    I would have liked to have heard a narrative on how and what tools, components. Explanations of why this or that was chosen to be used or designed. Things like that. You obviously have great talent. Sharing it more in depth would be ideal and I would have liked to have heard more. Well done project.

    Misleading title, but awesome video. DIY indicates something average people might be able to do with a little learning.
    This is not that. At all.
    Edit: This is a sweet fucking tablet, dude. I wish they would sell this sort of tablet on the market. It's what I want. Basically a nice sized screen-tablet, that can be a desktop for games.

    You don't have to make these for anyone. I know for a fact that there are tons of people (myself included) willing to throw boat-loads of money at you for detailed, step-by-step plans, videos and diagrams for this. Include a RepRap style wiki for people to modify and enhance the designs and you'll be famous. Just saying...

    No joke, people will buy this if you let them. Tablets today are horrendous in comparison and this probably cost less. A full parts list would be appreciated. Not just the main ingredients, what motherboard, connectors batteries everything. Estimated price for everything. If people could make there own instead of buying shitty ones from big companies it would be epic.

  • @cdurkinz
    @cdurkinz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was watching at first and I was like.... "Hmm, cool idea but how in the world is he going to encase it?" Then he builds a case from scratch... by hand... mind blown. Really awesome job man, you have some skills big time. Very impressive. I have a very similar old gaming notebook, i7 3630qm and GT 650m in it that just sits on the floor under my desk, isn't even used anymore. The only thing I don't like about this, is that in the end you still just plugged in a keyboard and mouse to game, because we really don't have any good touchscreen games. So that kind of sucks but overall, very awesome. You made something completely custom for sure. Love the battery on that thing lol. Which they'd make gaming notebooks with batteries that are that hardcore.
    You know what I don't get... WHY don't they make mini ITX boards with MXM slots? I mean I guess the easy answer is that MXM form factor GPU's aren't prevalent yet but that would be the ultimate build, especially with the GTX 1060, 1070, and 1080's all now being in the MXM form factor. I cannot believe AiB partners don't jump on MXM GPU's, I guarantee people would buy them just like full size desktop GPU's if the prices were identical or close.

    • @sebastiaanscholtens7763
      @sebastiaanscholtens7763 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      gamer taboo because mxm gpu s are expensive, really expensive

    • @cdurkinz
      @cdurkinz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are you're right. But I really think that there is a market out there of people who want to game on notebooks, and will upgrade their GPU when it comes time. If things became standardized like the size and shape of the MXM GPUs and their cooling in every notebook, and AiB partners decided to start making them, prices could come down a little and it really could be awesome for gaming.

    • @sebastiaanscholtens7763
      @sebastiaanscholtens7763 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      gamer taboo there is actually one or two mobos with mxm for desktops. A good mxm card for the price would be a gtx 880m or 780m for -200$ on ebay

    Not sure what is the big deal is with slapping a laptop motherboard into an acrylic case, but it surely is a tough job to get the wiring right on all that tiny stuff.
    What rather amuses here is how he got a ~17 inch screen with capacitive touch working, i wonder wether it was part of the old laptop or some i2c touch controller kit he put together.

  • @peoplez129

    1. Still heavy
    2. Imbalanced weight distribution
    3. Not very durable
    4. Probably gets quite hot, but you won't mind if something is in your lap running at 60c+ would you?
    5. Performance is going to be as expected with any i7 3612.
    There's reasons why manufacturers don't make products like this. You'd have people complaining about heat, then about how it's too heavy on one side, and that about how easily it breaks.
    It's easy to overlook exactly how much design decisions go into making actual tablets.

      The point of this Tablet is it's "DIY" project; not Microsoft or Lenovo production line.
      I personally wouldn't mind a heavy tablet that could play Crysis or what not, on the go for an hour two - I mean the majority of people giving this project grieve, I bet they couldn't do this project in less than two weeks let alone reverse engineer a laptop into a gaming tablet for fudge sake Ahah this guy has got some serious skill and brains!
      Well done!

      In my opinion the display of this device is way too big. Using a smaller one would make is less heavy + portable.

      And there's another way just center the heatcore ( heatsink ) and blow it upward then there no problem cause you lap the tab and you got a gap so that improves less heat

    Basically...... He took an existing laptop and removed all the casing. He then made a battery pack. Then he made a case around it. What i am doing is making a laptop with a compact gaming motherboard and a 1080 gpu with dual displays

    I'd be playing rFactor & rFactor 2 on that DIY laptop tablet. I'll pay a good price for it.

    It would be cool to share temps on the laptop and then on the tablet :)
    I would like to make something like this, but unfortunetly there is no touch screen laptop laying around. Damn ... there is no fuctional laptop laying around... :D
