    Cambodians are open minded people despite the war genocide and all the problems. Generally they welcome people who respect their culture and who want to learn or speak their language. In Cambodian culture, people tend to connect to their family and relatives and welcome friends. In countrysides people tend to be more friendlier than people in the cities. You can go there and experience yourself. Cheers

My wife would like to stay in China as she doesn't see how serious things are but I've got a strong urge to get out and Cambodia is top of my list! Thank you for this in-depth video!

    I loved Phnom Penh when I came for a visit. I stayed in a nice hotel down near the river with a rooftop bar and pool. Surprisingly, it wasn't at all too expensive. I was surprised how easy it was to get a visa, I got mine at the airport when I arrived, didn't have to order it or anything beforehand. I was also surprised that most people spoke English and at how friendly everyone was. Also the fact that they use U.S. dollars as a currency. I actually went there on a visa run from another Asian country that I was living in, I expected to stay for just a few days but that turned into almost two weeks. Having lived in another Asian country where a lot of people don't speak English and are sometimes not so friendly, my visa run to Cambodia blew me away. I really wanted to stay. Unfortunately, sometime later I had to return to my own country, which is where I am now, but I miss living in Asia so much. I am seriously thinking about retiring in Phnom Penh, not sure how that would work out. Nice video, I liked the humour. Take care.

    If you ever need ideas a few things I’d personally love to know more about is:
    Music scene in Cambodia- wots hot, places to go, live, radio
    Who are the “influencers” political figures? Soap stars? Singers?
    There seem to be a lot of charities around- how and who should I actually support?
    Pets - adoption? Care? Recipes?
    Any advice on learning Khmer? Schools? Finding tutors?
    I really love your local travel vids too (kamphot, koh rong, etc) Cambodia seems so undiscovered- I’d love to learn about other cool places to visit too.
    Thanks again! Maybe see you round a 50c pint den.

      There's contact info for agents that can help you, plus website links.
      A lot of places will want to do a year long lease, but the agents will help you find some that don't require it. Some condos that I know will do short term: jtower1, queen mansion, residence 105, kc apartment. You can probably find contact info for them on Google maps and then call them. Also, check airbnb. If the listing says what building it is, or if you can figure it out, you can contact them directly for a better deal. Good luck.

      Yes. Cigna. I think health insurance is a scam though. Apparently Cigna is good, but they made me pay for a checkup, which should be free once a year, but it was deemed not a checkup because of the way the doctors labeled it on the receipt. They couldn't tell me what exactly the problem was. They said it's determined by a guy that works for them and there's no way I can determine if any future checkups will be considered checkups before I bill them. Which of the foreign countries you have lived in has the best local beer?

    • @itchyfeetonthecheap
      @itchyfeetonthecheap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you're just talking about the popular local lager Vietnam, Ecuador, and Cambodia are all pretty much the same. China's beer is not good. If you include local craft beer, probably Ecuador... But Cambodia is a close second.

      seems you can get anything there now. ive had great local beer in phils, cambodia. lots of small distilleries popping up.

    I am scared to go back to Cambodia I came to America in 1985 my family and I ran away from the Khmer Rouge Genocide in 1975 . How are things in Cambodia right now? I hope it’s better . Cambodia is a very beautiful place I missed growing vegetables and catching fish in the rivers with my family. Can you do a video tour of Cambodia . Thank you for sharing this video.

    Hey Ryan…love the vlogs! Ill be in Cambodia next month for 10 days…based in Phenom Penh but was wondering is a day trip to Angkor Wat doable or should i overnight it? Peace!

    • @itchyfeetonthecheap
      @itchyfeetonthecheap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You'll definitely want to stay overnight in siem reap. The drive from Phnom Penh is like 5-6 hours. I'd recommend at least 2 nights in siem reap so you have a full day at Angkor.

    If I see the washing machine in your back than I know why I live in bangkok. I really love Phnom Penh but if I compare it to bangkok than almost everything in PH is more expensive. Comparable Condos costs in Phnom Penh 3 times like in Bangkok. The Food in the food courts is more expensive. Even simple restaurants like pepper lunch are more expensive in Phnom Penh than in Bangkok. What's really is cheaper is to drive a Tuk Tuk and drink a draft beer that's until now the only thing I find cheaper in Phnom Penh than in bangkok

    • @itchyfeetonthecheap
      @itchyfeetonthecheap  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The housing costs is a big one, but Bangkok is HUGE compared to PP, with many areas to live. If you compare the housing costs in BKK1 (PP's most expensive area) to whatever the equivalent is in Bangkok (maybe Siam). You'll find that the costs aren't that much different. We pay $750 for 75 square meters ($10/meter). Find me a place in Bangkok's most expensive area, that has a pool and gym, for that price.

    Hi if I was to move there what would I need to do as far as the government rules or paper work ? And do they require you to put a certain amount of money in the bank at first ? I know ow bangkok does , anyway I'd it easy to get a apartment could I get one in 1 or 2 days with no problem? Do they accept US dollar there? Like if pay for 3 months in advance would they go for that?, I'm assuming they have HOT water?🙄🙄You know some countries don't
    Thanks

    • @itchyfeetonthecheap
      @itchyfeetonthecheap  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about the visa, but you can easily find a place in a day or 2. They accept usd and they would probably expect you to pay the first month's rent, plus a month's rent as a deposit. Apartments have hot water in the shower, some have it in the bathroom sink, and a few have it in the kitchen sink.

    Surprised to hear that the English is better there than elsewhere in Asia. Where were you thinking of, specifically? Based on the 2021 English Proficiency Index scores, the best places in Asia for English are Singapore, Philippines, and Malaysia. Cambodia ranked as "very low proficiency."

    • @itchyfeetonthecheap
      @itchyfeetonthecheap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think I said 'most places in Asia'. The countries you listed are definitely more proficient at English. And I'm sure countries like Korea can score higher on proficiency tests, but I doubt there is more English when you compare the lower income jobs. At least basic English. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've traveled to 13 countries in Asia.

    • @lidraxler6836
      @lidraxler6836 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      on the list of proficiency , you will find out China , Korea , Japan are ranked higher than Cambodia , but in matter of fact people in Cambodia widely speak English than those countries at least basic English. People in China can barely understand English , I would 1 over 100 people can understand English but in Cambodia you will find out 20 over 100 people in Cambodia can communicate with you in English

    • @natalie-s9w1y

      Singapore, Phillipines and Malaysia I think had British or American influenced during colonial times or something so their English is much better.
