It doesn't matter what the content is, when Sunday rolls around I'm always excited to see another Sail Life video -- and have been for what feels like at least 7 years??

I can't imagine how proud you must be sailing the boat you spent so much time dreaming about and working on. I've been here for the entire journey and couldn't be happier for the two of you! Cheers from dry, hot, Phoenix, Arizona!

I'm glad to see the Cooppercoat is working out for you guys I never doubted it would it's all in the application and like everything else you do you did it right by the book. With an understanding of the way the product works. Exposed copper is the idea and your attention to detail wins every time. Stay safe I ended the video very much.

Hey, guys. Been watching and taking notes for quite some time now (thank you, Mads!). Last episode you mentioned the challenge of switching from a DIY format to a sailing format. My boat is in the middle of an extended overhaul, so I watch a few different TH-cam channels and I have some things I look for, and while I’m certainly NOT everybody, I thought you might welcome one guy’s opinion…
    1. Be you. You guys seem like genuinely good people, keep being awesome.
    2. In this video you did some non-speaking scenes… water on the hull, hands on the wheel; that type of thing. I like that, it helps me “feel” it…
    3. You also took you video walking around town. Yes, please! I will probably never get to go there; make me jealous 😁.
    4. Sailing footage is always good, of course.
Thanks for doing what do. I’m going to back to lurking in the shadows now, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the channel grows!

Mads and Ava I think you have made the transition for pure DIY to multi dimensional videos just fine.👍
    1. Did Harken screw up with the oversized holes on the furler section?
    2. Do your scan strut mounts and chargers accommodate a phone in a waterproof case?
    3. Has Ava ideas about a spiffy cover for the diving tanks?😉
    Keep up the good work.

    Hi Mads
You purchased Athena from my Dad and he enjoys watching your videos and seeing what you have done over the last 5 years.
He has given me all his courtesy flags from his trip around the world in Athena and would be great meet up and give them to you.
I live near Dublin and I see that you are heading this way so hopefully We could meet up somewhere in Ireland and give them to you.
He would be so happy if you got them and a little gift for your pending circumnavigation
    Best Regards

Thank you so much for reaching out! I hope your father is doing well :) I'm disappointed we didn't get to go back to Scotland. I would have loved for your father to come visit us :)
The courtesy flags would be an amazing gift but unfortunately we won't get to Dublin this time around. We're currently in Kinsale heading west (or trying to) but at the end of the month we need to go back to France.
      All the best, Mads

hi Mads! If you are shocked by the mooring rates in the south of England, you will have a heart attack if you sail the west coast of the USA. In Seattle, I pay per month what you pay for a full year in Denmark for a slip. I have a 28 footer.😳 Southern California is almost twice that rate if you can find any space...

    • @rancidbilgewater4641
      @rancidbilgewater4641 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Coming from California, we were surprised how affordable the south of England seemed! The bounty of free anchorages helps. The only affordable boat storage in most of California is on a trailer-and that wouldn't quite work for a boat like Athena. The place I live has a 15+ year waiting list for a slip in the marina. And just using the launch ramp costs almost as much as two nights at some harbors in England!

So if you're diving anyway check your anchor. It helps to visualize how it sets. Also a suggestion. You have more systems on board than most boaters. Maybe feature a system every now and then...how it's working, how useful you find it, the best way you've found to access the system (cell phone app vs direct access, etc.)

There ARE free general anchorages on US charts, as opposed to "special anchorages" which are always locally run for money. There are also a number of well documented town docks that offer limited free anchorage.
Both require lots of reading to find!

Another great video. I am constantly amazed at the growing cost of boating/sailing. £18 to Moor your boat on a pontoon and a bit less to anchor. If the marine industry keeps ripping us off boat will become unaffordable and it will all impload on itself - I'm on anchor why do I have to pay anything?

