I remember being foolish and starry-eyed when Kaldheim came out. I just assumed the bundle would have snow basics in it so grabbed one just for the convenience of getting my snows.... ....I don't buy bundles anymore, they're lost their spirit :(
I dont think it's good justification, but wizards refuses to after people hoarded battle for zendikar bundles for the full art lands, I think now that full arts are so available that's not a problem
If you're interested in this game these videos are very informative. I have seen some of these booster packs at gas stations and until now I never realized they were double the price of other stores. If you have the money to spend on a game would you rather have the best value for your buck or are you just going to randomly purchase any product that is presented? Yeah you can be critical of how he breaks down the numbers but at the end of the day it's simply a hobby if you don't like the game then you don't have to play it. Magic has been around forever and I don't see it going anywhere in the near future and judging by the other knock off games like hearthstone many games are still trying to imitate number one.
This is what pisses me off so badly. Just switching the packs to set boosters while keeping the numbers the same would have cost WotC literally nothing in terms of production costs. But oh no, we can't have the players get a tiny bit of extra value for the same price. It's the same with pre-con decks and Masters-set-like products. This open display of greed has cooled down my desire to buy sealed product by a lot.
Professor, you hit the nail on the head. My wife and I used to do a quasi-sealed against each other with these bundles (augmenting with a theme booster or something). I can only communicate with WotC using my wallet, so I'm giving bundles like this a hard pass.
Exactly the same situation here. I might have considered it if they came with a bunch of the new full art lands but they don't even have those in them. Hard pass
I'm in the same boat (though with my brother). I am however gonna get the innistrad bundles because I love innistrad but after that I think I'm out. For Midnight hunt we tried doing bundle and buying a full set of commons (1 of each) and trying to do nearly-sealed like that. It worked ok, but we did get sort of "themed" since over half of the set booster cards were red. Gotta love that luck of the draw :D. Though this drives the price to roughly equal to 12 draft boosters, from my LGS anyway.
I do the same thing with girlfriend and was very disappointed to only see the change in the bundle contents *after* I had preordered it. I ended up also getting a set of 3 draft boosters and we are hoping that, by mixing all of the boosters and doing a Winston Draft, the changes from draft to set boosters won't complicate things too much (not very optimistic though!).
I'm actually kinda upset we didn't get a poster this time. I really like these posters. I have a bunch of them on my wall, its most of the reason I buy a bundle each set
I use to buy bundles and they would give you a book that showed every card in the set. When I went back finally this year to buy a bundle it had no book. Was kinda disappointed, it the only reason why I wanted the bundle really, wanted a book so I could see all the cards inn Modern Horizons 2.
@@nolimitbanks7318 I remember those days. I remember buying a Lorwyn bundle and getting the packs, the booklet with all of the cards, and the Lorwyn paperback novel. Times have really changed.
It’s these little things they do thinking they are saving money printing..they’re already making out like bandits putting 8 packs of 12 cards (96 cards) versus 10 packs of 15 (150 cards)…
When I was a wee magic player back in 2009 the set booklet was my favorite part of a fat pack. So much fun lore and the card gallery was actually useful before that information became easy to find online. I remember looking at those booklets for hours as a kid.
I wasn't a kid in 2009 (I was 29 at that time ^^) but for me it was also one of the best parts of the bundle. You got a bit of lore, you got the full sets cards, you got a section where you could indicate which cards you had and how many. It was awesome added value.
I loved the booklet! Not as good as a full on novel, but I bought some of them (above what I probably would have to support my lgs) just for the booklet and packs.
Ha funny! I asked Mark Rosewater the question why they discontinued it or if they will come back. He said that the market research showed that people did not value them and it was a lot of work buyers/players did not appreciate :(
I still don't understand why every magic product doesn't come some area codes. It would get so many more people playing arena, and getting people in the door is the most important thing for games of that style.
I love the oversized spindown, I collect them, and this one is especially cool. With that said, Prof is right, my glow in the dark spindown and all the singles I want out of this set will cost less than a booster box.
Got to say, if they started putting the stand-out basics of a set into the bundles, they would find a lot more buyers. I know Kaldheim snow lands would have drawn me to buy a bundle and Innistrad full arts would have gotten me as well.
