The council's biggest mistake was that they not tell Anakin why he had to remain on Coruscant for the rest of the War. If Anakin new that he was to prep for Sidious to reveal himself at the end of the war, he would have something to focus on other then his visions. Instead they threw it in his face that he wasn't a Jedi Master despite being one of it not their most successful General in the Clone War. Which just isolated from the Jedi, making things too easy for Sidious
While I agree that not telling Anakin was a mistake given what happened, from the Councils perspective, telling him the truth could've tipped off Palpatine and in turn Sidious in a number of ways. It's like that one Clone Wars episode where Obi-Wan faked his death in order to go undercover to discover Dooku's plans. The Order needed Anakin's reaction to be genuine in order for the event to be believable. Granted, both instances were poorly handled and made little difference in the end.
@@ThoraxetheImpaile100They could have simply ordered him to stay and spar and meditate with Master Windu on the coming battle with the Sith lord, and left Sheev on hold, not letting him talk to Anakin, nor Anakin to him. He had a critical mission, after all. Keeps Skywalker under observation and on task, and bluntly tells Palpatine to pound sand, as the Jedi do their own thing.
@willdavis3802 Perhaps, and the sparring would have kept Anakin distracted and his mind sharp. However, we also need to remember what kind of person Anakin is. When he hears that a friend is in danger, he does whatever he can to protect them regardless of the consequences. Subtlety has never been his strong suit, at least not in something as delicate as the situation he found himself in.

@@ThoraxetheImpaile100 The Council's intention regarding Palpatine was to remove him from Office if/when he held onto his emergency powers after Grievous' death. There was no need to have Anakin spy on him and risk his loyalty. In fact sending Anakin to kill Grievous would mean he would not have been able to interfere in the Chancellor's removal. Which might have forced Sidious to reveal himself before he could turn Anakin to the Sith
I saw another level of deviousness from Palpatine. He picked Anakin for the mission precisely because the Council would reject his selection to spite him. This would in turn further alienate Anakin from the Council.

Putting aside the chancellor being the Dark Lord of Sith for a moment the Jedi Council made the right diction not to send Anakin to help hunt Grievous but they were wrong not to let Anakin to the chancellor alone they should have an other knight who Anakin respected and was personally with familiar to accomany him, along with not letting him give his own voice on council meeting they maybe not let him vote but at least stated his a views as well as chancllor that will at the least throw a monkey wranch into his plans even if it is just a little one

@@Spock4771 No, we didn't. All they said is they wanted him to spy on the chancelor. They didn't tell him they wanted to make sure he was at the capitol so he could confront the sith lord himself. All they said is that they wanted him to do the shady work for them. They made him sound like a pawn when in reality he was a queen that they wanted to make sure was ready to strike. Then Windu really fucked up and didn't take him like Yoda and some of the other jedi wanted. Hell, at least one of the ones that went with him was not happy to find out Anakin wasn't coming with them.

They did pretty similar thing lol, Mace said that he trusts Anakin. He didn't judge him even a bit, when Anakin arrived in office. And while Palpatine ine was attacking, he wanted Anakin to do the job. Which Anakin didn't and Mace almost dead.(and Anakin just continues like nothing happened) But STILL Mace was not mad at him, and wanted to finish himself.
I think people don't really understand how petty Anakin was. And if the jedi were 50% of the problem, 50% was Anakin, his affection for Padmé. And people really can't see the situation, as Palpatine said, "you must choose". It was the jedi or Palpatine, no more. Letting Sidous survive would be a suicide move for The Republic since he controls all stuff.
And at the end of they, Anakin will chose Palaptine for Padmé.
Yeah, let's imagine, they did that, and later they decided to arrest Palaptine, Mace wants Anakin to finish Palaptine, as a difference Anakin hesitates more 5 seconds and bad ending happens. The end.
Sidious was also foreseeing the future on things. So, after telling the Jedi Anakin would be a master to represent the Republic, he tells them he wants Anakin to take out Grievous, knowing they'd say no, knowing they'd send Kenobi just to spite Palpatine. But this was what he wanted them to do, using their own rebellion against them in this moment to make them do what he really wanted them to do secretly.
Palpatine always tried seeing the future, but he wasn't good at it at all. He was good at sensing things in the present far away, but the future was always a 1/10th truth, 9/10ths bullshit in his visions.

