5-Minute Warm Up for At-Home Workouts

  • Before any workout-and especially a high intensity one!-it's important to prepare your body. Depending on the type of workout you're about to do and any muscle imbalances or recovering injuries you have, a proper warm up will vary. In general though, you want to include some light-to-moderate cardio to gradually increase the heart rate and some dynamic (active) stretches for joint mobility.
    This 5-minute warm up is made with the at-home workouts I post to my channel in mind. We'll start with two minutes of cardio bodyweight exercises and then move onto active stretches for a functional range of motion.
    FYI all my newer TH-cam workouts include a warm up at the start.

    Hi everyone! Wanted to share a couple other warm ups I have on my channel:
    -10-MIN WARM UP FOR HIIT WORKOUTS: th-cam.com/video/B6q8F06kpyw/w-d-xo.html In this one, we'll start with some Pilates-inspired, gentle mobility work, then go into cardio (jumping is optional), and finish with a little more mobility. I recommend this one if your body doesn't love starting out with the light cardio.
    -7-MIN GENTLE WARM UP (NO JUMPING): th-cam.com/video/fNJfhtfTJKY/w-d-xo.html Very similar to this 5-min warm up, but the pace is slowed down and it's all low-impact (no jumping during the cardio). If you found this 5-min warm up to be a bit too intense or fast-paced, I recommend this alternate.

    15s jump rope.
    15s jumping jacks.
    15s butt kick.
    15s high knees.
    Repeat once.
    3 alt back lunge
    3x stretch x2
    Roll up.
    3x squats.
    3x shoulder stretch x2.
    5 alt cross stretch.
    3x knee rotate x2
    Repeat reversed.
    10x Arm fan
    Arm circles.

    You don't HAVE to do a full blown workout after this. A good stretch after this is really refreshing. This is a great warmup video for any workout type!

      Good warm up, I thought I'd try it as it's Getting cooler in the mornings in the U.K.
      However, it does miss ankles, and parts of the spine. So would recommend a few cat to cow stretches and ankle mobility (If going for a run or Zumba etc...)

    this is really intense and i’m so glad for that! in other warms up i’ve found they don’t rly quicken my pulse and then i find it harder to complete my workout. definetly doing this warm up again

    Great video! Thank you for sharing! I've always find it difficult to find good warm up exercises! Also just discovered you through Sarah and I started watching your videos! I really like how you explain things very clearly (no bells and whistles - just good simple routines)! I also like that you talk about proper form as you explain each exercise! Proper form is key!

    Legs gave out 2.5 minutes in :/ kind of demotivating, but I know I should keep going and try again. I'm a big girl so it aint easy, gotta hustle for muscle

    That’s a decent warm up! I train kickboxing most days and was looking for an easy warm up rondo in a cold garage to get my body ready...and this one works. Nice!

    Hello Nicole! I just did this warmup before doing a full body strength workout at 6am! I sometimes skip warmups or do my own super quick one if the workout does not include it but this time I wanted to do a good one! This was perfect! I love the faster pace so much!     I appreciate this warm-up routine lasting just 5 minutes. It does serve its purpose well. But I observe that the upper torso has not been given its due place of attention. Perhaps you can revise and republish another one soon on these lines.

      @@jyothidlable would love to see a fatloss vegan or vegetarian diet plan. They seem almost non existent! Whoever does one is going to make a lot of money and gain a wider audience. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I have reduced eating meat dramatically. I have not eaten meat since Feb and not really missing it but I have not given it up. I just wanted to see how I would feel etc. I do love vegan/vegetarian meals and many meat eaters do without realising. For example, quiches, cauliflower cheese etc. Yes. A meat free balanced diet would be great for newbies wanting to go vegetarian or vegan. I certainly would be taking part.

    What a great warmup. . . I feltso tenseand tired all day -didnt sleep much las night- but I wanted to do at least an easy walk. This warmup is what I needed. Thank you!! January 12, 2022

    i use it as a morning warm up before i do some minor strength exercises and my morning stretches :) i recommend it a lot! it takes me about 20min each morning, the amount of time i just used to sit and scroll instagarm tbh, but after a month of lworking out (non intense, i also started as a completely unfit person) i already feel so much change!!

      This was very beginner friendly, an typical moves you see in a warm up. If it helps watch the videos first and then do the exercise

      You could slow it down on settings to 0.75 and see if it works better

      Its a warm up..you're supposed to hurry for your heart rate to rise and then stretch

    I didn't have anything to balance with, so I couldn't do the knee rotations, but I managed everything else, which is good, because I haven't properly warmed up in years. I used to be very, very limber, but years of just not doing anything with my body has made it much harder. The jumping cardio was actually what I found easiest.
    EDIT: I do have a question though. For someone who really hasn't exercised in years what workout would you suggest for after this? I actually felt like I was ready to do more after this, but I wasn't super sure WHAT to do or where to start really.

    And also side split exercise i do after this exercise ..!!
