Toyota Oxygen Sensor Electrical Connector Removal & Denso Parts Notes / Camry, Avalon, Lexus, 2GR-Fe
Video shows specifically how to remove a 2008 Toyota Avalon Bank 2, Position 2, oxygen sensor electrical connector without breaking it. It also shows a specific tool and tool mod for doing so. Additionally it shows what Denso replacement will look like and the startling visual differences from the Toyota original part. Also shows that Denso has changed from including a packet of anti sieze to just sending the part pre treated with it (no little packets any more). The electrical clip can probably be found on most Toyotas... especially 2GR-FE V6s and models like Highlander, Avalon, Camry, Venza, Sienna, Tocoma, Tundra, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Lexus ES350 (and other Lexus models). Model years in or near the range of 2005-2012.

I like the OEM canister, less waste, I burn my used motor oil in a Dickinson Diesel stove to heat my insulated garage. I change a couple neighbors oil for free if they buy the stuff, for the oil. A 5 quart jug will heat up the garage 4 or 5 times, just take the chill off 55 is way better than 30.

The main reason you're having such a messy experience is because you're not draining the canister before removing it. Another case of RTFM.

At $260 for this waste of money because the canister will still leak taking it off, I calculate that I could have purchased 62.5 filter kits from amazon. LOL

Reminds me of the lawn care company ad where a moron homeowner spills the fertilizer all over his driveway in an attempt to fill the broadcast spreader. Loosen the housing until it starts to leak at a decent rate and it drains nicely into the pan. Save the $260 because removing the canister will still leak the same way if you are that moron.

Problem with those rubber bands, is they break after a few months. Just curious, how about painting them and then throwing them on an adapter in the drill and using the chrome polish on something harder but not too hard like a rubber sanding pad? Seems it would help your process since the rubber wouldn’t pull the paint out of the grooves. I’m gonna try that

    • @jotu173

You're absolutely correct about the rubber bands breaking. A few months later I took all of them off because of that and wish I'd never have put in the video. Let me know how your proposed method works out and good luck!

Just because you don't know how to change the oil without making a mess doesn't mean that it's the worst thing that Toyota ever did. I have no problems with this type of system, especially since I'm used to it doing the oil changes on BMWs and Volkswagens. Pretty much all the European cars have used this system for years. Like I said, just because you don't understand how to do it doesn't mean that it can't be done; you just have to know how to do it without making a mess. And the old spin-on filters were just as messy, if not worse, than the paper cartridge-style filters.

Dude you're still gonna have that same mess taking the spin on off each time. All you had to do is drain the cartridge properly and you get no mess. Why is it so hard for some people? I have a Tundra 5.7 with a cartridge and can change the filter properly without even getting my hands dirty. Suckers are born every minute I guess, Baxter definitely found a pile of them!

Wow your opinion is so wrong. If done properly this is a piece of cake. Drain it first If you want. Use a hose on the drain tool into an empty oil jug. While it is draining get a drink wait a couple of minutes and screw the whole thing off. You don't have to drain it just start screwing it off and pretend it is a screw-on filter and dump oil on everything. Pretend it is a Dodge truck and pour oil on all the steering links. Better yet put the filter on sideways so it will start draining from the beginning and drain on a hot exhaust pipe like a 340 or 360 in an A body. Yea its a real bitch.

That cannister filter adapter looks attractive but I wonder how well the oil flow is. Unbelievable they did this to such a critical engine component

The thing that convinced me ruthenium wasn't better is in nkg's own testing they compared their worst iridium plug vs their new ruthenium one and it was only slightly better, they didn't even compare their better, higher quality iridium ones which tells me that ruthenium is better when comparing them to cheap low quality iridium but expensive high quality iridium is better than ruthenium

Long story short, I think you're dreaming unless you're willing to rivet the magnets to the door of your service truck. Can’t see the point of this, you still have to change the filter and it doesn’t save you any money, (in fact cost you more to buy the conversion). Easy enough to change the ones fitted from factory, without any mess if you use the plastic drain piece supplied with every new filter.

great video, picked ruthenium, honda service interval at 105k miles so the service life is fine, oe is laser iridium on a set of 6 saved about $130. at least in my application they were significantly cheaper with a long enough service life, which is fine since honda wants you to change them early anyways. don't think they're likely better in any way other than being cheaper, if they're more expensive they would make 0 sense in any application. Still miss the old copper $6 for a set of 6, but you were changing them out every third oil change.

That mess is because you aren’t doing it correctly. Draining the filter is not that big of a deal. Quit complaining if you’re not going to use it as designed. Good luck with that new oil filter, by the size of it you’ll likely need to replace it two or three times as often. What a pain.
