Justin, for wiring the VTX, you suggest not using the existing pads on FC. I've worked thru the top and bottom of board and can't find Vbat pads. Did you go directly to battery pads?
Thank SHIT i found this video. I just bought the V1 of the TH FS by MISTAKE, thinking it was the V2. So i ordered a new VTX for it but then it looked like i wouldn't be able to replace the one that is on the bird. Glad to know i now can.
For everyone that is trying to Upgrade an R-XRS Receiver !!! You need to solder the Signal wire to the uninverted SBUS Singal (the Pad with the B on your R-XSR), then solder the other end from the Signal wire to the RX1 Pad on your FC. It is located on the Bottom of the FC. After that, go to BF and choose Soft Serial on UART 1, then choose Serial-Based Receiver and SBUS. Done

As a sort of noob the upgrade process was super fast paced and hard to understand...got a Freestyle 1 on the way because my local FPV group got in on a group buy for $46 each😂 Are there any videos that maybe explain it a bit more in depth?
Devin Mikulec lets just say it’s EMAX. They have a standard practice for the quads they sell. all emax quad gain the full support of emax America. after market culture for emax is growing week in week out. Also it seems like the big manufactures at some point standardize their hardware meaning available replacement parts for longer periods. The quality of current gear is at least 3 times better from even 3 years ago. Finally as a best practice I do personally. Once I find a quad that I love I would horde spare parts for it when I can. Because sometimes there’s a off chance they pull the model leaving you with no replacement parts to keep flying that quad. Besides the technology is still growing fast. So up to date gear comes every 6 months it feels like. 🍻
I have a blade 200 QX that i moved to a carbon frame. I want to upgrade motors for more power and Thrust . Any suggestions. And fly with 2 or 3s battery around 900 MaH ?
I am going to use a frsky R9 setup with 400 Mw of vtx and go long. The 5+ minutes of flight time should be optimal. I may put on a small gps and have rth capability.
I did the same upgrade but when I do punch out's, the video goes black and once I pull back on the throttle, the video feed comes back most of the time. What is the issue here?
Hey Justin, These are very close to the mods I wanted to do. The difference is I will use a unify nano 50mw, I can get 100 yards easy with trees in my way. My question is running 350mw how much did that affect flight time? BTW Albert kim is making a tpu mount for the runcam racer if I heard him right.
Hello! Great channel!! Could you help? I was on beta flight with my freestyle and hit the reset tab because I was having trouble with it connecting to my goggles. Now there are no modes and it won’t bind up. I think I wiped out the settings. Is there any way to fix this?? Re-enter the settings?? I just don’t know what to do. Thank you. I hope you could help me.
I don't think receiver type matters as much, as long as it's interfacing with SBUS it should be good to go. Just make sure Betaflight is set correctly.
Justin, just got in your suggested parts and ran into minor issue: any tips on unsoldering the existing VTX? It's a tricky one with 4 attached solder points that all pull together. Did you pull entire main board to desolder bottom? Solder sucker all attachment points?
Woof. Removing the VTX isn't easy. I ended up snipping the vertical plastic connectors. And then desoldering the left over pins one at a time once the VTX was gone.
WolfFPV , I haven’t done this mod yet on this Kwad but, I’ve done many like it on other Kwads with the same basic pin set up and I’ve always done it YOUR way with ease and no issues.
Hey Justin. Im keen to swap out the shitty VTX in my THFS, and as you seem to know whats what, Im hoping you can help me out for a minute please. I checked out the VTX you recommend here on Aliexpress, and it says it takes an input of 5v.. but you say to solder it to to the battery pads!?? I dont get it. Am I looking at the wrong VTX or am I missing something. I figure I have to run a 5v regulator from the battery, then to the VTX.
I enjoy your videos immensely bub! I have flown my TH FS for a few days now and it flies amazingly. I have a spare vtx from my old Hawk 5. In your opinion do you think it would work decently with the current camera that come on the TH FS? Keep up the good work!
Hello. I have just completed this upgrade. The only issue that I'm having is when the quad is disarmed, the camera view is shaky with white lines. One I arm the quad, it returns to normal. Any ideas?
I adjusted it in BF. It will only work properly when either VTX IRC/Tramp or Run Cam Protocol is selected. With the Tramp option looking the better of the two.

