It is our imperative to carefully analyze the emergence of such corrupt, criminal Buddhist priests and compare that with the historical political role the Buddhist temple and Buddhist priests/monks have played throughout the history, both in positive and negative contexts. However, I am not sure whether Thalduwe Somarama was a willing participant from the beginning or whether he was brainwashed or tricked to execute the assassination. Nandana is portraying an overall positive picture of Wimala Wijewardene here, which I think is a good thing, particularly when we put her in that political era and what she achieved in her four year stint as the health minister. Having a sexual relationship with corrupt Buddhist priest is of course put her character into question. The new information I've gathered here is that Mapitigama Buddarakkita's liking for beef as a "bite" for his regular whiskey drinking habit. We all knew about his alcoholism, but the addiction to beef is a new thing(at least for me). Compare that with the disgust directed at slaughtering cows in the general Sinhala Buddhist culture of the past as well as Buddhist clergy's disgust at consuming beef.
