Ach don't be so critical. We have, all, done scratch the head, type of decisions in these games. How many have killed npcs and then find out they can't upgrade weapons? Many.
when i first went up against yohrm i quickly went for the loot cuz im a greedy person :) but didnt know that that weapon was meant to beat him with it until i tried the WA on him with the help of wiki ofc XD

I dunno what hurt to watch more, the guy using the executioners greatsword after watching Siegward hit him for 6k with the storm ruler, or the guy using 7 scales on upgrading it.
The thing is From never takes the easy way out. those who live after their quest give you their loot and wander off on their own in a sense (with some you find turning hollow in the end). From always does things that works for the lore. Thats what i love about them
If you fast travel right after talking to Siegward, only his loot will be there when you come back. But if you actually walk outside Yhorm's boss room after finishing the fight, you can actually hear Siegward dying. I do believe he kills himself in the end.
Funny thing is, in the world of Dark Souls, dying is perhaps the greatest reward an undead can earn. No more constantly resurrecting. No more constantly being cut down, only to awaken again and repeat everything. No more living half a life, retracing your steps over and over again, until you lose all hope, all motivation, all sanity. Finally, free from your duty. Finally, able to rest.
I believe that every npc that is an ashen one either dies or goes hollow as soon as they have fulfilled their task. At least that what happens with...well, all of them, right? (edited)
@0:01 What actually happened with the corpses is this: When Yhorm linked the first flame because of how huge his body is an enormous inferno was created in order to actually be able to consume him, that inferno both destroyed the capital and created the profaned flame. The reason Yhorm secludes himself in the capital is because he needs to keep the profaned flame in check and is too occupied doing so to keep his vows as a lord of cinder. That's why Seigward comes to kill him, because upon giving him a stormruler, Yhorm made Seigward promise to use it to kill him should he ever fail to uphold his duty and link the flame.
biodude zerothree close but not entirely correct . Thorn was the ruler/protector of the profaned capital and when he linked the fire all of his people in the capital died through the huge inferno . So when the flame started to fade instead of linking the fire again to rekindle it he stays in the capital to let it die out because last time he linked the flame everyone he cared about died
I'm pretty sure (and possibly wrong) that the Profaned Flame existed prior to Yhorm, and Yhorm became a Lord of Cinder in order to extinguish the Profaned Flame, but the clashing of the two flames killed all the people and those that survived became the Handmaid's, the gargoyles, and those weird hand things. The sewer centipedes probably just crawled in from Irithyll. This is only info I got from half paying attention to VaatiVidya though so I could've just filled in the blanks with incorrect information.

Voxyld Well, look at it this way: Siegward, by fulfilling his promise, has nothing else left to live for, and when undead in Dark Souls have nothing left to live for, they become hollow. So Siegward took his own life to prevent that from happening. Finally being able to Rest In Peace.

greirat would probably be better if you interacted with him more. you only get to talk to him a few times before he just disappears. unlike siegward or anri where you encounter them in the world and help them accomplish their goals.

I love how with this fight it was "Oh crap, I do no damage, gotta find another way to hurt him", and then later you run into Midir and it's "Oh crap, I do no damage, guess I'll die"
lol DS3 is my first soul game and I went in totally blind and beat yhorm without using storm ruler. Isshin has taught me so well lmao NO HESITATION so EZ to roll dodge just need 10 mins to axe his leg down Longest fight ever.

