    One point to consider before using the ‘MAX’ setting is if you have superheated sir inside the vehicle, you may wish to pull in outside air that while hot may be 20 or more degrees cooler than what is in the vehicle. I also suggest opening windows for a few minutes to do thus initial air exchange. After a couple of minutes at the most use the ‘MAX’ setting for A/C.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Put it on max then start driving windows down for the first mile to remove the heat load from the vehicle then proceed.

    • @coypatton3160
      @coypatton3160 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FordTechMakuloco 2 problems with that
      1) it could be hot enough in the car that you can not stand it, I have seen the greenhouse effect push interior temps close to 140 degrees
      2) you can stand beside the vehicle for a minute or so and exchange the air bring in exterior air and also remove any gases that may happen from heated plastics.
      But yes once the interior air temp is near the exterior air temp recirculate the interior air to cool that air. You quickly will be cooling cooled air.

    If you notice on some models the rpm's of the blower increases this is also one of the differences with AC vs max AC. Moves inside air faster.
    I use it once the inside air is cold and always on the expressway.

    I had an '87 F-150 that I converted to R134a. It wouldn't get as cold as it did on R12. When I would use outside air, I would get fog out the vents. The evaporator wasn't quite cold enough to condense all the moisture out of the outside air so it would come out as fog. So, I just kept it on max and it worked fine.

    Cooling the already cooled air in the passenger compartment is much easier than cooling the hot and humid air outside, as suck, the compressor can actually run LESS, placing less load on the engine, using less fuel. The only time I don't use the max ac function is on hit rainy days, fogs up the windows...

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the problem for me, it ALWAYS fogs up the windows. Maybe not right away but it will within 15-20 minutes of driving. The only way to fix it is to either not use the Max setting or to turn the heat up slightly which totally defeats the purpose of using the Max setting in the first place. I hardly ever use the Max setting because of the fogging issue.

    On my old 92 Civic, I had to run fresh air for the last ten minutes so the fresh air would blow over the evap and dry off any condensation. Otherwise it would smell horrible. I learned this from the dealer when I complained of the smell the first time soon after buying the car. It's the only car I've driven which had this set up....

    On hot humid days, when there is a limited population in the building I manage, I shut the outside dampers and recirculate the inside air as long as the CO. stays at an acceptable level . It takes a load off of the chillers.

    You could add that it is better to draw in outside air to the AC until the temperature inside the vehicle is at least as cool as outside. Sometimes your vehicle can be extremely hot to start with when sitting in the sun.

    Hey Brian, on my 03 Ex, with the selector knob, i think it also operates a vaccuum motor that shuts off hot water to the heater core. it is just on the other side of the firewall in the engine bay. At least I think thats what it does so you recirc already cold air and the environment in the hvac box isn't subject to heat soak from the hot heater core even if the air flow isn't directed over it. does that sound right?

      I know the question was posted 2 years ago but still is relevant now. I went thru that recently with my 04 5.4 f150. I researched it and determined that these type trucks do not have a cabin air filter. Neither does my 2000 4.6 F150. I just wonder where the crud is going. The 2000 4.6 A/C is still blowing cold with the original compressor 242K. Given Ford and others cheap parts and engineering now, its cheaper to keep her.

    Obviously you know I have the last generation Ford Crown Vic. An A/C video I'd love to see is one that shows us how to remove / clean (or) replace / and reinstall the cabin air filter. It took me a while to find mine and it's buried up under the dash behind that outside vent door which to me would mean removing the interior A/C unit and dash just to get to that foam filter which I know needs cleaning. Also, I'm having a bear of a time trying to locate the condensation drain tube. I don't know if it's plugged or not but the carpet on the front passenger side is damp and smells. I am sure my complaint applies across a number of different vehicle types within the Ford Motor Company.

    In your opinion how cold should the A/C on an 08 Expedition be blowing? This is my first year owning the car and at the start of summer our AC was blowing warm. I had 3 leaks fixed, the condenser and front condenser fan and a pressure switch replaced. The AC temp seems to fluctuate daily but it usually stays around 60 to mid 50s while idling and will eventually blow near 50 while driving. Our mechanic tells me that Fords don't blow as cold as GM's and on this year Ford its as good as it gets because its a small system. What do you think? Its a standard size Expy with dual and rear air.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      B Scott Well that depends on your climate if you are in Arizona summer heat I would say up to 55 at the vents is ok. If you have front and rear a/c you should be using both and using max a/c.

