  • This upgrade is sooo worth it! We spent $100 on an electric winch for our dinghy davits and we wish we had bought it sooner. What a game changer! We also collect our new laptop after waiting for 15 months for it to be repaired, so Iain is a happy bunny!

      WOW! 😮 that has to be a record! Hope you are enjoying watching the adventure unfold. So pleased to have you following along. I might have to go back and watch them all again just to relive it with you. 😂

    Dyneema is a ridiculously strong material and will have no problem hauling your dinghy up at night it comes from the realms of Sci Fi by weight it is 15 times stronger than steel. Of course I am still waiting for proper hover boards ala Back to the Future.

    When Bri was still on the boat saying "Iain has gone to shore in search of WiFi..." .. in my head was Iain running across the water like a Lizard holding his laptop and shouting I NEED WiFi

    Did you ever get your water maker working?

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you should say that, we were just wondering if we should do another little review of it. At the end of the watermaker episode we did share the celebration of it running (might be worth going back to that one) but we might do a walk thru of it and how we run it now that there has been some time to get used to the system.

    Oh man this is awesome! Very smart. Anyway to share more into details the blocks you are using and the lines etc.?

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. So we have changed throngs around as we have gotten to know the system. Currently we are using 6mm dyneema with a cover for added up protection. The blocks are a mix of Lewmar blocks and nodus friction rings. Would love to convert everything to nodus as it reduces the moving parts but we aren’t quite there yet.

    Warning, I got that same wench from amazon, same remote. The remote jams in up or down. If it jams in the up, it will destroy your dinghy and/or davits. I had to run and pull the power off the wench to shut it down. On another day, the remote control box shorted and melted itself internally. The core wench is good everything attached to it sucks. Rig your OWN waterproof hard switch to a relay that apply the power the wench and use that. The remote is not safe.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny enough, we just finished building a custom, marine safe remote. The original hasn’t failed on us but the high current relays have. All is back up and running but good to know your experience. Thanks for the heads up

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers! Works a treat too. Wireless control, strong enough to life the dinghy even when it’s full of water and the “dead hang” lines mean the winch isn’t under load when we are sailing.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did indeed! The winch has been fantastic (if a bit loud) but with the new starter battery installed it has been running great. The old one was very much on its last legs as it was from Indioko previous life as a charter boat.

    Hey guys! Love your videos and content. Can I ask one small favour? When you edit these marvelous videos, can you turn down the cut away music a tad? I find I have to turn you up to listen to your voices then the music comes blaring in.. can be a bit.. jarring! Thanks :)

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ross. Thanks for the feedback. We have been working to get ontop of that balance. It’s been surprisingly challenging as the audio sounds different depending what device you watch on and things but we will most defiantly get there. Thanks for sticking with us as we learn how to edit better and capture the adventure every step of the way.

    Make sure you are running your motor when using the winch. I have one on my 4WD and the draw a lot of power.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, we discovered that pretty quick too. We are actually looking at setting up a selectable power source to drive it from our lithium house bank and solar on the odd occasions when that might be needed.

      @@RedSeas once you hook it up to your house bank you shouldn't even have to worry about it - that's where ours draws from and the lithiums don't even feel it.

    I’m just wondering how long that automotive winch will last in the corrosive environment of salt air/water. But good job you two. 👍🙂

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a really good question and we are waiting to see also. It’s rated as a fully waterproof winch designed to go on the underside of off-roading cars but salt air is often a more challenging environment. To be honest, it is a significant saving on the marine alternative and so could become somewhat disposable if it lasts long enough and we still save money.

    • @bayanicustodio3998

      My 2013 Leopard 44 (and all the other 2012-2018 ish 44 and 48 Leopards) used a Warn 1500 lb ATV winch - so I would think this one should be fine especially since they have it all nice and tucked away behind a cover.

      It’s not to everyone’s tastes but we do get quite a lot of nice feedback about our music choices too. Not all episodes are packed with tracks so perhaps you can check out another with less of a sound track to it.
