Eh. Anor Londo was required for the main story, so you’d see it regardless of your covenant or play style. Gwyndolin is completely optional and isn’t exactly the easiest boss to find (given the illusionary wall). So while everyone who played Dark Souls to completion would see Anor Londo, not everyone would see Gwyndolin.

I have always preferred dancer to Aldrich. She at least doesn't have any ranged attacks so that if I get really pissed I can just perform bow cheese (Shameful and heretical I know), and while she has awkward delays and long combos she doesn't have the arrows. At least that is my opinion.

Aldrich is one of those bosses where depending on which attacks he decides to abuse you're either gonna have an easy time or a really, really hard time. I've seen times where Aldrich uses nothing but his arrow volley and times where he doesn't even use it once, it makes me wonder how the A.I. of the boss is programmed to make it choose one move over an other
in the first stage it´s mostly where you are, if you rush him he will almost always use melee attacks and magic when you´re further away. might be the same principle in the second phase aswell not sure tho.
Im one of those guys that loves it when he spams ranged attacks. When he just spams Lifesteal Scythe (Ive had him do it like 6 times back to back and other times where he never does it) I cant beat him.
Ricardo Valdes Aldrich is pretty easy to manipulate in my opinion. When at melee range the only thing he can do is slowly swipe his spear and eventually move away. When he does that, he is always in the corner of the room furthest away from you.
Crystal Sage and Aldrich are very RNG dependent. One time I fought Crystal Sage he was refusing to teleport at all and I killed him before he even got to second phase.
Holy shit this happened to me my first playthrough but it was after Yhorm. So I had the Storm Ruler equipped. And then got teleported to a boss fight with that crap as my only weapon. I died, horribly.
mrhomelesspanda Aldrich was the hardest boss in DS3 for me. I beat Nameless on the first try, and Midir on the second try, but then there's Aldrich...over 10 deaths. (Mostly before I learned to run instead of roll from those arrows and to dodge that damned Lifehunt Scythe attack).
Yeah, my first character dealt only dark and fire dmg so i had to respec and get another weapon just to beat Midir... not to say demon prince... Dark is so underpowered in pve.

irvanCrocs most of them said that aldrich looked like gwyndolin, not that gwyndolin was getting devoured, i got that aldrich was the sludge thing via the lore you can get before the fight (which isnt even hard to miss, hawkwood tells you pretty much what happened to aldrich and what was he, anri also gives you a little bit of info and in the intro he didnt have the corpse of gwyndolin... I though ot was hard to miss...
I love how critics of this game say "Oh they redid anor londo!! that bad!!!" but just look at these guys realizing where they are. It's such amazing fanservice.
I thought Aldrich was super difficult, then I was assisting some guy, and he used the vow of silence miracle, and pretty much turned Aldrich into a moving sandbag. After we defeated him, I went back to my game and tried it, and it actually worked like a charm.
When I reached this nostalgic area, I immediately looked to the right to see if those silver knights, with bows, were going to greet me. And then I saw the blacksmith and the sludge and Anor Londo in ruins. Sobered up real quick. No ring either. :(
Huh, I didn't actually know the pillars could block the arrow storm. Of course, hiding behind them isn't a good idea because he'll just blast you with the stone-shattering death ray and knock you into the storm again, but still.
I didn't recognize Aldrich had Gwyndolin's body until I read his item descriptions :s His head piece, hair length, physique, and overall atmosphere was nothing like the 'sad moon goddess' appearance from dark souls... Which only made the revelation sadder because that thing I killed was impersonating Gwyndolin and I couldn't even recognize it. I was a darkmoon knight Gwyndolin fanatic at one point so it was just... ugh. brb ima go cry now
As someone who didn't play the other Dark Souls games though, it was nice to see... because the significance of the location was completely lost on someone like me.
I love how Dark Souls is such an iconic game that these players walk into a room and most of them remember how it’s the same room as in the first game, complete with an illusionary statue.