I don't know why, but the "poster" now being a cut out and the box that's just filler REALLY pushed me over the edge. I was already rambling at the screen about how they could just make the poster smaller & not have that box, but the poster is now just trash too, so why not just wrap the actual card box with the packs in it & *just fucking sell us that!!!!* A pack of the full art lands would also be a great incentive for people to buy this instead of 8 packs, if they don't already care about the box or spin-down. 6 Draft, 3 Set & 1 Collectors booster is an amazing idea.
@@_Minecraft_ASMR I use them to store bolts and various small car parts that are easily lost. But idk what magic related you could store in here. A bag is 10x more functional for dice. Then again I haven't purchased a bundle since Eldraine.
The concept of “upgraded prerelease kit” would be amazing since many Magic players used to play supercharged prereleases using their Bundles, but that’s not possible anymore.
Still possible, just meh because set boosters are “themed” which would probably make deck building easier and less fun. Why can’t they just be normal boosters with fewer cards?
I bought a bundle just for the spindown. It's beautiful. Glow in the dark and orange numbers! My fav. I'm an absolute Halloween fanatic and this set really resonates with me. I just wish the werewolves were more powerful and better represented.
That's what I'm wondering about since they do the alternate art lands on a regular basis. People would buy several bundles to get enough lands. With the current system you just support the second market.
I was very disappointed when I bought it and found out the land pack wasn’t all full arts. I’m newer to Magic so I just kinda thought werewolf cards and it’s spooky season let’s goo lol the dice is pretttty cool though
seems like everything has been moving away from physically printed manuals and other items, which might make sense for video games, but is a very weird choice in a game about printed pictures and words on paper
In South Africa, set boosters are exponentially more expensive and, from my experience opening them, they don’t hold the value you pay for. The reason I purchase the bundles here is because it was cheaper to buy one of these than it was to buy x10 booster packs. It felt like I was getting mad value as it came with the cool storage container and a sweet dice. As someone who enjoys cracking packs, I loved the ‘extra’ boosters. Having cracked one of these bundles, I felt totally underwhelmed.
Fellow South African here, and the "higher value" magic products are definitely exponentially more expensive. I also prefer the previous type of bundle
@@jarydgrobler9526 I have even forked out some dosh for the collector’s boosters and I don’t know why there isn’t more of a reward for spending the big bucks. Like, why are you even giving me SO MANY commons and uncommons? For that kind of premium product there should be tons of benefit.
Thank you Prof for reminding me and everyone else about the novels they put in there. I remember when I got my first Timespiral "Fat Pack" with nice strong Storage Boxes, cool dividers, boosters, a dice and the novel with the beginning of the time spiral story. Back then it was around 30-35€ which really was a bundle in your terms: you got a lot for a good price and as a beginner I was delighted to have so many new and cool things. Love your content as always and lots of love from vienna!
Same price for less cards always makes me feel iffy for wanting to buy one - bundles always seemed like a pricey sealed investment, but now you can't use them for sealed/2P drafts? Seems like a rough change to me.
I miss the novels that used to come in these. That's what got me hooked back then. Now its I'm buying these just for the art on the storage box and this over a booster box so I get the same "high" when opening packs, but at a cheaper cost.
Honestly, I think it’s a bit of a waste. If you want an MTG novel, absolutely buy one. But with how people grab these just to crack packs or use them for box openings videos on TH-cam, I think it would just be a waste if they had one. I do miss the player’s guides. I’ve bought one bundle since they cut those and only because I was itching to crack packs.
Honestly I buy bundles for the dice. The rest are a nice additive... I've been buying bundles since Mirroden Besieged, the boxes are awesome and sturdy. Personally I will continue to buy at least one per set that comes out because I collect the boxes.
@@baconbenjidestroyer oh absolutely. If the dice ever go back to being what I can get in a pre-release kit then I'll try to pick up the box on the secondary market.
For me personally, I would have happily bought 2 or 3 of these bundles with no complaints whatsoever IF they had just included 40 of the full art lands from the set. I wouldn't have even cared if they were foil or not.
Just a note on hello fresh, Workers there are trying to unionize and hello fresh is resisting it, reach out to them and tell them you support their workers!
