I started using the 3m quick change double sided wool pad(6 inch ) for initial buffing using yer grampa's rotary. Nothing cuts as fast, and i don't make squat buffing, so I need fast. Then comes the Hercules dual action with foam pads for stage 2 and 3 . Sometimes i just stop at the machine polish and call it good
I think you made a good point about the coats of clear. One thing I read is supposedly the 1980s Volvos back in the days of lacquer paint jobs, put 10-12 coats of lacquer on, and those paint jobs were great because they could be polished out like that forever, compared to modern base/clear jobs.
Marco. You’re right. On my old accord. One of my first paint jobs only had 2 coats of clear and I had to cut it way down because it was in the garage, anyways few years later and it needed a paint job.
Yea I can't stress it enough you have to have enough material to be able to go ahead and cut it back down. Even two coats With smr42 which is one of the thickest clears on the market I don't feel ok at 2 coats. Some guys get lucky if it's a garage kept car.
im pretty sure you are doing what you are charging for/ getting paid to do,it looks good to me,those are not show cars in these vids, keep making great vids man,I enjoy them
Yes I agree. My blue civic I was aiming for more quality but the rest of the cars iv done this year were just scratch and spray clean up jobs. Very satisfying because it's like one week in and out and boom you have a fresh looking car.
That’s cool. Making a video of painting a car then able to make another video fixing the mistakes. Love this channel hope to meet you soon I’m a fan gonna have to get that Mark1 setup 🇺🇸
you should get yourself a cheapy harbor freight lift..you can put the car up at a good height and sand buff polish sitting down with comfort ..and are great for detailing the car inside or out
SPEEDOOO.....!!!!!!! was doing the exact thing last Friday..... had some pinholes (they are the worst) but all went well after a quick rotory polisher session
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 yea and that's the other reason cause at the time I was learning didnt have any money to buy a polisher and I was gifted that one. 6 years and still running like brand new changes the brushes onces
Marco. For a spray can job I would have left the run in it. 😅 Looks better than most guys using exspensive base clear for their paint jobs. Nice work as always!
Hello, I have another question yet again ,, 🤦🏼♂️. My question is , I’m painting a valve cover that’s sprayed with dupli-color engine enamel already that is silver ,,, Can I paint a acrylic enamel single stage paint over the top of it , or what do you suggest be the best option,, thanks
Hello, Thank you for this video! Very informative. I wanted to ask, as it's burning for me. How can you know by eye if the run is in the clear or in the base coat? On my car I have a run, and now I wonder: Is this the clear coat of base. A friend told me is like 99% clear, as the base is a thinner layer then the clear coat. So less chance of running.
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 Hey thanks! So I have a metallic blue. So if the run is is metallically then its the base. If the color looks the same then its clear?
side panels are less likely to fail from UV damage. I wouldn't worry too much about sanding a run on a vertical surface. It's mostly always the top horizontal surfaces that need thick clear coat. Keep a car waxed and sealed regularly, and the clear coat should have max life. I've sealed my car for 17 years, and it's parked outside 24/7 in socal, and the clear coat has not peeled off yet.
Runs are super!!!! Easy!!!! 1500 then 3000 then 5000.... know the 5000 is over kill but spectacular results 😊😊😊 easy to polish .. ...🎉🎉🎉 looks wonder i like it. I prefer.. rotory just old school and am just 28
TriggerMan the paint channel has a video on how to use a razor blade to scrape run out then buzz it with 1000 and so on. Thats how I do it with runs and big pieces of dirt before wet sanding. It helps knock down the bulk of the imperfections with out sanding surrounding area. . It sounds crazy. That car is a beautiful blue!
I dont like razor on runs when paint is still soft. Best thing ive seen is a tungsten cube. They cost about 100 dollars Australian. I am yet to try one out but i watched a video about it an was very impressed. I will be getting one as soon as i get back into spraying
@@edwardbayley1842 that's the issue iv ran into is that razor pulls pretty hard on the material. And one time I had the clear coat completely pull off the surface 😂
Yea honestly there was never any certified "ceramic coat " Installers before 2015. It was just detailing and if you wanted a really good buff everyone just went to a body shop. Times have changed 😂 you now have to be certified to apply some corny new type of wax.
@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 i really love your channel. Ive learnt alot from watching you also watch brian from ps and a few others including some custom Asian guys. Ive been a mechanic in Australia for 20 orso years. Always was trying to do my own touch ups and resprays. Having so many different teachers on youtube allows me to paint to every condition and when i do a job i can plan it out depending on what its worth and whos voice is going to guide me through the job step by step inside my head. I can now do most paint jobs with ease and have been doing some very impressive work. I can also work faster than most professional guys i know because i understand what corners i should and shouldn't cut depending on the results im trying to achieve.
100% agree! These companies are alllll about marketing! “Ohhh it’s a 5yr coating….you just gotta make sure to do a maintenance wash every six months with our signature ceramic booster” 🙈 So you’re saying it’s the booster that lasts 5 years 😂 It’s not rocket science! Pretty easy if it's a metallic color just look and see if there is a build up of metallic around the run area . Solid colors are where it gets tricky

I think with the tungsten carbide cube you can gently push scrape at the run and the flat holds it perfectly 90° to the panel
Id want to try it with a little dish soap on fresh clear

You can take a razor blade. And take a pice of tape on both sides. Lay it flat. And cut the run out. 😊
