I agree wholeheartedly. A well regulated Militia being necessary to a free State, The Right of "The People" to keep and bear Arms, shall NOT be infringed. The first Clause does not in anyway nullify the second clause, since The People are The Militia, hence why The People need to be Armed, so They can serve in The Militia.

Here is the entire quote by Mason. “I ask, Who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers. But I cannot say who will be the militia of the future day. If that paper on the table gets no alteration, the militia of the future day may not consist of all classes, high and low, and rich and poor; but they may be confined to the lower and middle classes of the people, granting exclusion to the higher classes of the people.” “Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia. […] This was a most iniquitous project. Why should we not provide against the danger of having our militia, our real and natural armed strength, destroyed? The general government ought, at the same time, to have some such power. But we need not give them power to abolish our militia. If they neglect to arm them, and prescribe proper discipline, they will be of no use. I am not acquainted with the military profession. I beg to be excused for any errors I may commit with respect to it. But I stand on the general principles of freedom, whereon I dare to meet any one. I wish that, in case the general government should neglect to arm and discipline the militia, there should be an express declaration that the state governments might arm and discipline them. Hollywood still tried to divide the issue by using this comedy show. They tried to show that the constitution was only talking about a regulated militia of men and not the people at large as a whole having the right to own a gun. They literally tried to make it a point of contention in this show.
For all the people that want to focus on "a well regulated militia" when the founders penned that line they were succeeding from the rule of Britain and made it clear that it was each person's right and their obligation as Americans to keep and bear arms so that the PEOPLE were the ones in control of the destiny of the country, not the government or any potential foreign ruler. Militia refers to the minute men and others who would take up arms against the tyrannical oppression of the ruling class of Britain. Having this unalienable right bestowed upon EVERY citizen of the country would forever guarantee that the true power of the country would forever remain in the hands of the people. Look into our history understand who the founders were and what they were fleeing when they formed this new world. Understand what they knew and what they were ensuring by providing these rights to the people. Us, the people.
right, and i feel the whole thing is out-dated and obsolete. It might have been right in those days, but we are not too worried about england these days...the threat now is the crazy people with automatic guns.....time to change that right, or ammend it...I am sure the founding fathers would agree too.
except...not really at all. The folks who said "all men are created equal" owned slaves, so they didn't want ALL people to have rights, just certain people. And of course the Second Amendment doesn't mention ALL men, nor women. Does that mean women can't be armed? If we agree there's wiggle room in that simple problem, then there's wiggle room everywhere--what is labeled a "slippery slope". As far as the founders coming from secession, no, they were coming from a prior form of government--the Articles of Confederation. You learned about this in school--america's first government after the war was the Continental Congress, our first president was Samuel Huntington of Scotland CT, and this decentralized government ran into a problem. the problem was it couldn't raise funds for the Continental Army, which was a standing army that became the Legion of United States (so the founding fathers didn't fear a standing army at all, but they had little respect for militias--Thomas Paine spoke of the winter and summer soldiers, a reference to militiamen who abandoned Washington nightly during Valley Forge so only the Continental Army remained) to fight against Shay's Rebellion. what was Shay's Rebellion? It was armed vets in MA rising up with their own militia, and Samuel Adams declared these (not well regulated) militiamen should be jailed. the Founding Fathers met in the nation's capital (Philadelphia PA) charged with upgrading the Articles of Confederation. Instead the 1% threw out the government and formed a new one with a general as president (in some nations, we label this a coup) and wrote the Federal papers under psuedonyms to convince the 13 former colonies to accept the change. so what was a militia even for if there was a standing army in existance? Alexander Hamilton explains it in Fed # 29. The states didn't have a state police force nor SWAT team to handle slave uprisings, militia groups, native american attacks (folks still remembered King Phillip's War) and so the militia filled the gap. The Second Amendment mentions the security of a free state, and that meant "state", not national government. The Founding Fathers, like the wealthy of today, certainly didn't want the hoi polloi to take charge of things ! why do you think there is an electoral college to dilute the will of the majority? why did James Madison