So glad you reviewed this. I was tempted to get it but the C grade made me reconsider. I do wish they did make it more diverse in content, re: several of the different types of booster packs.
I wonder what the math is, if you average the value of rarity groups from the set using the singles market, against the slots they can be found in? Basically, what is the real, averaged value of a set booster compared to a draft booster? I'd like a video on that distinction.
It feels like booster set packs have less uncommons in them in general. So may affect prices. There's only a change of getting better then usual odds after all Really don't like the set booster packs atm.
I agree with your assessment. I use the boxes to store the cards from each set that I open from my set boxes, so I will probably be buying 1 eventually, but fewer packs, lands not matching what's in the packs, and no book/let is just lowering the desire to buy them exponentially.
@@fluff0000zz the whole box that holds everything is what I meant it used to be two stacked on top of eachother each could hold about 500 cards so they were really nice for organizing cards
I used to buy Bundles to get my set collection going, as I'm collecting the basic lands and commons of every main set. So I would get a bundle, maybe have some nice rares in the boosters and then buy the missing commons or trade for them. The dice are usually quite nice and the bundles have foil lands, but since I learned that all commons and basic lands of a set cost less than 5€, I switched to just buying complete sets on the secondary market.
I got Meathook Massacre, Sigarda Champion of Light and Rockfall Vale from the main set and then Animate Dead and Balefire Dragon from The List. Huge, huge value. All together about $75 from a $34 bundle.
Oh hell yeah, for a slight increased price I'd love to see a bundle packed with a variaty of usefull items as: - different booster packs of the current set: 6x draft, 3x set and 1x collectible (love that idea prof!) - land pack (amount and sort of lands as well as foiling is debatable) - token pack of needed tokens the set asks for - 60 sleeves with a set motive (and maybe 60 inner sleeves) - spin down dice or life counter wheel - the package at the inside could include some cut out counters for the set themes
I adore the new packaging. Being able to make the mask was a really cute addition. I’m sure the newer bundles maybe won’t have that, but it did help tip the scales for me to cave and buy. The glow in the dark die, the deck box, and the paper wrapper, the things that really aren’t worth the price tag, we’re what helped me buy. Am a little ashamed.
6 draft, 3 set and one collector pack is such a good idea! Friends can play a sealed tournament and some or all the packs can be the prizes! It makes too much sense and wouldn't be insulting which seems to be the deciding factor in Wizards decision making...
I would only buy this for the glow-in-the-dark spin down and the storage box. I would probably only buy one. Unless I could find somebody willing to sell the spin down to me. That I could do without the storage box.
I used to love buying the ol' fat packs with two boxes. They were great to put bulk cards from set/block in storage, especially when I used to draft more or buy a draft box. Now you only get one box (though it is nicer in design) and a couple packs more. I feel like they could sell these like hotcakes if they took any of your ideas mentioned (full art lands, keep the 10 packs, variety pack types) in this video. Should easily be able to keep it at the same or similar price. The glow-in-the-dark die was a nice touch, though.
I just had a conversation about the entertainment complex where I work dialing back/leaving dormant certain elements of the guests' overall experience. The problem is that some people show up for A or B and others prefer C or D and even those who only like E will take advantage of B as long as they're here. The point is that if C or F aren't there because "it's not making enough money" should be irrelevant because it's all about the total experience. As the conversation progressed, I began to have a sense of deja vu, but I couldn't remember what product or service that was the subject of a previous conversation. Quite randomly, this video showed up on my feed and now I remember. "Fat Packs" have been getting slimmer and slimmer. Prof presents a lot of good ideas to refresh the idea of Bundles. I like having themed accessories way more than booster packs. I can get packs anywhere. However, if you must include them, a variety of boosters would be nice.
I absolutely adored the bundles, bought one for nearly every single set for the last three years... The change to 8 set boosters over 10 draft boosters killed all my excitement in this product. I did sealed with those boosters quite often with friends, now I can't, and even without the drafting potential I just dislike cracking set boosters over regular ones. Guess I'll be buying the glow-in-the-dark dice by itself since the dice are still my personal favorite parts and ignoring the actual bundles unless they design to change them back/to something better.