Gonna be honest, I'm surprised it took them so long to realize there was an item glint next to his throne. And that even after seeing the storm ruler it took them a bit for them to realize that a weapon found inside a boss room is about 99% chance going to be the key to beating them. I saw it next to his throne and dashed over to grab it when I first saw him
I love the slow realization of his weakness The original "oh shit, I deal no damage" to finding the storm ruler, to figuring out what it does, and then destroying him
For a while when I watched these, I found it werid for people to say things like "I'll have a homeward bone ready in case there's a boss behind this fog wall." I thought, "what else could possibly be behind the fog?" Then I watched people playing Dark Souls 1, and there were fog walls for basic doorways in that. Since I started with 3, I didn't know fog walls being used for anything but boss doors was a thing.
I've fought him with varying degrees of manliness. I've smacked his arms and legs for a long time, I've had Siegward knock him down so that I could hit his head, then riposted him, I've hit his head with magic/crossbow/bow then riposted him, and I've also fought him with the Storm Ruler. All were fun for me. Fighting him in earnest is problematic if you have a low durability weapon, though (for example, Frayed Blade).
somebody killed everybody in the dark souls game with a broken straight sword including DLC bosses, the video is called the dark souls experience and the other one with the optional and DLC bosses is the same name but with DLC attached to it
"Visions of friendship" It's understandable that most players won't get it for the first time. It means that this battle in particular can be fought by you (the player) and Siegward of Catarina should you complete his quest. He'll join you in a fight while bringing the Storm Ruler with him. You may also use the Storm Ruler as soon as you reached his throne and equip it to deal a massive damage alongside Siegward.
I almost missed the hole near the rooftop are in Profaned Capital but Siegward's questline is easy. Irina's and Anri's questlines can be a lot more easily fucked up.

People who complain about this being a gimmick fight, just think about it like this; You enter the room for the first time, you don’t know about the sword, you spend five or six rounds doing nothing to him. Then finally you get the trick and he falls. Then you learn the law behind the sword and you realise that Yorm let you kill him and it’s all the more emotional.
I think Chronos probably did this fight in the best possible way. Trying to keep Yhorm's attention off of Siegward so that he survives to use the Stormruler is satisfying both from a gameplay and narrative standpoint. I know what I'm doing on my next playthrough.
You know, cause what better way to keep Yhorm's attention off of Siegward than to poke Yhorm with a toothpick while Siegward destroys him with his Stormruler? It *DEFINITELY* makes sense narrative and gameplay wise for Yhorm to focus on the player whose doing shitall other than dodging attacks while Siegward's the only one doing any damage. It can't even be counted as lazy, since it'd be much quicker to go after Yhorm with both of you wielding Stormrulers. I don't know what you're talking about honestly.
Actually it's not all that bad; upgrading the Storm Ruler does kind of help in later New Game Pluses what with the added damage and all. Plus if you're like me and you just have loads of Titanite Scales from farming the rock lizards then there's really no harm. XD
There's an interesting thing I found out about this boss when I was fighting it at first. I kept swinging at him with my claymore and got bored of it, and then I thought maybe hitting his head would do something. So, I started shooting magic at his head. After several seemingly futile shots, he got stunned and dropped his head to the ground. I then went in to strike his head with my sword, and it did a reposte animation, dealing a bunch of damage.
I love how EpicNameBro almost didn't believe it, he's so familiar with Souls :D I admit Yhorm's fight was sorta' gimmick but...the soundtrack and his design are soooo EPIC! Thanks for these videos, keep 'em up!
I second that. The one who also made that remark (EpicNameBro) had quite a verbal reaction when he picked up Storm Ruler later in these clips which is a welcome add-on to how much he recalls details from Demon's Souls.
Yhorm the Giant has such an incredible song, like if you haven't heard the full version you should go and do that right now cause his song just *screams* "I'm a giant"

Fun fact, on my first playtrough i spent 25 minutes under his butt spamming attacking him with the irithyll sword until i took him down, on my first try too, if you stay under his but he almost never hits you, i just figured it was a long battle on purpose to annoy the player. On my second game i wondered if there was a secret to killing him faster, you can imagine my reaction when i saw a video of someone destroying him with the storm ruler..
bricky was the one who did that? it's been a while since i last saw his lets play. ....wasn't he a slightly over leveled for the fight tho? no matter, with yhorm's high ass health and resistance idc what he had to do to beat em', he did it without storm ruler. point blank period. maybe i'll go find the video again. so far i just remeber his salt against pontiff and champion gundyr.
Can't even lie the first few times I beat yhorm...even in new game plus, I didn't know to use that sword at all. I beat him with just my regular setup and found out 2 years later lol

The guy might be Japanese/half-Japanese/been in Japan for a long time. His Japanese is really really good. You can hear him reading out the description of storm-ruler at around 8:26
Since the game first released in Japan, and since some people were impatient, there were a lot of people outside of Japan that bought the Japanese version so they could play it early.
It was so much fun watching us all try to figure out the "secret" to taking him down. Great editing, as usual!

