    Nice video! That's a really handy tip using the razor blade. I remember those little 'nib' files mounted on the small wooden blocks like those sanding blocks you used. The ones I've seen were mostly made in England or Germany, but I think they're all over. Eastwood used to sell them a long time ago.

    When I lived in the hood, there was a Jamaican dude in the back that rented a small garage and did paint jobs for the neighborhood.
    Actually my landlord waa my xlose buddy, and we would hang out back there.
    Well, one day albert the painter musta been blind while spraying clear on a ram pickup because there must have been about 20 runs down the bed side ,like 6" long. 😂
    Thays when i mentioned " i saw this razor blade trick, youve got nothing to lose albert"
    We scraped for a couple hours ,he wet sanded a litrle and in the end it came out pretty good.

    Great work, runs and sags are a pain in the butt, especially as you can't really charge for your labour time spent fixing them, I've reduced the risk by only opening my fluid tip by two full turns and thankfully I'm still getting a good finish but I accept that system may not suit everyone

  • @davehowland5270

    Good to know there is going to be a lot of this in my future. I have an off topic paint question I just bought a project truck and it has many touch ups done with spray cans do I need to sand all of this off before doing a base coat clear coat or will primer sealer or epoxy primer handle it?

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well... I guess the best answer is "it should" but... if it is in really good condition and the guy who did it, used the correct procedures then you DA sand and prime right over it. Just check it out really well. If the paint is not peeling, chipping, etc., you could probably get away with priming over :)

    Here's an improvement to the razor blade method taken from cabinetmaking. Take the razor blade and chuck it into a vise, then take a round shafted screwdriver and push over the edge of the blade in one direction with the round rod making a burr. This is how cabinet scrapers are sharpened. If you want to get a visual idea of what I'm talking about look up on TH-cam sharpening a cabinet scraper. This tool will now cut much faster than just the standard single edge razor blade alone and takes only 30 seconds to make. It's much faster and works great.

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  ปีที่แล้ว

      So you will use it in only one direction now right?

    • @satamanschmidt3428
      @satamanschmidt3428 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LakesideAutobody Correct. You want the burr in the direction of travel to scrape off the run. I also put a small bend into the razor blade so that the center of the blade is the first part to hit the run and to prevent the edges of the blade from digging in. When my best friend opened a bodyshop business I made several of these for him and put about a 1/4" of tape on each side/edge of the blades. I told him I was giving him "training wheels." I picked this trick up from Kevin Tetz who made the Paintucation Videos. As you get more comfortable with the scraper blades you can eliminate the "training wheels."

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@satamanschmidt3428 I've heard of using the training wheels - never tried it though. I'll keep this in mind and give it try next time I get a run - which won't be long probably🥴 Thanks my friend - have a good week :)

  • @craigdreisbach5956
    @craigdreisbach5956 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wonderful video. I was certain that the last step was going to be applying a clear coat finish. Little do I know. I notice you used a lambs wool pad initially. Do you feel this is always a better alternative than the foam versions that Harbor Freight sells? Can you wash the lambs wool and reuse it? Kind Regards. Craig

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  ปีที่แล้ว

      The one I use is old. You can keep using them over and over - just run a screw driver over the pad while the buffer is running after the compound and polish dries. They make a pad cleaner like with little star wheels but an old screw driver works just as well. I think I show it in one of my buffing videos :)