I liked buying bundles to make sealed decks at a better rate per pack than individual boosters. I can’t help but feel really disinterested in them now that they’re set boosters.
Prof mentions nobody drafts with these bundles but I did. When I was 15 I opened some kind of mythic out of a pack and sold it for enough for a bundle. Me and 2 of my best friends opened and drafted the bundle and it was our first time ever playing with the set. It was ixalan or rivals if I remember correctly. It was one of my first times drafting and my favorite magic memories so I do miss old bundles.
Back during RtR block all the way through Khans block, my friends and I almost *always* used Fat Packs for draft. Coming in sets of 9 packs meant each one fed 3 players, so you could get 3 and have an 8-person draft with leftover prize boosters, plenty of lands, and storage for the chaff. Especially since you saved a bit of money doing it that way
I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but the mask was a fun activity for me and my toddler. I cut the pieces out and he got to organize where everything went! I got to crack some packs and entertain my son for an hour or so!
Thanks for the video. I like your idea about bundling different boosters in a bundle. This would be awesome. I also remember the stories/short novels that they were adding. That was really cool to read about the world and adventurers of heroes/plainswalkers.
I thought the title said "Is it worth it to buy a Magic: The Gathering Book?" for some reason, but I think the prof would do a great job giving book reviews
I bought my nephew a $60 pack for his birthday which came with 3 decks. I don't remember the name of it but one of the decks was about squirrels and other cards were half cards where half of it would be a tiger and another car that you can combine. Anyway long story short it's been forever since I played magic and he has already been into it. Having 3 different decks to play along with all the interesting interactions interactions was A-blast. Some of the cards required you to be really loud and vocal and other cards required a bit of shadiness for them to work. What really impressed me with this game was the amount a person can learn through strategy strategy and other tactics. He is about 12 years old and it was very interesting watching him learn tactics and also how incredibly deceptive he could be at certain times. All in all it was the gift he plays with most. A fun experience too.
When it comes to packs, nothing beats playing drafts at your lgs with the ability to maybe win more packs than what you paid to draft. Otherwise, buy singles. Bundles not including full art lands even makes that decision even easier.
Im still waiting for the day when wizards step ups his extra products and makes things like pokemon does, not just bundle, just giving a code for a free arena pack in each booster would be such an upside
Thanks for this video, as usual it is 100% spot on I would like to share my opinion about the current situation regarding set boosters: I have the impression that with pushing set boosters WotC is increasing the price two times on its customers. One time honest and open and a second time in a more devious way. I always have had the 'ritual' of buying one bundle and one display for each set released. On top of what you mentioned (8 packs instead of 10, set boosters instead of draft) I also have the feeling that within set boosters certain cards are appearing at abnormal rates. I am talking about cards who have the special art treatment (at common and uncommon). Basically normally when I buy these products it is rare to have certain commons more than 4 times, it happens but it is rare. When I bought this time a bundle + a display (set boosters) I noticed that certain cards would show up 10 times where other commons and uncommons were pretty rare. I have a feeling that they made certain cards show up more often, most likely because they have the set-art-style. (examples: Tavern ruffian or Tirless Hauler)
I do really like the idea of the redesign, and, as someone who actually got a box that they screwed up with that had 10 packs, it was actually a rather great deal with 10. If it was just 8, I'd have to say otherwise.
Same brother, at first I was skeptical to buy an Innistrad bundle bec of the " now with 8 set boosters" packs that it stated on the front cover..but I prayed to GOD very willingly and he listened upon the heights of the morning sky and a lady on the front counter of Barnes and Noble brought me a pack that had $50+ dollars of value inside of it and not 8 but 10 booster packs! I almost flipped out when I actually saw 10 packs and now am thankful to GOD for everything.
I got my bundle for $35. I like they are set boosters now instead of draft boosters. I'm not interested in playing draft. Also I rather get more uncommons and rares than the bulk commons you always end up with when you buy draft boosters. At this price tag it gives me the fun of opening packs without needing to buy a box. Then on the money I save I can buy singles. ;)
I bought one of these as a new player to paper magic and I think the professor was spot on. The box is nice for all my new commander cards and the draft I did on release.
