    Depends on the speed employed.
    Done slowly 5x5 is a good goal, as deep ROM as you can control.
    Weights could be included after you are able to go ALL the way down and up, 10s eccentric and 10s concentric for 5x5.

    Done 3x5, feel like i've been squatting with cast iron... What the hell man, this is hard work and just using my bodyweight! :D
    I feel there will be some sick gains without going to the gym. Thanks a lot for this.

    These should be called "the Matrix Squats"

  • @FitnessFAQs
    @FitnessFAQs  12 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Bodyweight = Upper body.
    Weighted Squats/RDL's and infrequent olympic lifting = Lower Body.
    The key is time, I've been doing this for close to 4 years consistently now.

    Hey Daniel,i found that if you place your heels on something elevated about 10 centimeters from the ground you will have almost no demage to knees,better stability and you will target much more your quads.I hope you read this and try it!Keep going!

      Correct. That is the right way to perform sissy squats. Not trying to balance on toes.

      idk about that, the effect is the same, leaning forward like that and squatting with the weight on the front of the foot still puts pressure on the knees, regardless if u support ur heel

    The name comes from Sisyphus (or however you spell it). He was a King in Greek mythology who did something to piss off the Gods, so they sent him to Hades, where he had to push a huge boulder up a hill every day, resulting in huge legs. Can't remember the exact story, but that's the gist of it.

    Really wanted to love this exercise because I´m all into old school. But man my knees hurt just after 5 reps, no wonder some consider these stupid and dangerous. Barbell hack squat is quite similar and I´ve experienced no pain whatsoever even with 120+ kg.

    Interesting... I've been doing them with my feet fully on the floor, but I've only done a few sets before checking online for videos on proper form. I was also going faster as well.
    Doing them this way should also stop the slight headache I got from doing two sets back to back of 30 and 35 reps with feet fully on the ground, as my head was going quite far back and likely the blood going back and forth didn't agree with me.

    Nice! I saw that exercise as a part of meniscus recovery program, though I also heard that that workout isn't very good for anterior cruciate ligaments, since it isn't natural movement for knees to go that way. Who to trust? xD

    Jeff from AthleanX, one of the top sports physiotherapist in the US and someone who works with top level athletes says that the Sissy squat is one of the worst exercises you can do, these basically destroy your knees, it would be wise to listen to him.

      ***** Here, let me fix that for you:
      "He is saying that the most efficient exercises are bad for you for the risk of injury from bad from. This is wrong because every exercise is dangerous if its made with bad form"
      You might convince more people if you don't call them (or a person they are taking their argument from) an asshole first.

      Thats because they don't train their knees to withstand the stress of their sport/workout and/or the tendons, and surrounding muscle. An adequate intake of necessary vitamins and minerals play a role as well as stretching.