    Have you ever heard of the lights…well two lights actually the 1-2 and the 5-6 on the door key pad burning out with just 45,000 miles on my 2012 ford f150 platinum ecoboost truck as well as the heat is not coming through the drivers vents since 44,000 miles…I just find it strange that this truck is having these kind of problems with suck low mileage… I called ford about the heater problem, and they said it would cost around 1000.00 dollars to fix that problem… this has got me really aggravated since I really baby my truck…I normally drive my Acura, but still I don’t think I should be having these kind of problems this soon…also is that about the going price for the heater problem…they said a new key pad is around 70.00… thank you so much…

      D Nelson Ford recommends defrost mode which always is in fresh air mode they have their reasons behind it but my pick still to get all the moisture out of the cabin is to use recirc. In essence dry the air in the cabin that is partly dry already.

    I think generally speaking an ac system ( any) can reduce the input temp by 20 * or so max. So by reducing the input air temp you are multiplying your cooling power. I don't know where I pick that up or if it is correct or not..

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it's all about the heat load on the system.

    • @EPHRAIMrising
      @EPHRAIMrising 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      680ecks That's right only in the most general sense. Some manufacturers have charts you can look up with base values for the norms with outside ambiant temp vs temp at inlet vent. It can vary a little from Make to model. But 20 degrees flat isn't a rule to go by. Even if you're IN Arizona & it's 110°, your vehicle should definitely not be only cooling the air to a vent temp of 90°!!!!!

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some engines have a greater load than others when running the AC decreasing mpg's. Diesel engines are hardly noticeable in mpg's with the AC. Four cylinders get really pulled down. Higher torque engines don't use as much fuel running the AC. In fact my truck does better with the AC cause it runs lean anyways, turning on the AC, the ecm richens the fuel ratio compensating for the lean running condition. It really depends on the vehicle in mpg with the AC running... Imo.

    @Rgj_j 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually, at least on the Fords I own, the recirculation button/setting is different than the Max button/setting. Yes, the Max feature does turn on recirculating but it also speeds up the fan motor a step. I suspect this is to compensate for not having the forced outside air.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does not speed up the blower that is your perception because the door closed and the air source changed. Trust me if you saw the schematics you would understand.

    • @Rgj_j
      @Rgj_j 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FordTechMakuloco If what you say is true then what I perceive as as change in fan speed would happen when I press the recycle button, which it doesn’t. It only happens when I press Max.

    Kinda a related question : I got a 14 f150 xlt it doesn't have auto climate could I buy the dash piece . Is that the difference ,would that give auto climate or is it more complicated. Is the dash interface the controller or is it a difference in the computer . I was thinking it was the interface itself that puts out the vac or electronic signal to control the hvac system .

    • @FordTechMakuloco

      680ecks It would be way more complicated than that starting with the electrical connectors. Also you would have to find a dealer willing to put as built data from another vehicle into it.

    hi,
    do you have any videos on blend door removal / replacement for ford explorer 2005. I have seen videos where the bottom support of most doors in this model get damaged,
    I have found this piece in the glove compartment in my vehicle. I suspect the blend door is staying open as I can feel hot air coming thru the vents in the front. since I live in the desert region with temps at +45deg centigrade in summer, I never ever use the heater and I don't mind having the door locked to prevent hot air from getting in the car. Any Insight will be helpful.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      john benjamin Desouza These are known for the recirc door failing off and allowing full flow of air from the outside in especially in the extreme cold or heat you will feel it. Lower the glove box and see if you can see outside light

    • @johnbenjamindesouza9374
      @johnbenjamindesouza9374 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      FordTechMakuloco Hi, I cannot see outside light, thru the glove box. However since the ends of the recirc door are broken it would have fallen in the cage blocking the output from the blower motor. this probably explains the reduced qty of air on the window side vents. Is there a fix where I block out the AC inlet location below the wiper? thus no hot air comes into the car. should I use duct tape to block the inlet.

    98 Expedition, if I run max ac continuously I get a mildew smell the next time I run the ac. I've experienced this with other makes as well. If I use outside air it's fine. Any insight?

    U know what's better than a/c. I had a 87 f250 with the vent windows and a sliding back window u open both of them and it cooled down way faster than a/c. They need to bring back vent windows

      b52gnr I respectfully disagree about your ‘not when it 110’
      The faster you get the superheated air out of your vehicle, the faster the A/C system can cool the air.
      Which will cool quicker? 150+ hot air or 110 hot air

    if the max ac button does not change the position of the door, does that have to do with vacuum leak, or is it a faulty motor. the door under the passenger stays open so that outside air comes in and doesnt close when i press the max ac button.