If I'm being honest, I'm going to wait until WoC decides to start selling the Innistrad Deck Builder Boxes. I bought two during the last series (bought in 2020 but the cards were from 2019,) and that was a much better deal than what this bundle has to offer (sans the life counter, that is.)
I am new to magic and got my first innistrad midnight hunt bundle, I got a renn and seven just like you did.! Well worth it... Made my first midnight hunt deck of just this bundle..
Was genuinely going to pick up one of these before I learned they've cut the boosters from ten to eight. 6 regular, enough to draft with, three set and one collector would be perfect. So sad WOTC is scrimping as much as possible.
Most people may not have used bundles for draft, but I sure did. When I would set up a draft at home, I would buy up a bunch of bundles simply for the included storage boxes (for obvious reasons) and land packs (to keep my Vorthos brain happy.) Ah well. I'll just buy lands and boxes on the secondary market when I want to set up a draft. No big deal. I hope the Bundle product improves. Even ignoring the bad deal and price hike, I have no use for set boosters. Zero reason to buy this.
I almost bought a bundle at my LGS yesterday. Decided against it because I never feel satisfied with the purchase. I took that money and bought a commander deck. That's the only decent value sealed product WOTC offers at this point, and barely so. After their run of $20 decks that were still fun and functional, paying twice that feels bad.
New player here, and you're absolutely right that it's great for people just starting their collection. This is my second set since I started, and it FEELS a lot more fun to open set boosters, getting way more art variant cards and providing storage, which is something I have none of. But when it comes to math, obviously the answer is always buy singles.
I'm new to MTG, learning the rules is a pain in the arse but I'll do it. Having my wallet abused and traumatised by greedy companies is what makes me walk away from things i.e videogames
Same dude, a lot of video games started losing my interest when they became "games as a service" that maximize time and money spent over fun. I want to get into MTG, but I hear a lot of bad things about WotC penny pinching customers, QA, and supply issues. I started playing/collecting Pokemon TCG in 2016, but got bored of the gameplay and lost interest by 2018. I have the TCG itch though. KeyForge (my current go to) only partially scratches the itch.
As someone who has only been playing MTG for a little over a year I have bought a few of these, I love the feel of opening new packs of cards and the set boosters in Midnight Hunt were more fun to open than the previous draft boosters in bundles. That being said I didn't purchase this one for myself but got it as a present, and I think that's where the real value of these bundles is now - present suggestions for family members. I've got a few to use the storage boxes for spare cards, and the dice are fun to collect, and while the boosters are fun to open they're not an efficient way of getting playable cards, so I'm already at the point where I only buy singles and commander precons for myself.
I always get hyped opening Set Boosters; they're so much fun! However, the fact that you get 2 fewer packs just makes this whole redesign smell rotten. Papa Hasbro really knows how to ruin our excitement.
While buying singles is the way to go, I still love cracking packs so I often bought a bundle for each set as a happy medium between single and a booster box. I'm glad I got this heads up before wasting my money
My roommate and I got a bundle because we love the dice they make for them, and when we opened the box we had ten set packs somehow! Was a fun surprise
Prof: Plz review difference between less and fewer, you get fewer packs not less packs. It's maddening to hear you making this mistake over and over again.
I just bought two prerelease kits this time around. I've found Innistrad kits fairly cheap by just waiting until this week to buy them. As a bonus, I have two MTGA accounts I play regularly so that's 6 additional packs for each of them :)
Should be noted that there are inconsistencies with the bundles. There are bundles with 10 set boosters, instead of 8. I happened to get one of the bundles with 10, and paid a little below retail on release day. So I was happy with the purchase.
If somebody were to start a petition for Bundles to come with 6 draft packs, 3 set boosters, and a single collector's pack (as the Professor suggested), I would gladly sign it!
Greetings , Professor. A rookie Taiwanese player and semi-collector here. I'm suffered by some sort of mental illness for years , I've been drained too much to construct my EDH , casual 60 cards decks or even a sealed 40 cards deck for over half year. Well I still purchase products from my LGS and watching "is it worth to buy..." series at home , the gamble itself kinda makes me...Uh...Idk , transform to a normal person for just few minutes? Then flip back to a 0/1 bulk lol. And I'd like to collect pre-constructed deck , although some of them were graded-low but I still love pre-cons!! Even just a pair of mono- color welcome decks. So now I'm in a journey of seeking cheap pre-con decks and fat packs(Bundles) to fill my collection up. Thank you for making these videos as reference for "to buy or not to buy."
