At least you have them in your video description, so take this as a more general hint for improvement. 1) At the section about weight you say “this one is two grams heavier” but the numbers on screen tell a completely different story. You wrote the Fuji weighs 579g and the Lumix 658g, both body only. Looking up manufacturer numbers (usually with battery included and not like here body only) this claim wouldn't be true either way. 2) Using “AF points” as a category to give check points for, that are equal in weight to other features, seems off to me nowadays. As we've seen in the past, the number of points is not correlating to the performance at all, and this shows when you give both of them a point for their good AF just a moment later. I'd have left this away and only given it as an info, not as its own category - at least it didn't affect a tally at the end. This is less of a mistake, but something I feel is weird. 3) During your AF test, you ended it with “both are better than any manual focus puller could ever do it”. While this is likely true for most, it's a snarky comment I feel that isn't true. Looking at the AF test, it's obvious that your subject wasn't particularly fast moving - which is fine and apples to apples, but also less what tracking often has to deliver. Your choice of test is valid, but I'd love to see some head turning and covering the face as those things happen and are becoming more and more crucial during work. 4) During the external video part, you say the Fuji gives “8K up to 60 frames” while your text shows 8K at 30. This is not the only time your numbers don't match what you said, and I'd either retake the scene with the right info or put a disclaimer on the screen, which of the two is not correct. It's very confusing getting mixed info multiple times throughout the whole video. 5) Same as 2) but for the Trash button. It doesn't really validate an own check mark situation for me - it's not a rateable feature to give a point to like your very good ISO test, but more of thing to be informed about. Maybe rethink the check-mark system and rather make it a "likes & dislikes" thing? 6) Lastly: It would have been nice to see your pre-amp claim be supported by test material. Are you sure that you removed noise reduction on Panasonic? Cause there is no noise anywhere and it seems that your subject has the waxy effect of noise reduction. If the noise reduction is off, well it blows away even the monsters of low light which are Sony's cameras a7IV. I would go with XH2S because 40 Mp are physically too much for the APS-C sensor and it makes sense that XT5 and XH2 are worse in noise and black recovery against Xh2s xt4 even xt2 has better noise performance.
The Fuji's samples are better in terms of detail resolution. Panasonic oversharpens the image, so there is a lot of "fake detail". In the Hybrid Shooter video quality comparison you can see that X H2 4k image has much more detail that S5ii. As for ISO test, I agree with those who say that Panasonic uses aggressive noise reduction. On ISO 1600 sample we can see that Fuji has much more detail, and the grain looks natural. Lumix's image is too soft. The review is excellent, but there is an obvious difference between what we see and what we hear. I am myself prone to full frame hysteria, but I have to admit that APS-C is almost there in low light and it excells in video due to wider depth of field and higher resolution.
Yes, unfortunately, the review is totally flawed. I also watched the Hybrid Shooter's review. S5ii isn't that much better than the XH2. Detail was better on the XH2. Noise was apparent on both. In this review, you couldn't even see a SINGLE noise on the S5ii!
Very good review of both systems. I am a big fan of both the Panasonic S system and the FX system. Where I think these systems differ is where the final audience is. The X-H2 is currently Fujifilm's top combination photography/video shooting camera, with the X-H-2s being slightly more geared to video but still very capable for photography and the X-T5 again being very similar to the X-H2 but for those wanting a more traditional feel or have smaller hands. Below that though you have the a variety of camera including the X-S10, which are smaller, cheaper and easier to carry around. With the Panasonic, you have the opposite, the S5 II is on the low end of the Panasonic line up (in theory) and at some point Panasonic will release the S1mk2 and maybe the S1h mk2, which are bigger. Personally, if I were coming into a system, I would say the Fujifilm system is more fun but as a professional, just for the ability to upgrade to the S1mk2 when it is released I would probably look at the Panasonic (I can feel my Fujifilm friends are going to burn a effigy of me).
Michael: I am a non-professional H2 owner, but I don't pile up the stake, I second our opinion. And I liked all of the Panasonic footage in the video better than the Fuji's. So I regard the Panasonic as the clear winner! The point is - as you already mentioned - fun of use of the Fuji system. And the chance of reusing your lenses, of course. :)
I missed which lens each camera used, but the Fuji didn't seem to resolve quite up to the resolution of the sensor - maybe when they designed the lens, they didn't think you'd get a 40MP APS-C sensor..
