    The way your mom holds her hands while clapping the roti reminds me of my mum's hands, same texture, same way nail length and way she hold her fingers out. I'm going to try this recipe bc I really want roti and want to make some for my mum instead of the other way around. Fingers crossed. Thx!

    I make roti almost exactly like your mom. I don't add salt or shortening. I just use oil. (I don't use olive oil as I find that a bit heavy). I LOVE that your mom uses her hands to clap the roti! I admire her technique so much. Mine comes out leafy as well. Your explanation showed me why it comes out leafy/flaky. I learned something today. Thanks for sharing! ❤❤❤❤

I can never get it right but I’ll keep trying. I’m calling that person out! I have never seen a square roti made by a Guyanese. Who ever made that roti was not Guyanese!

      Great cooking techniques for the roti, and especially how she did the dough . If the dough is not soft, the roti will not be soft and flaky. Her method of wrapping the roti dough is what I learn as a young girl. Her method was excellent. I am a Guyanese and I know how to cook very well. This video was excellent.

    My mum is very Guyanese and my dad is very white. When they were first married in 1975, they went to visit my my mum’s family in Guyana (from England). My grandma made curry and roti, obviously and my dad who’d never had them before, ate 17 in one sitting! My uncles and cousins were looking at him like “where dis skinny white buoy puttin’ it??” 😂
    Also, square roti? Never!

    This is the closest I have ever gotten to my mom's roti -- amazing! One thing: mine came out a little on the tough side ... still yummy, but a bit tough. Did I handle it too much during the kneading process, you think?

    • @pizee
      @pizee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you may have kneaded it too much. In fact, I don't knead mine at all. I just mix it up with a spoon to make a soft dough and put it to rest. Please try that method and see if it works for you.

    Very good video! A friend makes it for me sometimes and I decided I can’t keep waiting for her to do it, so I looked it up and am trying it right now. The only unsolicited feedback I have is, I wish you mentioned the proportions for the ingredients, and level of heat used for those of us who completely lack culinary skills and don’t know what to look for. Still, it was enough to set me on my way, so thanks!
