I loved your discussion and tip for cotton floss to lay even and straight. I have wondered how stitcher keep their thread straight and even while they stitch. I find my stitches look uneven and don't lay straight. I am definitely going to try this tip. You know, I would love to hear some of the other tips your teachers gave you when you took your classes. These are invaluable and Think others may be interested as well. The DMC Memorial Sampler is so beautiful. I remember when DMC and anchor would put in lovely free charts in the magazines. Sometimesthey need to be ordered. Yes, this dates me as well. 😊 Love your commemoration ideas for your mom. How lovely. And I really also loved the Whilst Iris.. sampler as well. I saw her floss tube explaining it and it was so good and her original is also gorgeous. Your quilting is just lovely as well. I( Need to find another word!!). But they are. It will be good to see your other projects in quilting on the wall as you continue with that hobby as well. This is a tome. I love your floss tubes! They are so homey and chatty. Thank you. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Always such a pleasure to see your videos. I love the "off the wall" segment. Thats what we all like is to see each others projects and their stash. I too learned the damp sponge from one of the teachers from a Spirit of cross stitch class and it works great especially using two floss threads. It also smooths the threads as some times the cotton fibers get a little hairy looking. I think the thread gets just damp enough when it dries in the fabric it locks its self in with the weave and tightens the stitches up. I too have never had a bleed issue but I am careful and will give the threads a damp test with a paper towel. Happy Birthday to you n your mom.

I started stitching in the 1970's and so wish I had continued like you did. Your DMC anniversary piece is stunning! I totally get what you are saying about your mortality, for I'm three years older than you. I'm not monogamous, but I do think about it too and can't imagine leaving behind many, many WIPs. When my husband passed away almost 20 years ago, I didn't remarry for the very reason you don't want to outlive your husband. My mother would have been 100 this July and I just finished stitching What Remains by Blackbird Designs in her memory.

Minutes ago, I was looking through my large stack trying to find a haunted house I knew was in 1 of my issues & sure enough there was the DMC 250th anniversary sampler. I took pictures to show you, but I don’t have your email. I just thought that yours was beautiful & then to flip through & find it hours after I watched your video was ironic❤️😂

I so enjoyed this video. Seeing your quilts and sampler on the wall is delightful. I especially like the bottom quilt. It looks like an easy pattern. I commented earlier but wasn’t specific. The Wishing Thorn did a floss tube about 2 back I think and she mentioned waxing of threads and it’s effects on the threads. I tried waxing as I want my thread straight and found I didn’t like it. But oh my your sponge technique! I am going to do it. I have used a glass of water on my table to dampen the floss but this seems much better. I have heard of women ironing their floss and that does not seem efficient use of time. Going to look for a container now and see if I have a new sponge. Also, June is my birthday month too. Mine is the 13th. Thankfully not born on a Friday but a Saturday and yes I have had to work for a living and at the age of 70 still work. And I love it. I am telling you this because I have just heard of a birthday start and want to do that for the first time this year. I thought I would start one with you but Mary Gypson is no longer available. But I have several to choose from and will begin it on my birthday. I will keep you informed!

    Your DMC sampler is beautiful.
When you were talking about Southern Illinois you must be talking about Arcola and Rockome Gardens. I lived in TX at the time but a couple of times I met my mom, daughter and a friend there. They went a lot for they lived in KY so it was close enough to drive easily. I was sorry when they stopped. Eileen Bennett happened to be our favorite to take classes from but there were others that were wonderful too. This was in the '90's. Lovely place to go abd Yoders restaurant was wonderful.

My Honey was very lucky and didn't have any lingering paralysis. He still has occasional balance issues, but considering he didn't get to the hospital till 3 days later, he's doing wonderful.

Judy! What a lovely video today! Well, they all have been, but you are a natural in front of the camera and I wish you lived in WA state so we could stitch together. Being the same age, we’d have plenty in common. I was wondering if in your years of stitching, you had ever stitched with the Ginny Thompson Flower Threads? And if so, if you might talk about them in one of your vids. They are supposed give an older look to a project like our grandmothers might have stitched with. My husband has ordered me a set for an anniversary present, so I’m excited to get them and try them.
Love your projects and the Off The Wall segment! Oh, and Rosie’s sampler is adorable - I’m sure she’ll do well in obedience training! Dogs love to please their owners! Till next time……..

Hi Susan, thank you for watching. I have used Ginny Thompson flower threads, but its been a while. They are lovely to stitch with and have a very soft appearance. I'll talk about them in my next video, and my "Stitching tips" segment. I think you'll love them. Happy Anniversary and Happy Stitching.

That is a great tip about smoothing the floss! I'll have to give it a try since I was a bit hesitant like you are about getting a coating on my floss. Since I enter quite a bit into the fair I am curious to see if it affects my entries in a good way. I love getting to sit and stitch while watching your videos.

You are such a beautiful stitcher, both cross stitch and quilting. I have a couple of questions. The quilt on the bottom of your ladder, when you quilted it, did you stitch in the ditch around the squares/rectangles? Or did you just let the meandering in the background be enough?
Cross stitch wise what do you recommend for sewing with metallic thread, the same water dampening process?
I guess that was more than 2 questions. LOL! Thank you.

      Let me answer your question....
      1. The quilt was professionally done, but she did stitch around the blocks first it seems, then meandered.
2.ive never tried the water dampening method for Metallics, since I don't think it would help. I have used a small knot to tie the floss to the needle at the eye to keep it from slipping off. That helps quite a bit.. Definately use shorter lengths of floss.