Did you draw this conclusion based on watching a TH-cam video on you computer screen ? There are indeed some older FUJI lenses which don't allow the full 40 mp resolution, other their lenses do. But you need a huge print to see it. Computer screen resolution is just too small for it.
@@sashbar Yes based on how soft the Fuji looked compared to the Panasonic I was just wondering if it could be a reason. They were both on the screen right next to each other, and of course I watched it in 4K full screen on a proper large monitor. Not saying that is necessarily it of course, just a possibility..
Thanks for these amazing and professional (not youtuber like) reviews. One question: have you tried the differences in AF in Sigma 24-70 2.8 and Pana S 24-70 2.8? I'd like to know if the AF tracking is better with Pana lens or similar.. thank you!
Pleeeaaase, can you show us how to shoot cooking videos? How to place the softbox to film the cooking process ( without being seen myself in the video) , the type of camera to use , and editing software 😊
Silkypix very obviously applied noise reduction to the Lumix files. An easy solution would be to have fun both the cameras files through Silkypix as they are both compatible. Then we would have gotten a more apples to apples comparison.
I’m having a hard time choosing between the two. I’m a big fan of Fuji but the video options on the S5 are so good and the extra low light capabilities of full frame. Fuji colours are amazing though and so are the film sims. Plus all the lens adapters I own. May never decide 😂
For an APSC to compete with a full frame it has to offer a lot more features. That's what Fuji is trying to do. However you can never copy the physics of the FF with an APSC.
Why is nobody talking about that ISO comparison? It's really obvious that the Panasonic has a lot of noise reduction applied. It's all smudged out, you can see that clearly.
Considering moving from Fuji.. unfortunately invested in lots of good glass. Never been happy with the fuji, images look what I call crunchy. Been able to overcome somewhat with LR but looking for natural tones as well; to my eye fuji fails in this area. Thanks for the great comparison.
Loved this video!! I've been going back and forth on which to save up for and after this I'm leaning towards the X-H2. Thanks for doing such a detailed comparison :)(:
To me FUJI is a winner due to the FUJI lenses, their lenses are second to none, never mind APS-C lenses are considerably smaller and lighter. Comparing colors in a TH-cam video is nonsense. FUJI is most famous for their amazing JPEG colors. As for RAW it's all about processing.
I chose Fuji XH2s and XH2 for thier lenses, quality and size of the new lens lineup makes the system a win win for me and my work. ditched my Sony gear and huge GM glass. I did have the original Lumix S1 and loved the camera but AF was found wanting so it did not stay long
@@TheSlantedLens good to hear they finally sorted the AF, sad though that they didn't get it right in the far superior S1 and S1R, many of us lost faith after that and went elsewhere. Fuji gives all i need for now, lens selection is great, it may not have as clean high ISO but its very very usable and better than many flagship cameras used over the past 10 years. some testers just close the blinds and shoot in piss poor light, mucky light where most would not dream of shooting and if that situation arises we would use A flash or LED light... quality of quantity and give a degree of directionality to the light and the fuji holds its own and happy to push it to 6400. lens selection and increase DOF of APSC allows a little more to play with. I would of been interested in the S5ll if they gave it a better evf but then I lost a little trust in Panasonic given their very slow lens rollout and arrogance of the DFD af system debacle
Thank you for the video, it was fun to watch. I own an Fuji xt30 ii and the new Panasonic S5 ii, so I know both systems. What I am missing in the most comparisons thees days are comparisons of photograhic features. There are many creators, that are more interested into that. For example has the Fuji a better exposure bracketing feature for HDRI creators. Or the Panasonic has more photographic formats to chose from like the X-pan 65:24 format. I could go on and on… For me I stoped to invest into Fuji lenses as they are just for Fuji. If you want to switch the system in the future, you have to sell all your gear. Therefore I prefere to buy manual full frame lenses, that I can adapt to all my gear, included fuji. Or I buy Sigma L-mount lenses for AF.