I popped one and managed to get a full art foil of one of the new land cycle and also a full art of another in that cycle. Also got a Tainted Adversary. I was impressed. Obliviously there is luck there but the art on the box and the glow in the dark die really felt like I didn’t really waste my money.
I think its important to note that the value may change in different countries. In Australia you're actually saving $20 AUD (around 25-30 USD) on set boosters when buying a bundle. That's essentially two extra boosters, plus the extra bundle stuff for the price of six set boosters
Wow I hadn’t heard of these changes yet. This actually really does bother me as bundles have been the best way for my friends and I to have two person Winston drafts and still get good value (I find personal value in the box, poster, and spin down). This completely guarantees that not only will I no longer purchase the only bulk item from Wizards that I personally find value in, but they will be receiving less money from my friends and I, since we’ll be buying individual packs. I get that we’re likely the minority of purchasers here but over the past year alone they have continued to make changes and release products of lower and lower value that mean I essentially have no need to purchase physical cards outside of the secondhand market. I suppose they still have my Arena money, but quite frankly I don’t spend more than $20 every month or so there because I don’t have to. I’m sure my soapbox is purely anecdotal and has a small scope in comparison, but I can’t imagine how they can continue making decisions like these and expect to be profitable outside of taking advantage of those with gambling habits.
Damn, I was actually really hoping they'd do a cool werewolf poster with the wrap-around packaging for this one. I've been loving the fact they brought the posters back. I'm also disappointed about the lands not being full-art. Thanks for a great vid, Prof! You rock, as always.
I really loved the idea you put forth with a bundle having 6 draft packs, 3 set packs and 1 collector's booster. It wouldve been so cool to buy this and have a sealed Tournament among friends with the prizes being the other packs, and you decide if everyone is wagering the collectors booster, the 3 set boosters, or all of it. I don't buy Magic products anymore because of this company being really anti consumer, but I would have made it a tradition to do this sealed with my playgroup at least once per set if they did it your way. I really can't believe how awesome something like that sounds.
4:39 yes Prof I feel the same way. Asking Mark Rosewater on tumblr he said that market research shows that the players did not like them. Maybe they should ask again ;)
I remember when I got the fat Pack back in Odyssey - it only had a 3 boosters and the "Tournament pack", but it had the novel and the set guide included.
Imagine if these bundles had the full art land bundles. Such a miss.

This was a reason to grab the bundle. Now its gone. Thus this is no longer a bundle but a slim pack. A random number of booster a box and a huge dice.
I loved the booklet! Not as good as a full on novel, but I bought some of them (above what I probably would have to support my lgs) just for the booklet and packs.
Ha funny! I asked Mark Rosewater the question why they discontinued it or if they will come back. He said that the market research showed that people did not value them and it was a lot of work buyers/players did not appreciate :(
@@Morrodin182 same u could see what u need and now u could looked online,I rather a booklet then dice lol
Adding Arena codes to the bundle woul dramatically increase the value for me.
I still don't understand why every magic product doesn't come some area codes. It would get so many more people playing arena, and getting people in the door is the most important thing for games of that style.
@@LadyBernkastel92 exactly! Pokemon puts an online code in every pack.
Because then they can't double dip into your wallet
And, I currently have no real way to access Arena.
So those code's are less than the additional dice box for me.
@@Paulthored Nahh, nobody is buying that dice. There'd be a whole market for your Arena Code.
I love the oversized spindown, I collect them, and this one is especially cool.
With that said, Prof is right, my glow in the dark spindown and all the singles I want out of this set will cost less than a booster box.
I REALLY like the 6 draft packs, 3 set packs, 1 collector pack idea.
I was already rambling at the screen about how they could just make the poster smaller & not have that box, but the poster is now just trash too, so why not just wrap the actual card box with the packs in it & *just fucking sell us that!!!!*
A pack of the full art lands would also be a great incentive for people to buy this instead of 8 packs, if they don't already care about the box or spin-down.