Many people say that the top half of Aldrich is Gwyndolins being puppeteered by in its half eaten state. But as he got the lifehunt scythe from priscilla after dreaming it im pretty sure hes already mostly digested gwyndolin and using his arrows and visage as he dreamt it. If you want proof his mask is a little different.

If you're a sorcerer build then yeah he's a pain. He's extremely tanky when it comes to magic or any dark spells. He was extremely easy since I had a strength build and using artorias great sword.
I just realised that the bottom snake like thing is Aldrich who's eating gwyndolin on the top. I just couldn't understand why Aldrich looked like gwyndolin.
Beating dark souls offline greatly upgrades yer gaming skill, shaves a few years off ya life & creates a permanent sense of nostalgia that you're a badass that overcame.
I like the gameplay of this boss. I like the lore of this boss. Yet, I dislike the gameplay of this boss from a lore perspective. Aldrich was supposed to be some great and powerful being because of everyone he ate, yet you wouldn't know he could do anything without Gwyndolin. The fight is basically Gwyndolin 2.0, and I feel like that's wasted potential. I think it could have been cooler to do something somewhat like Nakarkos from Monster Hunter X, where Aldrich would, every time he teleported, come back up with a different character that he had eaten.
"because of everyone he ate" His title of " Devourer of Gods" is kinda misleading since he only ate Gwyndolyn's corpse so far and the others abilities are the result of him dreaming about it, like Priscilla's Lifehunt Scythe.
Just think about it : he just finished 2 fights : against Smough, and then against Gwyndolin. Basically, you are taking him while he is finishing his feast and not really at it's better, that's why he mostly use the power he just got because he used most of what he had before. I agree that they should have made him more diverse, but it's power level is fine to me in term of lore and gameplay.
GamingJar I mean, he appears to have been powerful enough to link the flame (which, in terms of lore, requires quite a lot of strength) before he ever ate any gods, so it's strange that he doesn't really use any of that power during the fight, relying almost entirely on things he took from Gwyndolin. He may or may not have eaten other gods, but he certainly ate a lot of people, and I feel like having them reflected in the fight somehow would add to him being more than Gwyndolin 2.0. Yes, he has Lifehunt Scythe, and he melees kinda like Nito, but he mostly fights like a more aggressive Gwyndolin.
It’s unfortunate how even if they notice “hey, that’s gwyndolin”, they don’t notice that the fight is literally a remix of gwyndolin. Gwyndolin’s attacks in DS1 are firing a bunch of small magic projectiles, firing a big magic projectiles (that can also pass through pillars), and fire a bunch of arrows that can deal a ton of damage if they all hit you. Gwyndolin also teleports away when you get close, just like how Aldrich teleports around the arena. In phase 2, Aldrich gets a scythe attack that absorbs hp, which is lifehunt scythe, a boss weapon from ds1
Sure felt disturbed when I first played this and saw the Devourer of gods part of Aldrich's title and then realized he was slowly eating Gwyndolyn and controlling his body.
I'm guessing he got an early version of it. It releases in Japan before the rest of the world so some people who want an early copy will change their location (I think you can just change it in whatever store you're using's settings, like Steam or the Playstation store, though maybe you'd have to use a VPN idk) to Japan and buy it from there. I guess I'd you've played enough Souls games you won't have any problems actually playing the game and all of the dialogue is in English, but idk why you wouldn't just wait a few days to play the English version.