The actual reason the council sent Kenobi was because of his mastery of form III. To your point Palpatine Knew this ahead of time and foresaw. The council didn’t make the the decision to spite Palpatine but as a side effect they weren’t complaining about it either 😭👏🏼

You forgot something: Shatterpoint only reveals the weakness, it does not tell you how to use it to your advantage. You can notice flaws of the enemy with or without shatterpoint, the outcome still gonna be decided on your ability to use that knowledge to your advantage, an Mace died because he failed to do so. Shatterpoint even revealed to him Anakin was the key of the endgame yet he failed to capitalise on that and caused his own downfall.

Interesting conundrum, pops up if they had sent anakin and Obi one or just sent anakin. If they did this anakin, isn't there to discover that palpitine is sidious, which means he never reports him to the council, which means they never unveil that he's the dark Lord, which brings up the question. At what point then does Order 66 take place? Because the jedi never made to look evil. And if the case, how does palpitating take over the republic
My thoughts exactly!!! And let’s say Sidious has another conversation with Anakin and reveals himself. I think Anakin would’ve reported to Obi-Wan instead of Mace Windu..this one decision alone would’ve changed everything! I don’t think Anakin would’ve been so quick to turn if Obi-Wan was with him
@@TheBigmanjr2Obiwan and Anakin walking in to see Palpatine would have played out almost exactly opposite. Anakin would have just on instinct fought to protect Obiwan whereas he kind of hated Windu.
Which is interesting because in the past the Chancellor Vellorum and others (books) would assign Jedi to missions-trust was breaking down and they weren’t handling it well
We certainly deserved way more screen-time for Grevous in Live‐action. To see more Jedi fight him, for instance.

Canon Grievous we are TOLD so many times that he's a skilled warrior, kills many jedi, is dangerous yet what we've SEEN of him is the complete opposite to the point where it's hard to believe he's even considered a threat.
I agree, his appearance in tales of the empire was sick! We needed that in clone wars s7 instead of 4 episodes of the spice runner girls. We need more Grievous!
The clone war series wasn't origionally meant to be canon, obviously. Kenobi was genuinely surprised by the 4 arm thing in the movie, although he has seen it before in the cartoon several times before this.
Because Anakin might just not defeat Grevious in an out and out duel and becauss the Jedi order we’re playing power politics with Sidious refusing to let the chancellor have his way here.
Plus as they say in the film, a master was needed to defeat Grevious. Most accurately the master of soresu, Kenobi whose perfect defensive style would allow him to blunt grevious attacks with an impenetrable defence until the cyborg general Mayes must shed that he can exploit with deadly accuracy to win the duel.
Exactly people overlook that obi wan was the best choice being the master of soresu and already have killed a sith assassin in Darth Maul, the council also sides with him to spite the senate and chancellor cuz they can’t have the senate completely controlling them (obviously they were so blind that they couldn’t see it) it was also Palestine’s way of completely turning anakin knowing full well the council would never approve of the senate having power in the decisions of the Jedi council making in anakins mind that the Jedi have something against him and won’t let him help when he n everyone knows he’s the chosen one

When Obi-Wan got knocked out by Dooku, Anakin killed Dooku at the urging of the then bound Palpatine. Dismantling droids is one thing, but to kill is a slippery slope staght to the darkside for one not properly prepared and after ALL those tusken raiders. Best not risk it.❤

I think a heavy dose of envy was at play, in spite of how much the Jedi would claim that Jedis don't feel envy.

They didn't give Anakin the glory cause Palpatine and Anakin wanted it and they didn't trust Anakin in general. They contrived their plan to seize control of the senate and told Anakin nothing, he was to remain at the temple under their control as per Windu's instructions. Giving him additional glory served no purpose when their seat of power is under threat.

