower mark and retry it. Good luck.

    I suggest you get a scuba tank with a long extended hose. It will cut the time to clean your hull in more than half, and a lot safer

    • @AbNomal621
      @AbNomal621 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t do this without having scuba training. You can cause serious lung damage even at those shallow depths.

    • @jeffsallus8406
      @jeffsallus8406 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AbNomal621 I have been a diver for over 40 years, your statement makes it sound like scuba is a dangerous sport and not to attempt it without expensive training. The reality is many resorts are doing dives with people that have no training. All I was saying is they may want to invest in the equipment to make the job faster and safer due to them not having to get exhausted doing the keels. They could have the tank on there deck and a hose in the water with the regulator. It’s not like they are making dives at 150’ for an hour. We’re looking at 6 to 10 foot depths

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      As it happens we are both keen divers too. We have a couple of tanks onboard and have used them once in cleaning a while back. To be honest, while tiring, it’s quite nice to get the workout of repeat freedives. We just watch our CO2 levels and take breaks as we need.
      And hour long dives at 150 feet have been some of our best dives ever. Don’t get many of them in the Caribbean tho. Perhaps we can get back into those in a few months time.

    • @jeffsallus8406
      @jeffsallus8406 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RedSeas nice to know I figured you were divers. Most sailors know how to dive. I have used a hooka system when I had a mono hull and will use one when I get my cat in a few years.

    • @AbNomal621
      @AbNomal621 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffsallus8406 I am not really surprised that some resorts have people dive without training. And while diving isn’t dangerous, without knowledge one can easily cause themselves lung damage. Just at the depths for cleaning one has almost 15% change in air volume.
