Man under a marques brownless video I pointed out that there wasn't a hardcore use case for a foldable phone I got utterly attacked by people claiming they "work on their folding phone" and one dude even claimed to do data entry on it.
And my reaction was "dude why do you hate yourself like that?" Doing data entry on a touch screen seems horrendous! Then people started saying "oh I carry a keyboard to use with it and a mouse" to which I said "well if you're doing that why not just carry a tablet or laptop"
My point is I'm glad this video said "yeah you need peripherals to be productive" because a bunch of foldable phone defenders tried to gas light me into thinking you can totally do full on desk work on a touchscreen 😂

The folding keyboard I carry with me to use with my Fold 5 is a lot smaller and lighter than a laptop. I carry a 3L sling - no laptop is fitting inside it, but my folding keyboard does. The keyboard has an integrated track pad so there is no need for a mouse (see BOW 318 Bluetooth keyboard).
The Fold is a portable productivity champ. I'm sorry you haven't had the pleasure to see that for yourself.

@@nickthaskater track pads are pretty crappy, but otherwise my point still stands. You aren't typing on the screen like that masochist claimed to be doing and I too can type with a portable keyboard on my pixel 7a or even better, on a 7inch tablet I already have. Let's me have room for the thousand bucks I didn't waste on a folding phone lol

Sir my girl jeans don't have pockets half the time anyway so I have a purse on hand. If I got a bag with me there's no reason not to just carry a superior 40% mechanical keyboard and a 7inch tablet.

    • @nickthaskater
      @nickthaskater 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@strayiggytv "track pads are crappy" - I have no issue using the trackpad effectively for work on the go. It's a lot better than carrying a mouse.
Your 7-inch tablet is a secondary device. I get to carry/own/manage just one that does everything. Add to that the additional weight/bulk of carrying the tablet and keyboard you mention, and you're completely off base from what's being discussed here.
My priority is maximum productivity with minimal carry. I have achieved that beautifully. Your priority is clearly different, which is fine.

I used to use a similar setup for writing at cafes and the like - iPad Mini, a Logi Pebble mouse, and a (what now is called) a Logi Pebble keyboard in a shoulder bag considerably smaller than yours. Since then, I've switched to a 13 inch iPad Pro M4 with the Magic Keyboard and simply bought a slightly bigger bag. For the not that noticeable bump in weight, I get more multitasking capabilities (the Mini doesn't have Stage Manager, which I enjoy using) and a much larger screen, and a single battery to manage. Plus, the keyboard and trackpad are quite nice, and essentially wired. It's also much better for drawing, which I also do on the go. The Mini is now my main machine for lounging around at home.

I have a patagonia sling, and use an 11" ipad pro, apple bluetooth keyboard, trackpad and a have a variety of cases that have a stand. doesn't need a fancy folding keyboard, i just bring the one from my desk :) I also have a moleskin ish notebook, and my bible (pastor - so mobile creative job). having the keyboard from my desk means i don't have to retrain key spacing. trackpad works on ipad fairly well, esp. cause I'm used to universal control.

Macbook with an iPad as a wireless self powered second screen. There are portable set ups that will elevate your laptop and make a keyboard available (logitech sells one) to use an external mouse and keyboard.
100% wireless. Easy and portable. If you have a macbook you likely already have an iPad. The logitech pop up desk pretty much solves everything else.
This isn't a thing that needs to be an ideal way to work for a 12 hour day. But, if you're in a hotel for a few hours in an evening it solves your issues and it's better than just a laptop.

Very cool. There is a lot of people hating on this. I happen to like that keyboard and have one myself. I have even thought of investing in the one with no numerics and a trackpad instead for even more portability. I think what people need to realize is that this is ultra portable and your bag is not going to fit any laptop or Surface Pro… That’s the point. Also, nothing says that when you are out and about you only have to use it in this manner. You can just whip the iPad Mini out and use it right there with nothing else. Very cool.

The keyboard reminds me a bit of the ThinkOutside Stowaway keyboard I first got to use with my PDA - probably 25 years ago! Im sorry, that folding keyboard sucks. I know because I have had one. Folding keyboards almost always suck. Will stick to my Surface Pro tablet and keyboard. Honestly, this whole video is a bit ridiculous. If you are willing to pack all of that up into a bag, then a Surface Pro or Apple alternative should be no problem. Include a mouse as even I can admit to wanting a mouse and call it a day. Throw the mouse in a pocket and hand carry the tablet of choice.

His whole channel is focused on productivity set ups. There are only so many times you can update it per year.
If you want to keep releasing content you would need to make convoluted/absurd desk set ups.
Here we have a very convoluted set up.
The algorithm basically demands frequent uploads. It’s not good for content quality.

But, if it doesn't work well enough, or if it isn't a thing you actually want to use you're just wasting money.
Here's a good litmus test. In a year or two is he still using this keyboard for anything? Like, not just a silly video like this (there's no way he brings this set up with him to actually do work .. this is 100% a content gimmick). Is there actual video footage of him using it? 12 months.

The Z Fold is perfect for this. It's virtually the same size as the iPad Mini when unfolded, and it's a device you already have on you at all times (it's a phone after all). I keep a BOW 318 folding Bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad and the same folding stand you have in my 3L bag and I'm good to go. No mouse needed, and the keyboard is easy to type on.
I tried the ProtoArc and found it way too bulky and the build quality was, as you say, flimsy. The end caps in particular are easy to shove in and it has awkward bumpons unlike the BOW I use (which has flip out feet).
Toss in the Nomad Slim 65W USB-C charger and you're ready for anything.

gpd win max 2(can be substituted for any 7840u or 8840u mini pc but the max 2 has a large enough screen to be usable in a desk setup), protoarc keyboard, protoarc mouse, gpd g1 portable gpu, ugreen portable battery, creative aurvana ace 2, and a backup set of wired iems like the truthear hexa or Sennheiser ie200. all fits in my bag, the advantage i have found using a mini pc instead of my ipad mini/ipad pro is mouse support and application support not being limited by ipadOS. The one thing i would like to add is a foldable portable monitor as i haven't found a portable monitor that fits in the bag, and it would likely need to fold but those also don't exist yet. If they did i'd probably change the gpd win max 2 for the gpd win mini to create more bag space for other things or keep the max 2 and just have a multip monitor setup.

Why would you bring the ProtoArc keyboard to use with the Win Max 2? The WM2 has an amazing keyboard. The ProtoArc is garbage next to it (I own a WM2 and have reviewed the ProtoArc). If you absolutely need a dedicated numpad, just bring an external numpad rather than a whole keyboard.

Logitech sells a desk on the go set up. Basically a keyboard, trackpad, and laptop stand. Super compact and fits together for storage. It’s basically all you need (that and a laptop).
So, if time to set up is the barrier … it’s virtually zero. The time it takes to pull it out of the bag and set down the keyboard and trackpad. And with a MacBook you can wirelessly use an iPad as a second monitor through sidecar.
That’s hours of work on the go. Dual screen set up. Solid keyboard and external trackpad. Minimal bagspace needed. Zero cables while you work.
Plus other people who have that keyboard in the video have commented and said the keyboard used here isn’t good.
