I have been trying various brands of clear and base over the past 3 years and have got quite a few sags and runs in the clear. For me poor lighting is a huge factor in getting them. Your comment that you would rather push the clear and get a run than have a dry job is spot on and quite reassuring to a guy who only paints maybe 2-3 cars a year. You are the best!
I had painted an old car of mine. Single stage Centari. Metallic. Few runs. Friend who does nothing but buffs cars all day at a body shop. Buffed car for me. I had wet sanded car 1000-2000. Watching him razor the runs out and buff. Shows what thousands of hours of experience does. 😊. Excellent Kandy man.
Iam a paint stick guy myself the razor blade is good but I get the best results with 3m 800 wet dry on that little piece of wood good job kandy man well done!!!!!
You are one of the best old time painters on TH-cam I consistently learn by watching you. I too use razor blades to shave runs but going 90° to the sag I've never done...makes me want to run one to try it. I am using the mirka tungsten blade as well now works very well and never digs in. Great video and channel.
Great work buddy getting them out like that saves a re do and time and money.i have used the polyester putty method a few times over the years and does work pretty good on bigger runs as you don’t rub down around the run just the run itself:) keep them coming buddy love the updates 👍👍
Might be a silly question, but what is that wonderful red? The colour hue is exactly what I’m looking for for a motorcycle I’m doing. It’s also exactly right for an Alfa. 👍🏻
Thanks for vid. New learning is the pre sand so it helps bring out the run definition. I have a similar run in a door I just did so watching lots of vids. First one I’ll try to remove so thanks for your guidance. Confidence I can do this boost for sure.
I've cut runs with a razor blade before, and I have had the edge dig in a little more then I wanted as well, but I never though about sanding the edges off!
Hello thank you for the tip I've never tried a razor blade before.i know other painters who do this. If I ever get a run I use a old piece of a body file works well for me been doing it for years.
Good job. Since I use cheap clears it can be a challenge to get it hard enough. I put the bake light on it a few times. The putty method can map where it was and have to polish it again. It could just be on the clear.
Hi kandy man 👨 brilliant video thanks for sharing that i painted my ford focus mk3 front bumper the other day with base coat paint only used it a couple of times got a little run in the clear coat paint got a stanley blade and some wet and dry paper ready to cut and buff with 15000 grit and 2000 grit 3000 grit and polish
@@kandyman5315 HI GOT MY CAR BUMPER PAINTED AND ITS STILL NOT THE CORRECT MATCH THEN THE PAINT SUPPLIER MIXED UP SOME MORE AND USED A SPECTRO CAMERA ON THE CAR AND ITS A LITTLE DARKER THIS PAINTER SAID ANDY NEEDS A BLEND ON THE WINGS
@@kandyman5315 what would you recommend please scuff the wings with 600 grit DA sander and clear base coat blender and base coat paint and clear coat paint never done a blend before
I enjoy watching you. and am learning a lot. On a different topic of confusion for me...are the 3M PPS gun adapters specific for use on either a PPS Original or a PPS 2.0 cup and cap? Meaning I would hate to have to purchase both The Original and the PPS 2.0 cups and caps. Thank you.
@@kandyman5315 after asking you, I did a live chat with 3M. Was told from company rep that the PPS 2.0 kits should be less expensive. I also learned the difference in appearance of both adapters. ORIGINAL has a flat adapter surface and 2.0 has sort of wings and a small funnel shape. The Original cup has 2 clips to hold the adapter and 2.0 has 4 points to clasp cup. Unfortunately, before realizing the two are NOT interchangeable, or that there was any difference, I ordered adapters that are only for Original PPS. The company no longer makes Original PPS adapters and those don't have the "S" in the name. For the Kiwami4, I was told the #43 is the Original PPS Adapter and the #S43 is the 2.0 Adapter. Hope that info helps someone else out.
can you give a recommendation for a nice quality clearcoat? Finishing up a resto on my c10. lots of hours in it so i don't want to cheap out but dont really to spend above and beyond necessary. Color is gm wildcherry tintcoat. Ive already bought base and midcoat.(ppg shopline plus) I have ppg and axalta dealers nearby but Im willing to shop online too. Thanks in advance
I normally use the spot putty method. I've always been scared to do it with a razor. I also use the Perfect It 3 step process. Really good stuff, just expensive
first of all he is not an old time painter, i am an old time painter, go to h.d. and get a flat fine 1/2 inch wide cut it down to 3 inch bevel the edges and epoxy to a piece of wood, works great. on really big runs an old time metal file works wonders. I actually did that once on a cadillac door, it worked but had to respray as it was too slick. got to keep the orange peel even
Non razor blades for me but I do have same file So I file them an dry block with 800 grit water block 1200 an buff wool pad yellow bottle compound then switch to black and black foam and blue sometimes
Hell yeah, we all make mistakes, we are human, but killer save! Life is learning. I learn daily from guys like yourself and others. I surely don’t know it all, and learning the little tricks, makes the work life easier!

Thanks for making my wife’s boss’s car look better than pre-loss condition. I tried to find that run after you removed it and couldn’t. Nice job bro.
It's what we do. Thanks for the support

Your Videos are very informative with no personal attitude like some other paint/body work content creators. Thank you for all you do.

Fantastic video, thank you for putting this together. I have a clear coat sag on my golf cart body, I will use this method to resolve it.
That Alfa Romeo looks fantastic. Great job! And thanks for sharing this - I’m using it shortly. 👍🏻

Very nice job! I just got runs in clear that make me want to sell every paintgun I own! Nice tip taking the edge off the corners of the blade. :)
Glad I could help!

I love cc 200 by Sherwin Williams or 8152 by ppg they are not cheap but worth it to me

Yellow tape on both side of blade to hold also leaves a small air gap not to dig in by mistake.
👍👍
How many coats of clear are on the car?
Two coats

What was the first buffing wheel you used on the mini buffer
Yellow or white first step foam
Isn’t it best to repaint it.The orange peel will not match .They removed a run on my door now part of the door is too shiny
Removed right and blended in will look good
What kind of gun do you use for base coat and what kind do you use for clear coat?
3m performance gun for base clear iwata and dv1