I plummeted for the TH FS and bought the hglrc fd vtx micro v1.1. It says input voltage must be 5v, but in you tutorial you say to NOT use the original vtx power pins (which are 5v + -). Which pads can I use as Im installing an xm+ so those power pads are used to?? thanks for any help.
Can we get a TinyHawk 2 custom setup?
Hey bud I bought a runcam micro Swift 2 would it be wired the same way? Sorry I’m new to this..
Just three wires. Yep.
Thanks bud for getting back to me I appreciate!! The camera is a little too big so I don’t think it’s going to work..but I got a runcam Nano 2 coming tomorrow..
Justin, for wiring the VTX, you suggest not using the existing pads on FC. I've worked thru the top and bottom of board and can't find Vbat pads. Did you go directly to battery pads?
D'oh. Justin, you note to solder directly to +/- battery pads in the video. Hope this helps other folks that weren't paying attention during class.
@@SPotter1973 yes, correct
Thank SHIT i found this video. I just bought the V1 of the TH FS by MISTAKE, thinking it was the V2. So i ordered a new VTX for it but then it looked like i wouldn't be able to replace the one that is on the bird. Glad to know i now can.
You’re welcome James!
@@dronecamps let me ask tho, how did you remove the stock vtx? Did you just clip it off between those two plastic headers?
I also would like an sd card in there in order to get cleaner video for more cinematic purposes but im mainly into fpv
And in you want to do the xt30 convertion you just need to strip the wires and soder the xt30 to it??
can i use the rxsr receiver instead the xm dustin?
I'm trying but not getting a signal
For everyone that is trying to Upgrade an R-XRS Receiver !!! You need to solder the Signal wire to the uninverted SBUS Singal (the Pad with the B on your R-XSR), then solder the other end from the Signal wire to the RX1 Pad on your FC. It is located on the Bottom of the FC. After that, go to BF and choose Soft Serial on UART 1, then choose Serial-Based Receiver and SBUS. Done
1.8mm or 2.1mm camera also pal or NTSC?
Nice bot grinder shirt get that from a kawd box no doubt and awesome upgrades and good video on how to make the mods nice rippage too!
Do you have to make any changes in bf for the new RX or is the onboard disabled automatically?
You would have to select what type of receiver your using in BF. SPI is currently selected.
@@JohnWhite84 ah ok. That makes sense.
Just started soldering, definitely beyond my skill level at this point but man do I want these upgrades lol
Practice on a Diatone Soldering practice board first. 👍🏻✔️
Drone Camps RC good call. I’m actually waiting for Grayson hobby to get them back in. Gonna save this video
Good luck! Keep us posted!
Nice upgrades man. Only thing I got to say about it that I don’t like is that antenna. I’m curious why you did not use a micro axii antenna. Regular Axii is honestly too big for that quad.
Drone Camps RC man this video inspired me, gonna order the eachine nano vtx. Looks like if I just follow your wiring directions I should be ok. Obviously at my own risk lol.
would it be safe to splice into motor wire when switvhing out bad motor for new motor and then heatshrink around the spliced wires or is it only recommended to solder straight to the esc even though the old wires to the old engine are still soldered onto the esc along with the old motor atm because i havent gotten to it just yet

Worthy! Any changes in the mAh recommended?
No real change in mah size. 300-450mah same.
As a sort of noob the upgrade process was super fast paced and hard to understand...got a Freestyle 1 on the way because my local FPV group got in on a group buy for $46 each😂
Are there any videos that maybe explain it a bit more in depth?
Do you know if they will be making replacement frames for the TH Freestyle
If I want to change the camera to runcam nano v2 and install 350mw mini vtx. I need to buy full range receiver? I use frsky taranis qx7 transmitter.
Can we run 2 inch props on it?
I have a blade 200 QX that i moved to a carbon frame. I want to upgrade motors for more power and Thrust . Any suggestions. And fly with 2 or 3s battery around 900 MaH ?
would sc2 connectors work Aswell just ordered some. 😅
I am going to use a frsky R9 setup with 400 Mw of vtx and go long. The 5+ minutes of flight time should be optimal. I may put on a small gps and have rth capability.
Accidently bought the older tinyhawk now I gotta learn how to solder, wish me luck😅
Original Looks like same camera as the mobula 7?
I did the same upgrade but when I do punch out's, the video goes black and once I pull back on the throttle, the video feed comes back most of the time. What is the issue here?
Is this ESC the same as the tinyhawk 2?
Hey Justin, These are very close to the mods I wanted to do. The difference is I will use a unify nano 50mw, I can get 100 yards easy with trees in my way. My question is running 350mw how much did that affect flight time? BTW Albert kim is making a tpu mount for the runcam racer if I heard him right.
I’m running 200mw. Not a big difference.
Will the 1X Flysky FS-i6X RC Transmitter work with this quad?
I don't think receiver type matters as much, as long as it's interfacing with SBUS it should be good to go. Just make sure Betaflight is set correctly.
So with the $100 extra for these upgrades, is it $90 better than the GepRC Phantom?
You can do for less than $100. Way less.
I have a question what type of battery do you use on this drone and how much c rating
What are your thoughts on the Lumenier TX5GS for a VTX upgrade?
Get the Nameless RC nano 400mw vtx !
Justin, just got in your suggested parts and ran into minor issue: any tips on unsoldering the existing VTX? It's a tricky one with 4 attached solder points that all pull together. Did you pull entire main board to desolder bottom? Solder sucker all attachment points?
Solder sucker first. Then I removed all pins with my Ts100 sideways on all pins.
Pull the board yes.
Great video. But are the weight measure right? you added a lot of stuff and its lighter...?!
HQ props made it lighter
Quick question do you have RSSI? Mine is stuck on 21? Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks!!
I'm getting the same here. Have you heard of a solution yet?
What was dimensions for mounting holes for VTX?
What were dimensions for mounting holes that Came with original
Super informative JD, questions is, this modded or the GEPRC Phantom?
Get this one prebuilt, and get phantom in parts.
Justin! Emax Tinyhawk Freestyle or Diatone GTB 229 Cube?!!!!
and here I am waiting for mine to arrive -_- thanks will do the vtx and xm+
What alternative Vtx will work with 2s? I'm having issues finding one small enough that will accept the 2s voltage and have smart audio .
TBS UNIFY PRO32 NANO 5G8 takes 3-13v. And is cheaper than the one he installed. And higher power.
When you add the receiver do you have to switch anything in betaflight?
Switch to sbus
@@dronecamps you. Are. The. Man.
@@dronecamps you've been so helpful, you've got a new supporter
Which settings to set when XM+ is installed?
RX is bound, but I do not get signal!
?
@@lookaroundfpv Thanks man!
I enjoy your videos immensely bub!
I have flown my TH FS for a few days now and it flies amazingly.
I have a spare vtx from my old Hawk 5. In your opinion do you think it would work decently with the current camera that come on the TH FS?
Keep up the good work!
I can’t remember... is it a smaller one or a 30x30?
@@dronecamps It is about the same size as the hglrc you had used.
Have i change default receiver in my tinyhawk ? (this grey anten)
Betaflight, change in Configuration tab under Receiver to Serial receiver and SBUS