The "short" leash vs Grevious was clearly worry that either Anakin falls to Darkness TOO fast OR that he loses an gets maimed or especially KILLED by the Cyborg. Besides NOT fully trusting Anakin on the opposite side of that coin he WAS one of their greatest if not THE Greatest Knight an general they had. Losing him would've been BAD for both their image an war effort. An there they probably held similar thoughts definitely it had to be posed wether if he'd fallen even if hed won alone given his temperament

Mace wanted him to stay at the temple and in his mind, that wouldn't be a problem for the chosen one prophecy since he is there for only *arrest* Palpatine not because he wants to finish him.
And before you say "but later he did want that", Mace wanted Anakin to finish Palpatine as we read in the novelization so yeah. Mace was the biggest "fan" of that prophecy at the moment.
And even way before that, in Shatterpoint book, in his journal he has pretty positive idea about Anakin being the chosen one.

It has never made sense to me that they didn't think palpatine was was the The dark Lord, if you even just watch the clone words from only the perspective of the jedi. End anything that has to do with flake. The palpatine stuff you're you don't watch or just pay it. The jedi teach critical thinking and not to completely be reliant on the force. That's a very big piece that's taught. And anyone who takes a step back and looks at all the events and puts them together conceive. Alpatine is the Lord. It doesn't make sense. The member of his inner circle would be the lord, especially since they have recordings of Of discussions
1 thing I always wondered: if Dooku was the only person training Grievous, and Grievous knew all 7 forms of Lightsaber combat to some degree ... doesn't this mean that Dooku himself must've known all 7 forms of Lightsaber combat to some degree too ... but he was a Makashi/Form 2 specialist ... and he was completely against mastering more than 1 form ... something isn't right here ... unless it was indeed programmed inside of Grievous' brain, but then again if that were the case, why would Dooku waste his time training Grievous at all?

That and by sending Obiwan away, the Jedi High Council believed that could better control Anakin. And oh were they wrong.
If Obiwan stayed on Coruscant, regardless of if Obiwan learned about Padme, when Obiwan learned from Anakin that Palpatine was Sidious, Obiwan would have immediately realized Palpatine had been grooming Anakin as a future Sith Apprentice, and Obiwan would have done everything in his power to keep Anakin away from Palpatine. This likely would have included disobey orders, such as Mace asking Obiwan to come with him to confront Palpatine. Obiwan knew if he went to confront Palpatine, Anakin would follow.
Short answer: cuz they didn't like Palpatine telling them who they should send, thus playing directly into his hands by ordering Anakin to stay on Coruscant just as he knew they would reject his suggestion.

Jk, Obi Wan’s defensive suresu was the perfect counter to Grievous’ attacks while Anakin was too aggressive which served well against Dooku. Also Palpatine’s push fits in his plans as he knows the Council doesn’t trust him or Anakin so they would reject it and push Anakin further.
They should have sent anakin, they really let there personal feeling get in the way ironically to me it makes more sense. If anakin went on that mission and was known as the one who got to take out not only dooku but grievous aswell that would be playing his ego in a good way I feel and should of had obiwan there to help with the sith lord when he pops up if they were hoping, personally I think that couldve used more of a jedi masters touch.
If the Jedi council had explained things to Anakin the way that you explained it in this video, I'm pretty sure Anakin would have taken it a lot better
Part of the problem for the Council and for Anakin was that they never really explained things to him because some members of the council just didn't trust him. They didn't even want him to be trained as a jedi but were coerced into it by Qui-Gon's final wish and Obi-Wan's insistence that he would do it whether they agreed or not.
And Anakin knew from the start that there were Jedi against him because they announced to his face that he wouldn't be trained and started giving reasons like "he's too old".
Personally whilst I'm a massive fan of anakin I do think that obi wan was the right choice for this mission as I feel that if anakin had gone on his own then general gerivous would stoke Anakin's anger and I feel that in Anakin killing grevious it would cause him to give into his anger and fall the dark side all the sooner another reason I think this is that I feel that if he had been sent and had killed grevious himself it would have stoked Anakin's ego and confidence even more which would lead him to demand the rank of master outright due to his accomplishments on the field of battle which would have drove an even bigger wedge between anakin and the council and drove him even further into the arms of palpatine so I do think that obi wan was the right choice for this mission and not Anakin