Aldrich is easy for DSIII standards, but extremely difficult for DSI and DSII standards so i wasn't surprised to hear that many of them found him the most difficult in the Souls Series so far. First time i fought him he rekt me so bad i thought i'd never have a chance, second time i fought him i beat him without using Estus because i had the luck of him not using his bullshit undodgeable moves. Still i am kinda looking forward to seeing these guys fight the Nameless King, Soul of Cinder, Darkeater Midir, Slave Knight Gael, Lothric&Lorian, Friede&Ariandel, Gravetender&Gravetender's Greatwolf, and Spears of the Church (PvP bosses
Giant Dad The real legend would never die, especially to Aldrich. I first tried a ton of bosses in DkS3 including Aldrich. Not trying to brag or anything, I just found the gameplay quite similar to that of Demon's Souls and Bloodborne (2 of my most played games of all time) so I got used to the speed and flow of combat really quickly.
LeadFaun Undodgeable moves? Well how about that fire in his second phase, or his arrow rain (i know that its theoretically not undogdeable, but in reality even though it won't kill you, a few hits will get through which makes me feel like i'm doing something wrong when i really couldn't have done anything about it), those two are really the only annoying moves that he has, but trust me if he spamms those out along with his Lifehunt Scythe attack he's a fucking annoying boss. Ah whatever maybe i'm a little too much of a perfectionist.
LeadFaun Yes and like i said Aldrich isn't even that difficult, my statement wasn't about difficulty it was about a few moves that could not be avoided unless you take drastically long measures around them. This bothers me because it's completely out of character for a Dark Souls game, what i love about Dark Souls is not *just* the difficulty, its the way that difficulty outs itself. This is why despite the fact that there are many bosses like the Greatwood, and Bed of Chaos, and Last Giant, and Aldrich (Huge bosses that only require patience and nothing else) people, including myself, will always prefer bosses like Artorias, and Gwyn, and Old Dragonslayer, and Gael, and Soul of Cinder, Alonne etc. I wish all bosses were more or less like those bosses, although i do not mind a good dragon like the beautifully executed Darkeater Midir or Black Dragon Kalameet. Seath, or even worse the Ancient Dragon on the other hand can fuck right off xD

Want to know the hardest part of Aldrich for me? Getting there. Got invaded 3 times trying to get to him, all in the same life. Third guy killed me, so at least no one could invade me the fourth time I tried to get there.
Holy shit! All the times I fought this guy on my first play through, I never realized that the theme was the same as gwyndolin’s, yet believe it or not I immediately recognized that it looked a lot like gwyndolin. I also immediately recognized the entirety of Anor Londo, as well as the boss room.
Kinda bothered me that they noticed the one room from DS1 for gwyndolin and think Londo. But despite literally seeing gwyndolin, not a peep from some. Others took longer to notice. Like what???

Reason why I never asked anyone about tips and shit because the responses varied but you always found that "really? You dont know? Or the usual snobby DS superfan throwing the words noob and get good around since they were 100% perfect in their runs and are like NG+7 and still wishing Bloodborne was released on PC. They expect everyone to be at their level in terms of experience.
when I was a new player and on my first time against Aldrich I got a summon sign from a warrior of sunlight named "Bruh" a shirtless man with just Solaris's helm with a longsword and was able to help me kill him in under 20 seconds with his big lightning miracle attacks I was like so taken aback how strong that dude was and like 5 lightning bolts later he's dead and I'm like "Wait What!?"
Fun fact about Aldrich the lower flesh bile worm part is Aldrich and the upper body is actually Gwendolyn’s corpse that Aldrich uses as a puppet for most of his spells.
The boss is literally the Witch King from Lotr and he's casting unblockable dark magic spells that will shred your health bar and everyone's go to move is fucking around in front of him, gawking at how the room looks, and they're wondering why he keeps killing them.
When everyone recognizes the Darkmoon Tomb and Anor Londo, but only 2 guys mentioned that he _kinda_ looked like Gwyndolin. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I can't believe Aldrich only used the lifehunt scythe once, and the guy to whom it happened didn't even notice it and thus none of them noticed that Priscilla was devoured. Actually, it looks like some of them thought it was Gwyndolin himself, even though Aldrich literally was named the "Devourer of Gods" and that in this world you gain the powers of the souls you take in.
Everyone notices that it IS Gwyndolin but no one talks about how he has the same move set: teleport, super lethal arrow barrage, homing mass and soul spear

if you can stay away from the arrows he's not too bad. Keep mobile and sprint to him when he respawns makes it way easier
Next video's intro should have them reacting to being teleported to the dancer's fight unprepared.

Many people say that the top half of Aldrich is Gwyndolins being puppeteered by in its half eaten state. But as he got the lifehunt scythe from priscilla after dreaming it im pretty sure hes already mostly digested gwyndolin and using his arrows and visage as he dreamt it. If you want proof his mask is a little different.