warn about the threat of the minority voice taking power ? Why did Thomas Jefferson become the type of leader he said should water the tree of Liberty once he became president? The Second Amendment clearly states a well regulated militia is necessary for a state's security and should not be infringed--the Constitution was defining what was government power and what was state power. to that end, guns are needed for the milita--but only a well-regulated one. if we ever think property owners want armed folks running around DC on Jan 6 or in the streets of Fergeson MI then we truly don't understand the Founding Fathers, who didn't agree well even with each other. But then, some love the Fed bank and fiat currency in their pocket--another creation of the FF to protect their wealth but no boon to the people. finally, the 1903 Militia Act clearly defines what constitutes a well regulated militia--the National Guard. According to the Constitution, so long as a law from Congress is not challenged by the Supreme Court, that law is constitutionally valid, and so the 1903 Militia Act clearly defines who is the militia (and the National Guard tends to lock up their weapons in an armory, not let soldiers take 'em home). that's why the Second Amendment was always a state right until 2008 when a black man entered the white house (coincidence) and Ronald Wilson Reagan could take the Milford Act from a Republican, and sign it into law--a law saying the people of CA couldn't carry their guns in public without a permit. The NRA backed this law, since it was aimed at Black Panthers. Guv Reagan would of course become President Reagan, a Republican most don't associate with gun-grabbing. then again, most Republicans didn't say boo when Trump took away their bumpstocks--guess its only when Democrats do something, its wrong :) but i digress.
Academy Reward was one. They wrote Archie as a blunder head, but there was truth mixed in there too. Taking the moral high road does not equal Justice or Sainthood. Like the Catholic Priests condemnation of LGBTQ ➕ yet buggering young Preteen Boys.
What the Meathead doesn't know, and probably Rob Reiner too, is that a well regulated militia is not the military, but is made of up of private citizens. Citizens who own guns.
The "well-regulated militia" identified in the 2nd Amendment is we the people. The reason the 2nd Amendment was written so was to insure that every citizen of the United States had the means by which they could take up arms against a tyrannical government if need be. Nobody wants to talk about that, but in the simplest form that was the reason. The last part about "shall not be infringed" was to keep it that way. Note that the phrase "shall not be infringed" is contained in none of the other amendments to the Constitution and for a reason. So in essence you are correct.
It never states "Citizens", it says "the people" and the distinction is important and why immigration, legal or otherwise, is a path to legal corruption; by way of those with agendas...
I think it’s so funny how Archie was supposed to portray the white conservative as ignorant and not intelligent, however the shit he says, while maybe not the best wordings or examples, is still spot on accurate.
No doubt. I grew up with this, Barney Miller, Jeffersons, etc. Great great shows that wouldn't fly nowadays. Especially though, in Barney Miller, the timeless subjects, political, violence, unexplained esoteric subjects that Sgt Dietrich was famous for stumping everybody with. I own these, still watch them and I love them.
Dietrich was priceless!. I love the episode where they confiscate a college students project that he claimed was a prototype nuclear bomb. No one at the precinct believed him. Then Dietrich strolls in and says " where did you get the nuclear bomb"?
I think the writers of this skit included wording, thoughts and ideas from both sides of the issue, like they were showing an un-biased opinion. Too bad our current media cannot do the same.
This... Though Archie was the butt of the joke he wasn't overly portrayed as ignorant, they allowed for both left and right wing positions to be held and without overtly condemning either side. Just allowed the audience to choose how they wanted to see each character. If anything it showed that political bias is always going to be within any modern society and that it's always best to discuss these issues without fear of reprisal.
You can't fire a gun on an airplane with a pressurized cabin. The bullet, even if it hit it's ( human hijacker ) target would more than likely go straight through the person and through the hull of the plane - causing immediate explosive decompression - killing everyone on board. Now do you UNDERSTAND why firearms are NOT allowed on planes ? If a law enforcement officer IS allowed to carry their firearm onto a plane it's a COURTESY extended to them because thet have been highly trained an part of that training is DO NOT ever fire your gun inside the cabin of the airplane.
@@MC-yy2bx uh yeah, definitely understand the physics involved in shooting a gun in a plane, but Archie was making a nonsensical statement for entertainment purposes obviously. and again with the sudden depressurization which sucked a woman out of the window a few years ago, it doesn't mean the plane explodes as that's why there are oxygen masks that drop in that event. it's still funny from Archie's skewed view....