That would be something; however the Jedi Order, was so entangled with the Republic that their destinies were intertwined.
The Jedi dispatched Obi-Wan because, had Anakin eliminated Grievous, the Emperor would have claimed complete credit for ending the war, and his subsequent action would likely have been to compel the Jedi to dissolve. I believe this was the Supreme Chancellor's initial strategy to destroy the Jedi as it would have made people lose faith in the Jedi while fully trusting the Chancellor as the true protector of the galaxy. Compelling them to disband was where the Chancellor expected the conflict to happen and that is why he implanted Order 66 to make the Clones overwhelm the Jedi. When the Council decided to send Obi-Wan, it disrupted the Supreme Chancellor's plans, which is why Palpatine appeared surprised and was compelled to take the desperate step of revealing his identity as the Sith Lord to Anakin.
Palps knew exactly that the jedi would never send anikan simply because he suggested it. He just needed anikan alone and away from level heads
Had Anakin been sent to battle Grievous he definitely would’ve fallen to the dark side earlier than he actually did.

They simply didn’t sent him out of spitefulness and defiance against Palpatine’s control, as he was the one who requested it, and put Anakin on the council, interfering with Jedi affairs, so the Jedi refused this request as a small victory to resist Palpatine’s control over them. If Palpatine never interfered, I believe Anakin and Obi Wan would have been sent together, like they were during the entire clone wars missions, but cus Palpatine requested it, the Jedi childishly refused, causing to isolate Anakin even more which made him more turn against them. As Palpatine said to Yoda, his arrogance blinds them.
If Anakin did go to Utapul and engage general grievous, his fall to the dark side would have never happened but order 66 would probably still happen though but not in the way we might expect.

edit - kidding aside, I figure if the Council had sent Anakin with Obi-Wan, Palpatine (as Sidious) would've told Grievous to escort the Separatist Council to Mustafar personally, so that when Anakin & Obi-Wan arrived on Utapau to find their target wasn't really there, it could be framed to Palpatine's advantage. Granted, he'd have to adjust his plans a little bit to get Anakin back to Coruscant without Obi-Wan, but when it comes to Palpatine's plans, he's got the whole alphabet
I disagree about Anakin beating General Grievous. Grievous's cybernetic brain can copy Anakin's Form V lightsaber style to figure out a way to cut him down after a brief but intense duel. If Anakin used the Force more and since he is not scared of the cyborg general then he could have a greater chance. He would still lose 8/10 times as even Mace Windu, a far superior duelist and Force user than Anakin, could not beat Grievous and was had to disengage before the cyborg could copy Vapaad. Yeah, only Obi-Wan Kenobi and his perfect Form III and more willingness to be more attuned to the Force was the perfect counter against Grievous. Anakin doesn't stand a chance at any point in the Clone Wars.

Why does anybody duel Grievous when they can lift him up with the force and crush him like a beer can. He has no Force ability to stop them. Maybe some some Jedi ‘wouldn’t go there’, but Anakin would have..
Also if he was on utapau, order 66 couldn't have happened. Ani pretty much kills windu and thus saving palps. If ani was on utapau none of this would've happened.
Hmmm form 5 aggressive vs a Cyborge that knew almost all forms and could adapt and has four arms with lightsabers that could overwhelm almost any jedi with that form....Yeah Anakin would be fighting himself but over 9 thousand when it came to aggression and strength....He also has zero experience with Grievous and not the best defensive jedi more of an offense but Grievous is way more offensive and stronger amd hits harder if Anakin dose not take it seriously he could tire out realistically if he went alone....I see him relying more on the force than saber skill to win but Grievous has survived force attacks and even dogged force attacks and overpowered force grips...Can Anakin win yes but it will be the fight of his life.....Can Grievous win? Absolutely because he almost killed Obi Wan who is better at fighting Grievous more than anyone....
lets be real, the council and pretty much all Jedi in general just aren't very smart people. Jedi are known for being heroes not critical thinkers. 🤣

The Stupendous wave prime Anakin Skywalker at his peak before he turned to the dark side and became Darth Vader hats or passed and was above every other Jedi, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, but we still below or equal to Yoda and mace windu and also just like Anakin Skywalker was able to defeat and kill count Dooku alone all by himself he could have would have done the same thing to both maul and grievous eater separately or together if he was sent after them because again we all know everything and all of how powerful strong, fast smart was prime Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one the hero with no fear at his peak all before he turned to the Darkside and became dark Vader ok