If you're a sorcerer build then yeah he's a pain. He's extremely tanky when it comes to magic or any dark spells.
He was extremely easy since I had a strength build and using artorias great sword.

Beating dark souls offline greatly upgrades yer gaming skill, shaves a few years off ya life & creates a permanent sense of nostalgia that you're a badass that overcame.
I like the gameplay of this boss. I like the lore of this boss. Yet, I dislike the gameplay of this boss from a lore perspective. Aldrich was supposed to be some great and powerful being because of everyone he ate, yet you wouldn't know he could do anything without Gwyndolin. The fight is basically Gwyndolin 2.0, and I feel like that's wasted potential. I think it could have been cooler to do something somewhat like Nakarkos from Monster Hunter X, where Aldrich would, every time he teleported, come back up with a different character that he had eaten.
There are priscilla moves, and some nito stuff, still. Anyway, I agree.

His title of " Devourer of Gods" is kinda misleading since he only ate Gwyndolyn's corpse so far and the others abilities are the result of him dreaming about it, like Priscilla's Lifehunt Scythe.

Just think about it : he just finished 2 fights : against Smough, and then against Gwyndolin. Basically, you are taking him while he is finishing his feast and not really at it's better, that's why he mostly use the power he just got because he used most of what he had before.
I agree that they should have made him more diverse, but it's power level is fine to me in term of lore and gameplay.
GamingJar I mean, he appears to have been powerful enough to link the flame (which, in terms of lore, requires quite a lot of strength) before he ever ate any gods, so it's strange that he doesn't really use any of that power during the fight, relying almost entirely on things he took from Gwyndolin. He may or may not have eaten other gods, but he certainly ate a lot of people, and I feel like having them reflected in the fight somehow would add to him being more than Gwyndolin 2.0. Yes, he has Lifehunt Scythe, and he melees kinda like Nito, but he mostly fights like a more aggressive Gwyndolin.
It’s unfortunate how even if they notice “hey, that’s gwyndolin”, they don’t notice that the fight is literally a remix of gwyndolin. Gwyndolin’s attacks in DS1 are firing a bunch of small magic projectiles, firing a big magic projectiles (that can also pass through pillars), and fire a bunch of arrows that can deal a ton of damage if they all hit you. Gwyndolin also teleports away when you get close, just like how Aldrich teleports around the arena. In phase 2, Aldrich gets a scythe attack that absorbs hp, which is lifehunt scythe, a boss weapon from ds1

Sure felt disturbed when I first played this and saw the Devourer of gods part of Aldrich's title and then realized he was slowly eating Gwyndolyn and controlling his body.
The difficulty depends on how often he use the attack looks like Quincy attack from anime. This arrows. That's like ultimate move that killing me! ;D

I'm guessing he got an early version of it. It releases in Japan before the rest of the world so some people who want an early copy will change their location (I think you can just change it in whatever store you're using's settings, like Steam or the Playstation store, though maybe you'd have to use a VPN idk) to Japan and buy it from there. I guess I'd you've played enough Souls games you won't have any problems actually playing the game and all of the dialogue is in English, but idk why you wouldn't just wait a few days to play the English version.
I remember doing this with my buddy and he said that “theres an invisible walkway on that elevator” and i told him “how fucking stupid do you think i am?!” Thinking he was trying to get me killed, turns out he wasn’t and it led to the woman who game you the dark moon blade
This is a great boss. Great design, tough to beat unless you're over leveled, amazing music, great buildup, and so much nostalgia.

