I’m switching my existing quads to ELRS and I was just trying to figure out which UART to use with this board and your connection diagram was spot on. Thank you very much! Just gotta warm up the soldering iron now :)
Well, I've officially got ELRS working on my TH2F! Thank you so much for all of your advice and for this great video. (I switched from BetaFPV to happymodel and it worked right away). Now the only thing I need to figure out is why flying this drone feels absolutely nothing like the Liftoff sim I've been practicing in.
Yeah I have 22hours in lift off and maybe 4 real lift flights with th2 and they feel so different. I haven’t crashed it yet so that’s a bonus I just can’t turn like I can in lift off 😅
Thanks for the video! Just slapped one on my TH. Works great! Only thing is the video goes out for the first 5 seconds when I arm it. Not a big deal at all just wondering if that is normal or possible fix? Thanks again!
@@ts13fpv thanks man alot !!!! going for it tonight ! tinyhawk f2 pads are so small my cheap solder wont heat them up fast enough sadly , ill let you know how it goes thanks for reply
How did you flash the reciever? I can’t get it to download after a bunch of attempts via the ELRS config tool. Thanks! The rest of the vid was SUPER HELPFUL!!!!!
Hi mate just bought myself one of these arrived today.. flight time trash 😂 just orderd myself some tx30s 😈 what’s the best mah and make of look to run 2s I can’t find nothing below a few thousand mah.. thanks in advance
Compared to crossfire elrs does have a little more of a steep learning curve . But the cost benefit makes a big difference . Your talking £30 ish for 1 crossfire reciever or a average of £12 for elrs . Like most things in this hobby I'd advise to watch a lot of videos on TH-cam. Joshua bardwell has a great set up guide for elrs that's shows you everything you need to know from start to finish . th-cam.com/video/J3Hg2f7RL1A/w-d-xo.html . Once you've done it once or twice it becomes easy .
Hey dude! Thank you for this video, im going to be doing this mod to my friends tinyhawk 2 amd also going to change the battery connecter for him to an xt30. Question, my friends ordered the frsky vantac 2 4ghz elrs receiver, would installing this be any different? Im hoping its as simple as the receiver you put on the drone lol
I just followed along with this, soldered everything correctly, and when I plugged in the batteries, the quad won't turn on. What could I have done? Is there still hope?
Sorry to hear this mate . First thing I'd try is looking to make sure you don't have a short or blob of solder somewhere it shouldn't be . If you can't see anything I'd unsolder the reciever and then see if it powers up then . Let me know ow how you get on
I ended up getting the whole unit to turn on, but now the issue is I cannot get the receiver in bind mode no matter how many times and speeds I try the unplug method. I don't see a bind option in betaflight either. Any thoughts?
There's a lot more to elrs than just plug and play unfortunately. I highly recommend to watch some more videos as it can become very frustrating when you first use it . I highly recommend this video from joshua bardwell th-cam.com/video/J3Hg2f7RL1A/w-d-xo.html it shows just about everting you need to know when first starting .
I will stop bothering you after this, but what method of flashing did you use for your receiver? I just ordered the same one you used to try this again. Thanks for your help
Your not bothering me mate , I'm glad to help . I used the happy model ep2 reciever . Your betafpv one should work if you flash it with a ftdi adapter first then solder it to the quad . I just flashed mine using WiFi
I have a TH2 freestyle but I can’t get it to power on. Not sure why. It was working before I stored the drone away. When I plug in the batteries nothing happens and when I try to connect it to my MacBook the lights come on but it’s not connote beta flight. Anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot it? Oh I’m a newb at this hobby.
Hey dude . Yeah that doesn't sound good . It's possible that the board has died has it had a crash or been wet befor putting away ? . But just to be sure is the cable your using to connect to betaflight a data cable or just a charging cable . May be worth trying some others first .....
@@ts13fpv - No the drone did not touch water or crash. I only tested it and realized I needed more simulator training so I put it away.. Also, the cable i was using must've been a charging cable only because I did get betaflight connected to it.. Now I don't know what i'm looking for in betaflight to see what the problem could be.. thanks for your response and assistance..
@@ts13fpv - Now that I have it connected to betaflight.. I see the batteries when it's connected.. but still when I plug in the batteries, no lights/sound. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
On ELRS website, I found this message: "There are Flight Controllers that will pull the RX pads LOW which will put the ESP-based receivers into Bootloader Mode unintentionally. A solid LED light on these receivers even with the TX module off is a sign they are in Bootloader Mode. If this is the case, rewire the receiver to a different UART." This is exactly what's happening to me. But you said we couldn't use RX2 & TX2 because they are used for the VTX. Does this mean if I were to solder on these pads, it would ruin the VTX?
Tx and rx 2 are already in use by the vtx so you can't use them . I never had this issue when I did mine it just worked straight away . What brand of reciever are you using ? I used a happy model on mine
If you look on betaflight in the ports tab you'll see the vtx is already using that uart . You can't put 2 devices on there as they'll confuse each other . You may need to flash the reciever using a ftdi adapter separately then solder back on after
I purchased the Happymodel EP1/2 same as yours, and I'm having an issue where I can get it to bind with my radio, but I don't see any input in betaflight. :( Any advice?
When I made this (a while ago now) i always had issues that the d8 controll link always failsafed befor the video link dropped out . This way I always still have controll of the quad as the video signal degrades
I forgot to mention in the video that the steps are exactly the same for adding and setting up crossfire. You'll just have a bigger antenna to mount
Thank you . I have been putting this off too long . Well , back to the soldering board .
No problem 👍

That's great 👍 this hobby can be frustrating at times but it gets easier. Sims tend to feel "floaty" but they are great for building muscle memory

Top work 👍 need to get another receiver module and do this to mine 😎
Haven't had a chance to fly it yet . Been 40mph winds for the last few days . I'm gonna do a follow up video/range test when I get out .
Very helpful. Thank you!
My pleasure 🙏

Hi . No video issues on mine . I'd check all the connections and solder joints incase there's something loose
Question , my motor pads are messed up on top side of the esc, could I wire the motors to the bottom ?
Absolutely 👍 but you'd have to check your motor direct afterwards and make sure that they are spinning the correct way .

Did I miss how you bound the ELRS? Did you use Betaflight for that too?
I used the pass phrase when flashing the reciever and module

If you are trying to flash the reciever using betaflight passthrough method then you'll need to solder the boot pads together on the reciever .

Should be the same , just check the pin out of the reciever . The square pad is ground then 5v , tx and then rx The xt30 is a good mod to do 👍