@ELIE HOBEIKA X-H2s comes in just a few hundred away. If you compare the S5II X, they're basically the same price. If I'm upgrading cameras that's a big decision and a couple hundred dollars difference isn't going to turn me away if it's the right camera.
@@bottledwaterprod I’m not justifying every decision a person needs to make. I was just stating that they chose these two cameras because they’re around the same price point, it’s just the criteria they chose to pick the two cameras.
I find it weird that you are saying its a good thing that a 40 mp sensor is holding its own against a 24 mp sensor, while still losing to it pretty clearly. Thats just an all around bad thing lol.
@@TheSlantedLens I'm not so sure about that. It still did very noticably worse, so we can say it was around an effective 18-20 MP. Is a 40 MP image being about 45% of its intended resoluition really that good? The price of the cameras are the same, so if there is no resolution advantage, its just a dreadful loss given the other benefits of full frame. I've seen plenty of 8k cinema camera footage that is an APSC crop (Ursa 12k even), so I dont expect aspc to automatically get wrecked by a full frame that's half the res.
Great review and comparison. There are too many cameras and little to no innovation. I'll wait for the global shutter and proper menus and connection apps
I saw for any system go for top tier. Fuji XH2 is their top GOAT and for lumix it’s s1H and they both need autofocus and uncropped video updates. Sony is A1 - the one camera to rule them all. Canon R5 is no slouch either - it’s a force to reckon with. R5 mark ii should be around the corner. Well depends on how wide your streets are. In some neighborhoods it can get awfully wide. Absolute upgrade for canon would be full HDMI and canon Clog 2 in their cinema cameras and only the log options like a Sony. Nikon Z9 is massive but has everything if you lift weights and have great biceps or absolutely need the 58 0.95 manual beast of a lens. That’s undone. 😂
That’s for Fuji folks. I still have a fancy for retro dials. I drink coffee from hipsters that refuse to serve Starbucks customers who only know grande and tall. I am that guy. Jokes 😂
@@bespokecustomstudio1565 Perhaps. Until May, that is; when the S5 II X will be released. The camera wars are in full effect now; a big win for us all.
Very good test, Jay. As always, thorough and balanced. I’ve been using Fuji as a professional photographer for a number of years, but decided to go back to full frame (next to the Hasselblad). It just didn’t cut it and when you run into reliability issues, it’s an obvious choice. I’ve tried the X-H2 two months ago (our Fuji rep is a really nice guy), but I wasn’t impressed by the IQ. In fact, I compared it with an older X-T3, I still have here and I much preferred the 26MP images. Anything above ISO800, the X-T3 was cleaner. On the H2 details looked more ‘artificial’ which is probably the result of some enthousiastic raw processing. Your test shows that the IQ of a well-balanced 24MP full-frame is hard to beat at this price point. Lumix has always made excellent cameras and lenses, and now with the S5II and the new AF system, it’s a great option. By the way, the S1-range always had two AWB modes: normal and cool, whereby ‘cool’ was the more neutral one. I’m not sure whether the S5II has those options too, and if so, which ones you used?
you are so experienced photographer that some of these "mistakes" you made made me think you are biased. You can not talk about depth of field and background blur using both on f2.8. if you put that 33mm lens you used at 1.4 and that panasonic 50mm at f1.8 you will get pretty much the same background blur and the same depth of field for the same amount of money, and maybe even better lens quality for the fuji. Second, to spend so much time talking about colours, when the biggest factor is white balance, you can get both of these cameras to look the same sooc and edited. Sharpness test was interesting tho, did not expect s5 ii with half of mp to look so sharp. as for video, most of videographers use 4k 60fps most of the time. commercial, wedding, and most of things. that is what needs to be tested. dynamic range too.... maybe these comparisons are great for people not knowing anything about cameras, but this is not very good comparison.
What lens?! What film simulation of the Fuji?! This is totally the opposite of the "Hybrid Shooter's" review. The XH2 blows away the S5ii in the details. And the ISO noise? The Lumix is just 1 stop cleaner. Watch his review. This is OBVIOUSLY FLAWED.