Aldrich is easy for DSIII standards, but extremely difficult for DSI and DSII standards so i wasn't surprised to hear that many of them found him the most difficult in the Souls Series so far. First time i fought him he rekt me so bad i thought i'd never have a chance, second time i fought him i beat him without using Estus because i had the luck of him not using his bullshit undodgeable moves. Still i am kinda looking forward to seeing these guys fight the Nameless King, Soul of Cinder, Darkeater Midir, Slave Knight Gael, Lothric&Lorian, Friede&Ariandel, Gravetender&Gravetender's Greatwolf, and Spears of the Church (PvP bosses

I first tried a ton of bosses in DkS3 including Aldrich. Not trying to brag or anything, I just found the gameplay quite similar to that of Demon's Souls and Bloodborne (2 of my most played games of all time) so I got used to the speed and flow of combat really quickly.
LeadFaun Undodgeable moves? Well how about that fire in his second phase, or his arrow rain (i know that its theoretically not undogdeable, but in reality even though it won't kill you, a few hits will get through which makes me feel like i'm doing something wrong when i really couldn't have done anything about it), those two are really the only annoying moves that he has, but trust me if he spamms those out along with his Lifehunt Scythe attack he's a fucking annoying boss. Ah whatever maybe i'm a little too much of a perfectionist.
LeadFaun Yes and like i said Aldrich isn't even that difficult, my statement wasn't about difficulty it was about a few moves that could not be avoided unless you take drastically long measures around them. This bothers me because it's completely out of character for a Dark Souls game, what i love about Dark Souls is not *just* the difficulty, its the way that difficulty outs itself.
This is why despite the fact that there are many bosses like the Greatwood, and Bed of Chaos, and Last Giant, and Aldrich (Huge bosses that only require patience and nothing else) people, including myself, will always prefer bosses like Artorias, and Gwyn, and Old Dragonslayer, and Gael, and Soul of Cinder, Alonne etc. I wish all bosses were more or less like those bosses, although i do not mind a good dragon like the beautifully executed Darkeater Midir or Black Dragon Kalameet. Seath, or even worse the Ancient Dragon on the other hand can fuck right off xD

It's always crazy to me how different peoples experiences with bosses are, some that seem easy to me take hours for others, and some that are easy for others made me put my controller through the tv
Want to know the hardest part of Aldrich for me? Getting there. Got invaded 3 times trying to get to him, all in the same life. Third guy killed me, so at least no one could invade me the fourth time I tried to get there.

Holy shit! All the times I fought this guy on my first play through, I never realized that the theme was the same as gwyndolin’s, yet believe it or not I immediately recognized that it looked a lot like gwyndolin. I also immediately recognized the entirety of Anor Londo, as well as the boss room.

Reason why I never asked anyone about tips and shit because the responses varied but you always found that "really? You dont know? Why are you playing this game if you didnt do/realized/remember this and that from the first game????" Or the usual snobby DS superfan throwing the words noob and get good around since they were 100% perfect in their runs and are like NG+7 and still wishing Bloodborne was released on PC. They expect everyone to be at their level in terms of experience.

it's weird because I started playing dark souls way later. Went backwards and all the nostalgia is just...opposite lol
when I was a new player and on my first time against Aldrich I got a summon sign from a warrior of sunlight named "Bruh" a shirtless man with just Solaris's helm with a longsword and was able to help me kill him in under 20 seconds with his big lightning miracle attacks I was like so taken aback how strong that dude was and like 5 lightning bolts later he's dead and I'm like "Wait What!?"
The best part about this fight is that it feels like fighting a literal god with ranining arrows and soul masses.
Well now come all the fun bosses, i can't wait!

I don't think I struggled with any boss more than I did this one, just because of that godforsaken hail of arrows that just does. Not. End.
Fun fact about Aldrich the lower flesh bile worm part is Aldrich and the upper body is actually Gwendolyn’s corpse that Aldrich uses as a puppet for most of his spells.
The boss is literally the Witch King from Lotr and he's casting unblockable dark magic spells that will shred your health bar and everyone's go to move is fucking around in front of him, gawking at how the room looks, and they're wondering why he keeps killing them.
When everyone recognizes the Darkmoon Tomb and Anor Londo, but only 2 guys mentioned that he _kinda_ looked like Gwyndolin.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I can't believe Aldrich only used the lifehunt scythe once, and the guy to whom it happened didn't even notice it and thus none of them noticed that Priscilla was devoured.
Actually, it looks like some of them thought it was Gwyndolin himself, even though Aldrich literally was named the "Devourer of Gods" and that in this world you gain the powers of the souls you take in.
