Update! I saw it for a second time and I’m happy to say I enjoyed it more upon rewatch! My feelings are similar overall, but some of my gripes didn’t bother me as much.
Word, Def a good time, if not for Fury Road I think we would've dug it more. And Demortis will be probably be Villain of the year, he really saved the movie.
What’s the godly praise for Fury Road? I liked Fury Road but the script is weak and very basic. Chase. Chase. Chase. End. Furiosa is far superior in storytelling and the action is really good as well. Furiosa easily is the better film
Nice review Anthony! I have similar thoughts to you on this one and was generally underwhelmed when watching it last week. I agree the narrative wasn’t as engaging as it should have been and the CGI was definitely off putting throughout. Definitely a lot to praise like some of the performances particularly Chris Hemsworth, and some of the action, but certainly didn’t have to be 2hr 28 mins! a lot of the 2nd half for me was too many stern faces and bland interactions. I agree the romance was pretty forced and fell flat. The first hour I did really enjoy but it started to drag after that and yeah the narrative and world wasn’t that interesting here for me. An average film that could have been more and a disappointing return to the universe overall. Great to hear your thoughts Anthony and hope you are doing well
As of this comment, I’ve only saw Fury Road back in 2013/2014 and my taste in film and appreciation has changed. I need to rewatch it but back then, I didn’t think it was a fantastic movie / think it’s overhyped. However maybe on a rewatch ideally before this one I may change my mind 🙂 I have noticed quite a bit CGI in the trailer for this which I don’t understand why as the last one did seem very practical effects heavy
I haven’t seen this yet but the trailer looked awesome and I love Anya Taylor Joy. Pity it wasn’t as good as Fury rd for you but it still sounds like a decent watch 🙂
Nice review! Mannnn when I went through this series - I gotta say - Fury Road is incredibly entertaining and shocking at times. Great visuals but it definitely prefers action over story. Road Warrior is objectionally the best of the series. Has time to breathe and develop characters as well as has moments of craziness that feel similar to Fury Road. I'm curious on this movie though
Road Warrior is a close second for me. I think Fury Road tells such a cool story within its endless action. I’ll take Fury Road over Road Warrior anyday. Don’t get me wrong though, this is by no means a bad film.
Curious about Furiosa, but so far Road Warrior is my favorite. With Mad Max 1 being 2nd. Going to see next Saturday in a Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, Furiosa marathon.
It doesn't need to be just like fury road it just needs to be a good watch and I feel like this movies succeeds in that judging from most of the positive reviews I've seen
@@alexhein6386 nobody said it needed to be like Fury Road. I haven’t even seen the movie. He still praises the movie in his review. Nobody said the movie was bad. But considering how it’s about one of the main characters from FURY ROAD, and it’s a prequel to FURY ROAD, and it alludes to Fury Road at the end……it’s kinda hard not to relate it to the movie that came before it. There’s nothing immature about comparing one movie to another. Especially if you have valid points and you do it respectfully.
I'm with you on almost all of your points. Saw it last night and was disappointed. This movie thinks it is more epic than it is. Paper thin plot and WAY too long. Also drags in parts which is something you never expect from a Mad Max film. Like you said the acting is fine but there's not much here, the love is forced and could've/should've been dropped, and the ending just kind of peters out. Not bad by any means. In fact it is exceptionally well made technically. Just could've used some tightening. Edit to add: Also could feel the air of disappointment from my packed theater as we were walking out so it is not just us.
Yes! I forgot to mention the same thing. You could feel the lack of excitement in my audience, too. Thanks for watching! I’m glad I’m not alone in my thoughts!
Yea, i attended a packed Imax advanced screening. Maybe 5-10 people clapped when it ended. And a lot of these people were dressed up and really into the franchise. Just weird seeing all of these glowing review videos when that wasn't mine or apparently your experience.
@@davidthieroff9452 I meant to mention it here, but I’ve also seen a lot of my movie review peers giving it high praise and great scores on Letterboxd. I hoped to join them, but I just can’t sing its praises as highly as Fury Road.
Yikes after watching ur review and Rashad video lol I’m little nervous for this film. I’ve never seen any of the previous films so I’ll be able to watch as a pure movie
You haven’t? Then I wouldn’t necessarily suggest this as a starting point, bro. At least watch Fury Road. Cause this one is made with the mentality that you’ve at least seen the last one.
I never thought I would say this but even though Fury Road is a great action movie, I found Furiosa a little better. Fury Road has incredible scenes, it is very entertaining, but in terms of the story it is empty, it is basically a very long chase. Furiosa is less spectacular but better in everything else.
Hey! Totally respect your take. While I can see what you’re saying, I honestly felt like Fury Road had a more compelling narrative. Sure, Furiosa covers more story, but I didn’t care as much. Whereas I was super invested in the story of getting Joe’s “wives” to the green place. The promise that if they keep running, they’ll find a safe place. I found that adventure to be substantially more fun, but I totally appreciate your outlook.

If you do see it, come back and lmk what you thought!
@@AnthonyAPerez I hope to see in Imax, but not out here yet. I'll try and come back.
Awesome you enjoyed it Perez. I’ve seen them all except the 1st recently and I agree Fury Road is the best out of the 4 I’ve seen.
Wow bro! You broke this film down perfect! Excellent review fam.
Thanks brotha!!!
Overlong bookends, with a fantastic 20 minute set piece in the middle