6 Draft, 3 Set & 1 Collectors booster is an amazing idea.
The box that's just filler has been with these bundles for year. This isn't something new.
I can sell you additional spin downs for only $30 each, it's a great deal
I’m not planning on spending money on Magic for a bit, but if these came with a pack of full art lands I would have, no question. Really does suck.
Especially these dark/night full art basics
That's what I'm wondering about since they do the alternate art lands on a regular basis.
People would buy several bundles to get enough lands.
With the current system you just support the second market.
I was very disappointed when I bought it and found out the land pack wasn’t all full arts. I’m newer to Magic so I just kinda thought werewolf cards and it’s spooky season let’s goo lol the dice is pretttty cool though
the full art lands are beautiful. i got one of each with doubles and foils in the bundle
I REALLY miss the set booklet. Uses to kill time brewing decks with the booklet. I know I can go online but it just isn't the same.
Exactly. The best part of the bundle
seems like everything has been moving away from physically printed manuals and other items, which might make sense for video games, but is a very weird choice in a game about printed pictures and words on paper
I was absolutely going to get a bundle of Midnight Hunt until I discovered it wasn't the extended art lands in the pack.
i didn't find out until after 😥
@@prollybee They weren't very forthcoming with the details until it was too late for a lot of people 🙁
I really like the idea of the 6/3/1 Booster/Set/Collector sampler.
A card list pamphlet (or double-sided poster) would be nice too.
I absolutely love how you presented your conclusion, the "illusion" of better value. Perfect!
Agreed
Unions are facist.
There's only a change of getting better then usual odds after all
Really don't like the set booster packs atm.
I agree with your assessment. I use the boxes to store the cards from each set that I open from my set boxes, so I will probably be buying 1 eventually, but fewer packs, lands not matching what's in the packs, and no book/let is just lowering the desire to buy them exponentially.
I miss the novels and image guides that used to be in them. I also miss when they used to have 2 card boxes in them
Yeah me too
2 card boxes? I'm pretty new
Do you mean mini deck boxes? Or like dividers?
@@fluff0000zz the whole box that holds everything is what I meant it used to be two stacked on top of eachother each could hold about 500 cards so they were really nice for organizing cards
I highly agree about the lands. I would pick up a box just for the full arts alone
I always buy a bundle when it has full art lands. The fact they didn’t include the eternal night lands was a huge turnoff
I also love the theme of this one.
"Is it worth it...?" When you pull The Meathook Massacre from one, yes. XD
And wrenn and seven
only two cards in the set with high price tags only to fall once more sets comes out and meta changes
I got Meathook Massacre, Sigarda Champion of Light and Rockfall Vale from the main set and then Animate Dead and Balefire Dragon from The List.
Huge, huge value. All together about $75 from a $34 bundle.
Oh hell yeah, for a slight increased price I'd love to see a bundle packed with a variaty of usefull items as:
- different booster packs of the current set: 6x draft, 3x set and 1x collectible (love that idea prof!)
- land pack (amount and sort of lands as well as foiling is debatable)
- token pack of needed tokens the set asks for
- 60 sleeves with a set motive (and maybe 60 inner sleeves)
- spin down dice or life counter wheel
- the package at the inside could include some cut out counters for the set themes
You don't have to feel ashamed for buying something that you enjoyed buying :)
Been waiting for this for ages, thank you for saying this! Playing with the cards is always better than just opening IMO.
6 draft, 3 set and one collector pack is such a good idea! Friends can play a sealed tournament and some or all the packs can be the prizes! It makes too much sense and wouldn't be insulting which seems to be the deciding factor in Wizards decision making...
Collectors boosters are absolutely not worth the price unless you’re a whale so ya throwing one in a bundle would be a good idea
It would be $59.99 but I'm okay with that
I would only buy this for the glow-in-the-dark spin down and the storage box. I would probably only buy one. Unless I could find somebody willing to sell the spin down to me. That I could do without the storage box.
I prefer the 10 draft booster version. This new bundle feels like I'm getting jipped.
I'm jealous of the Professor's bundle. I want Gisa and Wrenn!
