Eric, I came across your TH-cam channel while seeking information on traveling to several South East Asian countries to decide where I might consider retiring to. I am traveling to Thailand in October for about 3 weeks and was looking at retiring there, but after watching several of your videos of your and your beautiful family living in Cambodia, I have to seriously reconsider my original plan of Thailand. The visa process and requirements of Cambodia are more attractive to retirees, not to mention the cost of living comparison. The use of US currency for many transactions adds to the living convenience, and as you noted in one of your videos, Cambodia offers a cost level of affordable living that can’t be achieved in the US. I truly enjoyed watching your very informative videos and you just gained a new subscriber. Keep up your great and helpful videos. All the best to you and your family.
Hard to believe I have less than 2.5 months, before I graduate and can make the move! I already got my TEFL and found out that Phnom Penh has one of the best dental surgery hospitals in Asia. I already bought my plane ticket this summer. Goodbye North Dakota winters!
Ugggh. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with winters anymore.
Indeed ! I have friends and families from France and Switzerland countries they were saving their dentals expenses upon arrival in Phnom Penh , Cambodia .
There will be a Halloween party at Peng Huoth's Euro park at the end of this month. Please bring William along. Hopefully, I meet you there. 😅
Count down from 10. Never in my wildest dreams thought something I got taught when I was a kid would come in so handy "on the daily". Thanks for the awesome tips and content been learning a lot. This from a South African who's been living in Phnom Penh for almost five years.
Very good explanation my friend, and you are the best and honest person dude.
I’ll be there in a couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing. I need to know about renting apartments and opening a bank account. I’ll check your other videos later. Cheers.
Kmer24 is the website that the locals use to find apartments and motorbikes. I found an apartment in Phnom Penh for only $50/month. The motorbikes for sale have gone up lately though. They used to be going for $370, but they are running more around that $600 price range now.
Khmer24*
Thanks! Great vids! I'm Canadian, 54, have a TEFL and on my what there in a few weeks!
I liked, sub'd, and will comment on your great vids!
Did you get yours through "i-to-i TEFL" as well? That is where I got my 180 hr., level 5 TEFL.
@@MyLifeThai371 No, online 120 hr course through myTEFL.
Are you working? If so, which school?!
@@nofixedaddress3565 Not yet. I don't graduate from school until the end of the year. I'm getting pretty anxious though. People are saying Cambodia is developing very fast.
good job bro!
Well described ❤
lol! I love your content ! Do I need to bring my table , my coffee stand ? ? 😂 with the fees of shipping’s and taxes overseas it’s worth to start brand new in Cambodia . Thank you my families from North America are half moving back to Cambodia so do I for my earlier retirement . Thank you dear , enjoyed your stay !
Although I encourage people to spend dollars for large purchases. e.g. through banks, or debit cards if you wanna purchase something $100+. But I recommend spending riel for most of the daily purchases (of course you can open Khmer riel bank account which integrated with your dollars account, with all the same payments system), because the central bank is working so hard to dedollarize the economy, plus it’ll be good for future export from the economy further strengthening the control over inflation and deflation 🙏🥺
That's interesting about getting a license and motorcycle license
Glad it helped! Come visit!
Great video buddy
Thanks 👍
Passap is what I use. Its good to be linked to your ABA account.
That's funny I'm planning to move to Cambodia and I've shipped over a lot of stuff from my house. None of it got damaged the first shit by the had a little bit of problem getting stuff through customs, but I hired a broker and she got my stuff right through.
Thanks!
Woah! Thank you so much, Andy! Much appreciated!
I'm coming there after my annulment here in the Philippines.
What an awesome video !!! Thanks so much. I'm moving to PP in Aug for ESL.
Thanks for all your tips Eric !
Glad this was helpful for you!
Oh that's interesting i never knew you had to bring your driver license
You don't HAVE to, but it sure makes things a lot easier!