Amazing review you saved me rental cost on both cameras. For my own opinion I’m a Canon user since 1989 . But lately I’m not really happy with Canon that limit only to use RF lenses, so one reason or another I’m looking at the S5 II With 85 1.8 50 1.8 and 18 1.8 Prime lenses all this will cost me $ 1200 more then one Canon RF 85 or 50 and this lenses are excellent no questions on that department BUT ARE HEAVY. This were lumix as the advantage and after I saw the low light and iso test I will now own that system just because I can’t have any smaller 1.4 L lenses for my system that is what I need small prime. Last I will love for you to have use the 50 mm 1.4 from LUMIX because the canon 1.2 is a really a top prime , but I was impressed how well that 1.8 standard 50 did really amazing. I think Canon is making big mistake on not allowing 3 party lenses…. Also with the S5 the 3/2 crop on video for instagram is big deal to me. Hopefully I will see you at WPPI great work glad you doing great 😊
Not even mentioned what lenses been used, normally Fuji colours much warmer than that unless you purposely set wrong colour profile just to look llike Fuji is doing worse
I feel like some of the test footage with Anaya was switched around? In some the Panasonic has the magenta cast while the Fuji has the green cast, in others it seems switched around?

Fuji X-H2 because of better features as shoulder display, better EVF etc.. The Pana has only the sensor and has no high end features. A camera for beginners in FF.
Lol. S5ii smokes it in every category. Best ibis, best AF, also full frame, iso performance, jpegs. Colors are subjective. VLog is one of the best in the game. As an xt4 owner I can say that pana glass and native options is also superior. I would never use Fuji in a professional environment, but I would also never use s5ii in the same. It could be that Silkypix is reducing noise. Now that we can use Adobe to process the S5 II images we can compare them and let you know what we find.
a lot of sharpening and NR have been added by Panasonic on the S5ii with the regular profiles in video, big difference with my S1.
Lots of good things to consider. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
That Panasonic lens seemed to be a bit sharper.
Thanks for these amazing and professional (not youtuber like) reviews. One question: have you tried the differences in AF in Sigma 24-70 2.8 and Pana S 24-70 2.8? I'd like to know if the AF tracking is better with Pana lens or similar.. thank you!
With a S5ii body :)
We haven't tried it with the Sigma lens. If you try it out let us know how you like it!
@@TheSlantedLens thanks you for your kind reply!
Pleeeaaase, can you show us how to shoot cooking videos? How to place the softbox to film the cooking process ( without being seen myself in the video) , the type of camera to use , and editing software 😊
That is a great idea. We will see what we can do.
crazy how the panasonic sensor is half the resolution and yet has so much more detail
Silkypix very obviously applied noise reduction to the Lumix files. An easy solution would be to have fun both the cameras files through Silkypix as they are both compatible. Then we would have gotten a more apples to apples comparison.
Good point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I’m having a hard time choosing between the two. I’m a big fan of Fuji but the video options on the S5 are so good and the extra low light capabilities of full frame. Fuji colours are amazing though and so are the film sims. Plus all the lens adapters I own. May never decide 😂
That is a hard decision. Good luck with making your choice!
For an APSC to compete with a full frame it has to offer a lot more features. That's what Fuji is trying to do. However you can never copy the physics of the FF with an APSC.
Yes, full frame is great. Yet the APS-C is a great choice for some people.
@Patrick Huynh you have a small one? Small sensor?
@Patrick Huynh Ha, Ha, Ha! Great point. Best part no CF Express Cards. Save lots of ca$h!😎😎
Why is nobody talking about that ISO comparison? It's really obvious that the Panasonic has a lot of noise reduction applied. It's all smudged out, you can see that clearly.
We did not add noise reduction.
Considering moving from Fuji.. unfortunately invested in lots of good glass. Never been happy with the fuji, images look what I call crunchy. Been able to overcome somewhat with LR but looking for natural tones as well; to my eye fuji fails in this area. Thanks for the great comparison.
You are welcome. Thanks for sharing your experience with Fuji.
Loved this video!! I've been going back and forth on which to save up for and after this I'm leaning towards the X-H2. Thanks for doing such a detailed comparison :)(:
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful!