Mads, you should watch the last few videos from the sailing channel named Sailing dauntless.
They have been replacing thier almost new saildrives on thier catamaran. Stray shore power from the dock and water in the marina completely destroyed thier saildrives in less then a month when they hooked up to the marinas dock shore power . It completely ate all the anoids off the entire boat ,saildrives and propellers. It then completely ate holes in the housings of both sail drives. In his last video he explains why this happened and the system he's installing on the boat and the new boat he's about to purchase. It's a great series of videos and I thought you may be interested in the system he's installing so he never has to deal with this problem again with stray power doing over 13 thousand dollars of damage that he wasn't aware was happening until his sail drives started leaking oil from the holes the stray power in the water caused electrolysis to destroy his saildrives in a matter of a few weeks being hooked to bad shore power. As careful as you are I thought you may be interested in the system he's now installing to avoid this from happening again. As much as you and ava are planning to travel and most likely dock your boat in different marinas that may have the same issues it may interest you to learn about this .

Problem is Mas is the London yachties who put their yacht down there, then buy a house next to where their yacht is and use it twice a year !! None of them actually know how to sail and have to hire local skippers to sail their boat for them, sends the price for a mooring through the roof !! When you cross over to Ireland your price will at least half!! Hope you will visit the Clyde before your big trip south.

Hey y’all, i’ve been watching since you first got Athena. I loved the DIY aspect of the channel and your sheer determination. I am a fixer and tinkerer of things, sometimes, and seeing how you dealt with and approached problems really helped me change the way i deal with and approach problems.
Now, after all this time (and sanding and epoxy and fiberglass), Athena looks better than new, and it’s time to sail. We all knew it would happen at some point.
Just wanted it to be known that, at least for me, your apprehension and trepidation about slightly changing the content that you create is understandable, HOWEVER, i am absolutely here for it. I came for the DIY, but i’m staying for your adventures, and to be honest it was always about the adventure, now it’s just in a different more immersive way.
I’m so excited to see where you’ll go and the things y’all will do. I live in a landlocked state in the U.S., so sailing is really only a daydream for me, but i LOVE that you explain sailing best-practices and how-tos for people like me who don’t really know.
anyway, just wanted y’all to know i’m even more of a fan now than i used to be, thanks in part to the content but mostly to the creators.
    sorry for the long comment.

I loved this video. I really liked seeing how Copper Coat held up, the sailing & drone shots, as well as Fowey. This week was a really nice mix...you are transitioning from a DIY channel into a sailing channel nicely Mads & Ava 👍

Lol. The teaching the American English. As for Quay it's always been that way. There's a reason the English giggle over the "Simplified English" label with the US flag on web sites.

I love you 2 so much anode, annoyde.. we knew what you meant luv😁!
The reason copper coat doesn't work for some ppl they don't follow the instructions. I've watched ppl do it in bad weather for copper coating... An wonder why it didn't work. With copper coating the devil is in the details... My opinion from years of experience at boat yards...
Guy's you got this.. I really look forward to Sunday sail day!! ✌🏼💗😊❣️

At least you will feel all warm and fuzzy knowing your anchorage fees will be going to Prince Charles. The most expensive place to berth on the east coast of australia is worth it. Private marble bathroom complete with a setee and tv anyone?

Athena in some of these shots while docked looks just amazing. You've done such a good job. You should be really proud of the work you've done.

I like the way Ava pronounces anode as "anoid." It comes closer to the word "annoyed" which is what I would be if I had to change them very often while in the water. Thank you for the enjoyable video Mads and Ava.

Guest moorage is always expensive. Seattle and the Puget sound are right up there with the south of England. We do have state marine parks, and an annual pass of around $200 dollars gives boaters access to docks and mooring buoys scattered about the Sound.

You mentioned what happens to your sail drive if your anode is missing, if you want to see what happens to a sail drive check out youtubers "sailing dauntless" last couple of episodes. They had to replace their sail drives because they were crumbling from electrolysis.