More about ABA please 🙏
Great tips for sharing them to the other travelers. As we are aging, we always travel with our travel insurance just in case we need it for the emergency. Can't wait for our coming trip to the Kingdom to get away from our long and cold winter. Happy fall from Minnesota!
"Tom trips out," said his health insurance is 100% free at his government school in Cambodia, if you guys are planning on working there.
@@MyLifeThai371 We are retirees, and we are traveling for fun. We had to live through the genocide there and most of our family members did not survive. I worked for over 30 years with Travelers Insurance as an underwriter. Thanks for the info!
🎉🎉so happy we found your channel!! Your information is straight forward & great! Love tip 7 don't be an infant 😂 how long did it take you to get used to the Money exchange there and just feeling like it was home?
No time at all. Once you've been traveling for a while, mental exchange rate is easy!
👍👍👍 Good 😊
Thanks for the great tips. Do you have any idea how to import a car from the US to Cambodia ? Have a great day
Yeah, the way you do it is that you don't do it. Import tax and shipping will be more than 100% of the value of the car.
Erik, have you & your family visited the Europe Park? You have the best information about living, and getting around Cambodia. Looking forward to more of your videos
Thank you very much!
I have not yet been to Europe Park, though. You're the second person today to suggest it, so maybe I'll check it out. It's pretty far from the city.
Hey Eric.. nice job on your Phnom Pen Videos... You say every apartment is furnished... Question.. if I decided to stay Long Term in Phenom Pen are there unfurnished Apartments or Private Houses available to rent so I could furnish it myself ?
Houses are more likely to be unfurnished.
Hey brother Eric this is Craig again. Do you know if ABA Bank if they accept US social security disability checks ?? Thank you for your advice and keep up the good videos brother to keep bringing me questions.
I'm sorry, I don't know!
Most likely not. I would get them electronically deposited into a USA bank and then transfer the funds to Cambodia or use a USA debit card to withdraw from a Cambodia ATM.
❤❤❤👍👍
A suggestion for a not very cool or exciting video, but would be very essential for new expats - a discussion about government/bureaucracy😮, police, "coffee money," taxes and customs duties, licenses and fees, penalties and fines, medical bills and insurance etc...
There's a lot of good ideas here, but I think I'd skip the whole business about coffee money.
WE ARE NEARLY AT 5K SUB!!!
Soon.
Hello, is it difficult for an American citizen to open a bank account there to collect a monthly SSA benefits. Thank you so much.
It is not difficult to open a bank account of you have a one year visa. I don't know how SSA payments work.
I prefer Riel in long term.
First of all, great content. I appreciate your videos not being of the "sexpat" variety. I'm 61, fit, from Canada, vegetarian, looking at either Nepal, Thailand or Cambodia. My budget will be about 2200 USD and looking for a rather simple retirement with some dating. I'm hoping that is sufficient for PP? Thanks again
Yes, you can definitely live comfortably on that income here.
Thanks so much for the quick reply. @@SecondLifeTravels1
Hi Eric how are you buddy? I I'm Cambodia living in the US l lots of questions to ask you, how can I get in touch with you personally please let me know thanks buddy
You can send an email through TH-cam.
I just learned sth new, and I'm Cambodian 😂😂😂
Please make sure your USD notes are perfect! No tiny rips or old and worn. It’s damn near impossible for you to use the money here. Cambodians won’t take it.
I should have said this. You're absolutely right.
@@SecondLifeTravels1 that’s what having a community is for! Subbie for life! I love watching you and your family navigate PP. You are one of the TH-camrs who helped me. Especially, your neighborhood breakdown video. 3 weeks in The Kingdom of Wonder and I love it 🥰 here. Thanks for your hard work
@@erikacooper4707 Thank you so much!!
It sounds like it is easiest to just use Cambodian Riels and avoid all the stress. That's what I am going to do. Keep it simple. :)
@@MyLifeThai371Trust me, you'll be using dollars from time to time.
How's the air quality right now?
Okay
