for me personally, I'm a big fan of robots that struggle specifically with feeling defective or something BECAUSE they aren't like normal machines and their feelings get in the way. so I suppose it's like the inverse of the trope you mentioned where they grow to love, I think it's interesting when they already feel too much and have to come to terms with that. it could be the autism, but feeling fundamentally wrong or malfunctional for existing the way you are [and that repression causing more problems in the long run than the inherent traits you hate yourself for] is a compelling trope to me!
I totally get and respect that! I still feel like it’s a popular type of story for a reason, and it’s really cool hearing why!!! Thank you so much for sharing your insight, and I definitely get it! I think the stories they’re telling are great, but maybe I’m just freaked out by like robots in general haha!
It's a great trope that really speaks to me as someone with physical and mental disabilities. I have spent over 20 years fighting my genetic defects and trying to fix myself and only recently decided to do body neutrality and I have been so much more calmer and happier just accepting my horrid cards in life and knowing I can't fix it but hey- at least I ain't dying and I get a funny sense of humor.
4:47 Imagine your kid pops out of the womb in the most ridiculous clothing item. Like, imagine your kid comes out wearing a mascot costume or something.
The one bed trope is silly cause not everyone is going to jump into a romance. I had to do that once when I was in highschool. Both me and a strange guy I never met had stomach flus and needed to lay down and wait for our families to get us from school. I was smelly (having gotten out of P.E) and am Asexual and was dating at the time, so me and him just laid there and told each other jokes to try to feel better and get our minds off the pain. We became acquaintances for the remainder of the year, making jokes and saying hi whenever we ran into each other.
I love and respect your takes! Love a good hot takes vid, especially about fanfic. I can't help but love an "only one bed" situation but that may just be a remnant of how often I read it as a kid. I totally agree that it works best in a fake dating situation. But I do also really like it outside of that too! I don't like when they lead to a lusty or smutty situation cause I also find that unrealistic. But more so the timidness of closeness to a crush taken to the extreme.
Thank you so much! For the "only one bed trope," I don't deeply dislike it or anything, but I personally don't find myself clicking on stories if that is the only/primary point of the story. If it's worked along with other story elements, I can totally get into it! Again, it's one of my close friend's favorite type of fic, so I totally respect it! Haha
Considering even the babies hair can literally cause friction burns diring birth, clothing is an absolutely nightmare. Just give them something on thier skin if gou want it to be from birth, i beg of you
Like please! I usually try to suspend disbelief a bit with fanfiction aus, but this one was just too visceral. It filled me with so many questions, I couldn't see past it! I'm sure they were just trying to make their own unique world, but as a BIG soulmate au enjoyer, sometimes, you don't need to reinvent to wheel. I am not sure if being born with magical clothing items added anything to the story that a magical birthmark couldn't. I support trying new things and building cool worlds, but the horror of these logistics blinded me from the story.
