Thanks for the video. Yes, this looks like a much better solution. I have a 2011 Rav4 and the plastic drainer that comes with the Toyota filter doesn't work too well. I wasn't able to find a Walmart SuperTech filter for my Rav, but I got the ST10158 filter which has this threaded drainer and it fits the housing perfectly (just tossing the filter itself). For those interested, the plastic tubing to get is 1/2 inch inside diameter. Another tip - the Rav4 and I guess many other models comes with a plastic oil filter housing which is subject to breaking/cracking. Toyota makes a metal housing too - I'm replacing my plastic housing with the metal housing at the next oil change (Toyota part 15620-31060).
The filter needed depends on your model of Toyota, but if you just want the plastic threaded drainer you can get any of the SuperTech filters that will fit Toyotas with this style cartridge oil filter. I couldn't find a SuperTech filter for my 2011 Rav4 at Walmart, but they did have the ST10158 filter which includes this drainer. I got that filter for less than $3, tossed the filter and kept the drainer, which fits the housing for my Rav4 perfectly.
This only drains oil out of the oil filter. I guess the intention is to try to help you keep it a little cleaner as you unscrew the oil filter (so oil doesn't go everywhere as you do so). After using this, the majority of oil is still remaining in engine. To do a proper oil change, you need to make sure you drain all of that oil out as well through the oil pan drain plug and also change the actual oil filter.

FYI I understand that Amsoil filters also include a threaded drainer.
what is the super-tech model for the oil filter?