I did have the original Lumix S1 and loved the camera but AF was found wanting so it did not stay long
Great to hear. The autofocus on the S5 II is incredible. Hope you enjoy your new purchase!
I have gone with a new Lumix S1R with 24-105 mm in kit which is now cheaper than this two. It is a fantastic gear .
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing!
Great video. I love both systems, but to me the fuji looks more like film images, and the Lumix looks digital
That's a good observation. Thank you for your comment!
Where X-H2 got Internal Raw Video?
Yeah, the Panasonic info was wrong, too, or at least phrased confusingly. 10bit 422 is an option at 4k, just not at 6k.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Which lenses did you use for the tests?
Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 Lens:
B&H - bhpho.to/3jlODp3 and
Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4 Lens:
B&H - bhpho.to/3XLyVkY
Would like to see a comparison of the Nikon ZF and Z63
Thanks for the suggestion. We will see what we can do.
Fuji has Hugo color space selection, and I am wondering if your selection is good with the test.
Hugo is a great space but it can has some problems on the back end.
I am genuinely curious why you wouldn't compare it to the xh2s instead, which is similar in pixel resolution and video features?
That is a good idea. We will check into that.
I could go on and on…
For me I stoped to invest into Fuji lenses as they are just for Fuji. If you want to switch the system in the future, you have to sell all your gear. Therefore I prefere to buy manual full frame lenses, that I can adapt to all my gear, included fuji. Or I buy Sigma L-mount lenses for AF.
That is a great approach with your lenses. Good plan!
How have you found the S5 IQ vs your XT30? I had the latter (currently X-T3), but are looking to buy a S5
Why do so many comparisons ignore the X-H2s? That's clearly the closer competitor with all the video centric features.
It's on our list. Thanks for watching!
Because these two are at the same price point!
I love the Panasonic Lumix colors, I may switch from my Sony a7R III
Wow Model is a real dime. And s5 ii for the win
Thanks for sharing your choice and thanks for watching!
I find it weird that you are saying its a good thing that a 40 mp sensor is holding its own against a 24 mp sensor, while still losing to it pretty clearly. Thats just an all around bad thing lol.
It performed quite well against a full frame!
Hola, con que software ha comparado los archivos raw de ambas cámaras, gracias.
We used Adobe Camera raw with the Fujifilm and Panasonics Silky Pix because Adobe Raw was not available for the Panasonic when we did the review.
Why didn't you talk about dynamic range
We opted not to cover it. Thanks for letting us know you see it as important!
I bought fujifilm xh-2, I have a chance to return it. better to buy panasonic s5 ii?
It really depends on your priorities and what you shoot.
There was somerhing odd about the quallty comparisson, seems that Fuji RAW file was not processed correctly...
Not sure what part of the video you are referencing. Could you share a time stamp?
Funny these are the 2 cameras I'm deciding between at the moment.
Hard decision. Let us know what you end up choosing!
me 2
I shoot at 12800 ISO all the time on my S5. Looks good for most applications.
That is good to know. Thanks for sharing!
these are video centric camera's primarily.... so.... actually aps-c sensor is better for that.
Plz do the s5mk2x vs xh2s
We will see if we can make that happen. Thanks for the idea!
Great review and comparison. There are too many cameras and little to no innovation. I'll wait for the global shutter and proper menus and connection apps
There are a lot of great options out there!
Correction the GOAT of video specs and social media is XH2S for autofocus and open gate recording. LUMIX open gate to awesome too. ❤
True, true. Lots of great choices out there!
If Samyang supported Panasonic, it would be the perfect system 😊
That would be nice. Thanks for your comment!
But why did you not use newest 56mm F1.2 on Fuji X-H2? (The Sharpest APSC Lens Ever Made)
We were wanting to compare to a 50mm full frame. So that was our only choice.
When you gave a Point to Lumix for the Luts what about the Film emulations on the Fuji
That would have been another good thing to include!
Can you please make Comparation s5ii and fuji xh2s? Thnx
We will definitely do that when we can get our hands on the X-H2S.
I would lpve to own the fuji but the lumix just kills it
And it is hard to compete with a full frame camera. But it does quite well.
When it comes to video, these two are actually very different. Codecs and resolution f.e.
Yes, they are very different. You are absolutely right.