I feel like if I was running a company like wizards I would pay top dollar to have someone like the prof as a consultant for my products
I would absolutely love if they brought back paperback novels in the bundle! I would buy them every set!
Same
I also got really excited to see the kitchen. Gorgeous!
8:58 “Shouldn’t the point of a bundle be kind of getting like a FAT PACKage of a deal?”
I see what you did there, Prof.
Fat Pack was a great name ... when I go to my LGS I still refer to them as Fat Packs :)
@@Morrodin182 I think when I was playing heavily at FNM during the Khans of Tarkir block most of my boosters came from buying fat packs.
Ok. That dice is actually pretty cool. Worth the $40-odd. Especially good for when you are playing in the dark and can't read the cards.
That feeling when 1 set bundle ends up having way better pulls then several boxes.
Wish granted:

He was an English professor...
The fact it didn’t come with full art lands made me completely lose interest in this product
@@Afrosamuri24 the non-full art mountains are bundle exclusive though; much rarer than the full art mountains in terms of print volume
Spooky i just found out today the bundle had changed and came on to check for this video. As ever, The Prof always delivers \o/
Im still waiting for the day when wizards step ups his extra products and makes things like pokemon does, not just bundle, just giving a code for a free arena pack in each booster would be such an upside
That would be a cool idea
Thanks for this video, as usual it is 100% spot on
I would like to share my opinion about the current situation regarding set boosters: I have the impression that with pushing set boosters WotC is increasing the price two times on its customers.
I ended up getting one because my LGS sells them at a reasonable price, but I was sad when I opened mine and the dice didn’t glow in the dark :(
The dice was in a package for weeks, of course it didn't glow when you opened it...
It has to absorb sun for it to glow in the dark 😀😀
Thank you I was hoping for this exact video.
Also it looked like the cards you unwrapped were amazing!
6 set boosters for sealed and 3 draft boosters for draft, imagine that.
I like getting a bundle from each set. I get them at decently below MSRP, so that helps a lot.
I preordered this bundle, but it will probably be the last one I'll ever get if they keep them as they are going forward.
So sad WOTC is scrimping as much as possible.
why tho, set boosters are so much better than draft boosters if you arent drafting.. just get a prerelease kit!
Most people may not have used bundles for draft, but I sure did. When I would set up a draft at home, I would buy up a bunch of bundles simply for the included storage boxes (for obvious reasons) and land packs (to keep my Vorthos brain happy.)
Ah well.
"Set boosters are not guaranteed to have more rares in them." *immediately pulls a Wrenn and Seven*
Lucky pull is lucky.
You can tell The Professor never cooks by his pathetic knife skills.
It's literally just for the bit, chill out
@@T1nyFr0gg I'm plenty chill, bro, I was being facetious, for the bit.
I first started buying bundles when I first started playing. I quickly jumped on set boosters and have bought those plus singles I may need since then
Greetings , Professor. A rookie Taiwanese player and semi-collector here.
I'm suffered by some sort of mental illness for years ,
I've been drained too much to construct my EDH ,
casual 60 cards decks or even a sealed 40 cards deck for over half year.
Well I still purchase products from my LGS and watching "is it worth to buy..." series at home ,
the gamble itself kinda makes me...Uh...Idk , transform to a normal person for just few minutes?
Then flip back to a 0/1 bulk lol.
And I'd like to collect pre-constructed deck ,
although some of them were graded-low but I still love pre-cons!!
Got the 2 commanders from de white/green deck, wren and 8, urborg, and meathook massacre
Genius idea about the 3 types of packs in a bundle! I'd for sure pick one up every set if that's how they were set up.
I love that you can see when he lands on Wrenn and Seven he kind of paused. I wonder if he smiled.
an upload just when i needed it. Thanks Prof!
I didn't know you were a professor of interior design too. That kitchen is gorgeous.
I had no idea that the bundle changed. Thank you for the update! Also, I miss the paperback novels :(
4:39 yes Prof I feel the same way. Asking Mark Rosewater on tumblr he said that market research shows that the players did not like them.
Maybe they should ask again ;)
I remember when I got the fat Pack back in Odyssey - it only had a 3 boosters and the "Tournament pack", but it had the novel and the set guide included.