@todd long Really? More than 365? Would you feel better if there were 365 mass stabbings? How about 365 pipes bomb blasts? I take it u don't live here, so I forgive you for you know not. We are over worked, taxed, fined, & imprisoned. We are underpaid, not represented, and under cared for in terms of Healthcare & mental Healthcare This has taken place because our grandparents, parents, and we ourselves have allowed our gov to chip away at or rights & become non fearing tyrants. The more rights they take away, the more tyrannical they become. There's a direct correlation there. I've never been shot, but its not fun hearing about people being shot, or stabbed, or thrown out a window. But as long as that's happening and even if it weren't, it's nice to know I have the right to defend myself. Btw- one rarely hears about the 365+ times when armed citizens stop violent criminals. Not because it doesn't happen, but because it rarely makes local news & never makes national or world news because it doesn't fit the narrative
@todd long Take it easy there Mr. Long. No need for all the capitals, or maybe there is. I won't deny there are fools here who think we are number one,, but a lot of those fools are good people who believe the propogamda that we are helping people around the world. They are honest people who want what's best for humanity & they make the mistake of believing our government is also honest & wants the best for humanity. Those people aren't as common as the propoganda you buy would have you believe though. More & more people are waking up to the realities that we are behind the rest of the industrial world as far as most stats. We are number one at a lot of things like prison population. If that paper on the table gets no alteration, the militia of the future day may not consist of all classes, high and low, and rich and poor; but they may be confined to the lower and middle classes of the people, granting exclusion to the higher classes of the people.”
“Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia.

So we'll said! Those are the facts!
Truth right there!!! The problem is, to many people don’t know & don’t care about our history!
right, and i feel the whole thing is out-dated and obsolete.

You just pass out the pistols at the beginning of the flight, and pick them up again at the end. No more skyjackings. Case closed.
pure Archie gold right there....
Archie was way ahead of his time.
That’s Genius, and likely a few right wingers on the plane that could hit the target and save the day too.
@@MC-yy2bx uh yeah, definitely understand the physics involved in shooting a gun in a plane, but Archie was making a nonsensical statement for entertainment purposes obviously. and again with the sudden depressurization which sucked a woman out of the window a few years ago, it doesn't mean the plane explodes as that's why there are oxygen masks that drop in that event. it's still funny from Archie's skewed view....
back when meathead was a young fool instead of an old fool .
No, Archie is the moron meathead and Mike is right!
@todd long
Really?
More than 365?
Would you feel better if there were 365 mass stabbings?
How about 365 pipes bomb blasts?
I take it u don't live here, so I forgive you for you know not.
We are over worked, taxed, fined, & imprisoned.
We are underpaid, not represented, and under cared for in terms of Healthcare & mental Healthcare
This has taken place because our grandparents, parents, and we ourselves have allowed our gov to chip away at or rights & become non fearing tyrants.
@todd long
Take it easy there Mr.
Far as I'm concerned that's something we need to complain about.
Imo we were once a great nation. That was when our rights were upheld.
I don't know why so many people want to live here, wxcept that the buy propoganda that there is an American dream and that the grass is greener.
We have our share of fools, but we aren't unique in that.
@todd long
I agree with you there too.
Archie was a fool about many things, but he sure hit the nail on the head about other things.
Controversial things too.
Sometimes politicaly incorrect is means correct.
We are backassward about many things today. Many things.
I have little hope fore our future.
There is too much greed & corruption at the top.
We have created a society were psychopaths flourish LITTERALY!
We the citizens are caught in the middle of this shitsunami!
We have no justice system, no way to keep politicians in check.
I don't blame other people for hating us.
Sorry for complaining, but there is a lot to complain about.
It's the reality I live in my friend.
Peace to you & yours!
Yes, and we all know there's no fool like an old FOOL!!
Great show. Today all the comments stated on this show would offend the Democrats.
Sounds good to me.....
".........Duke Wayne...Clint Westwood, buddy!" 😂😂 I ❤ Archie