@Patrick Huynh So you actually took the time to type this completely pointless commentary? Maybe you thought it was funny...
We used the raw images and we set them at 5600 degrees.
you are so experienced photographer that some of these "mistakes" you made made me think you are biased.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
We used the Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4 and the Panasonic 50mm f/1.8. We did not use film simulation.
In terms of image quality, the S5ii had to win, clarity and colors
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Fuji X-H2 or Fuji X-T5 ??
Those are good ones to compare. A lot of similarities!
By the way, Anaya is lovely!
She is great to work with!
Amazing review you saved me rental cost on both cameras. For my own opinion I’m a Canon user since 1989 . But lately I’m not really happy with Canon that limit only to use RF lenses, so one reason or another I’m looking at the S5 II
With 85 1.8 50 1.8 and 18 1.8
Prime lenses all this will cost me $ 1200 more then one Canon RF 85 or 50 and this lenses are excellent no questions on that department BUT ARE HEAVY. This were lumix as the advantage and after I saw the low light and iso test
I will now own that system just because I can’t have any smaller 1.4 L lenses for my system that is what I need small prime.
Hopefully I will see you at WPPI great work glad you doing great 😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. See you at WPPI!
The color changed throughout the day. We found that pretty interesting.
@@TheSlantedLens cool! Thanks for clarifying!
Damn, I was not expecting Fuji to have even worse IBIS than Sony
IBIS on Fujis has always been pretty bad, compared to Canon and Panasonic/Leica.
That Panasonic IBIS is really nice!
Why don't you dare to say "The Panasonic is the clear winner!"? It's just obvious. ;)
The Panasonic is great but some people might prefer the strengths of the Fujifilm!
@@TheSlantedLens - No. It's just the typical TH-camr moneymaking habit of comparing two different devices with the sole aim of satisfying both parties for not losing any subscribers. Quite worthless for viewers focusing on the summary at the end, just dishonest and misleading.

Could you make a video on your thoughts about chatGPT and similar program and how it will help and possibly destroy your job. How it can literally finish your photograph and uploaded and create a copyright before you have even time to do it yourself and remove the watermark on your own photos. There are so many things that can be said on the topic. The client will always go with the cheaper price and the photographer will always go the easy route to produce the most photography at the highest price they can get away with. The big egg manufacturers are testing the market to see if they can get the consumer to pay $10 for a dozen eggs. If you ever have watched the movie The menu it describes how the idea of perfection is never met. The idea of the perfect photograph is never the same idea of perfection when viewed by the client
Perhaps this topic will go over the heads of your typical fewer but I do think it would be an important topic to cover. It's coming regardless if the photographer has his head buried in the sand or not.
Something interesting to think about. Thanks for sharing!
wow there what's with the false information the fujifilm xh2 does NOT do internal RAW video
It is via HDMI, not internally.
@@TheSlantedLens yea i no why add it to the internal list then ?
Panasonic way better imo
Thanks for sharing your preference!
Where the Fuji wins is it has virtually no hdmi lag. That’s really it
@@hhankx I know several X-T4 owners who work professionally with the camera and get amazing results, it all comes down to the kinds of thing you are shooting. The big advantage you have with the Panasonic is you can go up in the world but with Fujifilm from the X-H2 you can only go down (Unless you get a GFX).
LOL! Ohhhh that's some powerful dope you're smoking! It's transported you into an alternate universe.
Thanks for sharing your preferences!
You know the Panasonic had all the highend features for video like Shutter angle, Waveform Monitor, Vector Scope, Zebra Pattern, System Frequency (24.00Hz) en Synchro Scan.
The only thing you might name is the crop in 60p, but then you are going to the same sensor size as the fuji....
Myself I'm waiting for the S5IIX, which will be slightly more expensive but will have all the recording features like the Fuji, and a lot more however recording it to SSD will make it a much cheaper option in the long run, storage wise)

Pano has over processed noise reduction this is never mentioned by this guy this is why the details are also softer must be the glasses he wears and keeps on about how clean the images are .this is not the way to go I would rather have a bit of noise and better detail any day of the week
Noise réduction in raw ??
Nope, we didn't use noise reduction.