    • @snoopdogie187
      @snoopdogie187 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That can be a few issues. These doors are either powered by an electric motor or they use vacuum from the engine to move the doors.
      The motors can fail, or the vacuum actuator can get stuck.
      There can be a wiring issue or vacuum lines can crack or break
      it can be the control panel not working correctly
      the door itself may be jammed and the motor/actuator is unable to move it
      and there is always just other weird issues that can happen

    Is that the same door that controls the floor and windshield air? I have a problem with mine. When I press the Defrost button air still comes out of the vents, but very little air comes out of the top dash.

    If you just run that on Auto, doesn't it also automatically go into "Recirc mode" (or Max AC if you will) when whatever conditions it looks for is met? I have a '05 Exp with the same AC panel and live in a hot sunny tropical country, and it seems when I start it after being parked outside that it goes into recirc mode automatically, and only drops out of it when the vehicle is cool enough.
    And I need to add a question, my rear AC seems to be running somewhat hot these days, not cooling well. The front main AC works well so the AC system is functioning. What I noticed is that the heat core in the rear is getting hot coolant circulating through it even with AC on, and I can't find any coolant cutoff valve like you have on the front heater core. Now, I could just disconnect the whole thing since I never have any use for heat in this country, but is there any cutoff valve or anything that shuts off the coolant flow to the rear heater core like it does on the front main heater core?

      Skauber Your temperature blend actuator has failed in the rear I have two videos on this on how to change both actuators back there.

    • @Skauber
      @Skauber 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      FordTechMakuloco Ok, so it doesn't cut the coolant flow to the rear heater core when in AC? I don't have that typical knocking sound from the actuator (already replaced the roof/floor actuator that had this sound), and it does get warm when turning the dial to hot, and then almost like ambient temp when turning it to cold for the rear. I'll have to take a closer look at the back, but I'm fairly sure the rear evaporator is getting cold as I do see the usual condensation water dripping from the AC drain above the tail pipe.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear a rattling sounds from the right and left tyres when I ran over small pumps or cat's eye on the tarmac.
      Is it possible that my front shock absorbers are damaged and need a replacement?
      Ford dealer in my country claims nothing unusual about them and their is no oil leak from them but I think they need to replace it.

    What's the difference between the "Max A/C" button and the "recirculate" button on the Focus/Escspe 08-11 area. I know they both recirculate the air but not sure what the difference is if there's one.

      I don't have an owners manual in front of me for that year, but on my '12 Ford Focus the recirculate button does what is shown in this video, and the "MAX A/C" button does that, PLUS turns the temp setting all the way down and puts the fan on high. Just a one-touch solution rather than turning all the knobs down separately.

    I have a 2009 F150 4.6L 3V. I have the push button AC controls.
    My question is that I noticed when I place the air flow selector knob to 1 I feel no air being pushed by the fan motor out through the vents. Is this normal?
    I'm still under an extended warranty and am taking the truck in next Wed, 29July, for routine work (driveshaft "thunk" ) and also plan to ask them for any/all software updates for the PCM and TCM and SYNC updates for the newer phones/audio since 2009.. Should I have them fix the blower selector or motor fan selector switch?
    Friend at work said that no. He says no air is normal at lowest selection because it will use the inside air flow generated normally and route that out. Honestly, the hairs on my eyebrow curled up a tad... His answer just didn't seem to pass the ole sanity meter test.
    Appreciate any advise and hope you can answer before next week wed. Thanks very much and Keep on Keeping On. Tell Alex he does an amazing job with the videos.

      Hawaiian F150 Yes there should be airflow at the 1 setting the fan is spinning although slow so the wet finger test is used to verify. Likely your resistor is failing get it changed.

      Went to dealer - they wanted to charge $120 an hour to fix the resistor even though I have premium care warranty. They also said the greasing of the driveshaft hub and adding the SYNC available update are not covered under the same Premium Care warranty. Replacing the driver shaft YES -GREASING a big fat NO. My warranty expires in 2K miles or July 7, 2016 if I don't add the 2K miles.

      @hawaiianf1504 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forgot to add that they estimated me 5 hours at $120 p/hr but weren't sure and it could be more b/c of the fan and the update for SYNC.