Definitely the scales. Trimming Yhorm's toenails to keep his attention on you while Siegward charges his sword uninterrupted is pretty effective.

For a while when I watched these, I found it werid for people to say things like "I'll have a homeward bone ready in case there's a boss behind this fog wall." I thought, "what else could possibly be behind the fog?" Then I watched people playing Dark Souls 1, and there were fog walls for basic doorways in that. Since I started with 3, I didn't know fog walls being used for anything but boss doors was a thing.

I always fight him now in a straight fight! It usually takes like 8 minutes.
I've fought him with varying degrees of manliness. I've smacked his arms and legs for a long time, I've had Siegward knock him down so that I could hit his head, then riposted him, I've hit his head with magic/crossbow/bow then riposted him, and I've also fought him with the Storm Ruler. All were fun for me. Fighting him in earnest is problematic if you have a low durability weapon, though (for example, Frayed Blade).

It's understandable that most players won't get it for the first time. It means that this battle in particular can be fought by you (the player) and Siegward of Catarina should you complete his quest. He'll join you in a fight while bringing the Storm Ruler with him. You may also use the Storm Ruler as soon as you reached his throne and equip it to deal a massive damage alongside Siegward.

I almost missed the hole near the rooftop are in Profaned Capital but Siegward's questline is easy. Irina's and Anri's questlines can be a lot more easily fucked up.

Yhorm is my favorite character of all the dark souls but they did him dirty making him so easy to kill like he had so much potential
fighting him on NG+ runs with fully upgraded weapons and high STR is actually really fun, would recommend.
To this day I think to myself: Did Chronos know that it wasn't necessary to have Siegward to defeat Yhorm?

People who complain about this being a gimmick fight, just think about it like this;
You enter the room for the first time, you don’t know about the sword, you spend five or six rounds doing nothing to him. Then finally you get the trick and he falls. Then you learn the law behind the sword and you realise that Yorm let you kill him and it’s all the more emotional.
I think Chronos probably did this fight in the best possible way. Trying to keep Yhorm's attention off of Siegward so that he survives to use the Stormruler is satisfying both from a gameplay and narrative standpoint. I know what I'm doing on my next playthrough.
You know, cause what better way to keep Yhorm's attention off of Siegward than to poke Yhorm with a toothpick while Siegward destroys him with his Stormruler? It *DEFINITELY* makes sense narrative and gameplay wise for Yhorm to focus on the player whose doing shitall other than dodging attacks while Siegward's the only one doing any damage. It can't even be counted as lazy, since it'd be much quicker to go after Yhorm with both of you wielding Stormrulers. I don't know what you're talking about honestly.

Actually it's not all that bad; upgrading the Storm Ruler does kind of help in later New Game Pluses what with the added damage and all. Plus if you're like me and you just have loads of Titanite Scales from farming the rock lizards then there's really no harm. XD

There's an interesting thing I found out about this boss when I was fighting it at first. I kept swinging at him with my claymore and got bored of it, and then I thought maybe hitting his head would do something. So, I started shooting magic at his head. After several seemingly futile shots, he got stunned and dropped his head to the ground. I then went in to strike his head with my sword, and it did a reposte animation, dealing a bunch of damage.
I love how EpicNameBro almost didn't believe it, he's so familiar with Souls :D

Fun fact, on my first playtrough i spent 25 minutes under his butt spamming attacking him with the irithyll sword until i took him down, on my first try too, if you stay under his but he almost never hits you, i just figured it was a long battle on purpose to annoy the player. On my second game i wondered if there was a secret to killing him faster, you can imagine my reaction when i saw a video of someone destroying him with the storm ruler..

The guy might be Japanese/half-Japanese/been in Japan for a long time. His Japanese is really really good. You can hear him reading out the description of storm-ruler at around 8:26
Since the game first released in Japan, and since some people were impatient, there were a lot of people outside of Japan that bought the Japanese version so they could play it early.
