….. I was honored to have played on Concerts with these Brothers way back in 1975… They were a Great Band even then .. I met the Drummer ,George , he gave me some insightful info pertaining to the Business .
This band raised me,when I reached adulthood,I went to an afterhours gathering in the more prosperous part of my hometown, and heard "Whiting H&G",it helped me grow to learn the depth of my educational pursuits had paid off,and showed me that I had grown into very sophisticated, charming, and technically advanced field and prospects of success were almost a guarantee,I'll always keep this song in my Playlist for extended multiple repeat cycles, Bless you all so much,By His Grace,In Loving ❤️ Gratitude.
In the late 80s Kool and the gang were in town. Me and friends went to see. One of my friends wife left the concert with JT. From that point on we all remember that as “Uncool and the Gang Bang. True story
One track that stands out for me is Father Father , a melody that has a great mix of vocals and instruments! and lyrics that made us pause and reflect .
I defy anyone to go to their show and not enjoy themselves. It's just not possible. An absolutely great band that's even better live! An excellent doc. Thank you!
They used to be a great jazz/funk soul band in the late 60s early 70s. This is when they were really great. Long before the crossover jungle boogie stuff. Their live at the sex machine is an amazing live album.
If you like them then what does it matter if a band gets an award or in the HOF. Oscar, Emmy,Tony ,or whatever doesn't matter except to the group of people who use them as a point of influence and control. A bunch of people, likely critics ,telling you who you should like.
Love their music, but their 70s R&B, Funk and Jazz cuts are 🔥. "Jungle Boogie, Hollywood Swinging, Winter Sadness, Open Sesame, Summer Madness, Ladies Night" to name a few.
This was pretty good! Thank You for the celebration 😀 I liked the music both with and without JT. The music was still there with just another layer. The best part is in the 80's you had the vocal track and the pure instruments track as singles😊
Now wait a minute they skipped over a lot of albums liked Music is the message Spirit of the boogie Love and understanding Open sesame The Force and Everybody's Dancin they should have talked about these albums in this video. Like songs like. 1 Love the life you live. From the Music is the message album or s song like. The album Cuts and the group that they discovered the Kaygees who have a song written by Ronald Bell called Who's the Man ( with the Master plan ) that also should have been included in this video
Stay Black Mookie....They did not need James Trailor....or whatever his name is. See that is the problem with the shytshow business. Prince is the GOAT !!!!
That's why I don't like it when yt people try and tell our Black American History of our Legends and Icons, I wished they would stick to telling their own white stories
Fantastic band..They were loved and cited as favorites by New Wave figures of Britain's New Romantic era like John Taylor the bassist of Duran Duran....But why on Earth did Quincy Jones and co-horts overlook this band when assembling the cast for the We Are The World Charity single back in 1985??🤔.. And ..Oh Thank you for this marvelous video..
@@phunkidrumaquincy was the sean combs of that era but you couldn't have too many black artists. That would turn off the masses of whites from lifting up the project
I saw them accept a lifetime achievement award and they didn't thank JT Taylor at all. Didn't even mention the man's name. That was trash when if not for him you wouldn't have those big hits or be iconic as they are. I am sure some older people will disagree, But i am an 80's baby born in 78 i didn't discover the funkier stuff til later.
A magnificent jazz funk band. Kool & the gang were a class act . The song summer madness was a magical mesmerising master piece. Funk jazz fans loved it. However as many great funk / jazz bands can testify, great music 🎶 doesn't always pay the bills and mortgage. So enter J.T Taylor and his cool 😎 voice. Kool & the gang pt 2 funk pop band were born , they crossed over . They crossed over backwards. Many lead vocalists of fab bands leave to crossover eg michael Jackson / Lionel Richie / luther vandross. Kool & the gang added JT . Taylor. They reversed out forward. It was still kool 😎.
After being used to the jazz-funk sounds, it took a bit to get used to the "Ladies Night" version of the band (I still don't care for that song). A quick note. The clip of "Dave Brubeck" is everyone from his band except Dave, a piano player.
No disrespect but I liked them better before JT I think they are one of the greatest bands of all time I know they had to go pop to make money Jazz and funk Wild and Peaceful is their greatest album and one of the greatest of all time one side Funk the other side Jazz who could ask for more.

Been digging their style & groove for decades. Among all their treasures, Let’s Go Dancing & Tonight always have a special sparkle that shine ✨
They're my favorite band 😃👌💯😁

One track that stands out for me is Father Father , a melody that has a great mix of vocals and instruments! and lyrics that made us pause and reflect .
Crossed over too! Celebration is a popular pop song.
I defy anyone to go to their show and not enjoy themselves. It's just not possible. An absolutely great band that's even better live!
An excellent doc. Thank you!
This docu has been covered several times already, but it is a good review for those new to this fabulous group.
Early 70,s Kool & The Gang was the best to me.
I had no idea they started as early as they did. Thank you! ❤😊
thanks a lot, dear! Come back to watch new videos 😁
oh really when they were BLACK!!!
The BOMB band! Grew up on em
Spirit of the Boogie!
Dennis Thomas' daughter was actress Michelle Thomas from the hit TV show Family Matters. She passed away in 1998.

Because Quincy was the puff giddy of his day. That is why Prince said fuk we r the world and the contrivity of the B$

They probably did show up, only to be turned away at the door due to overcrowding. They had 45 artists and another 50 had to be turned away.
Wild & peaceful forever And as a bass player I love Kool kool-aid funky groove Allah peaceful player forever
Their first three LPs are their best LP's IMO
Great Band! 16:39

Egos...either alcohol or drugs use used to control EGO or because of EGO...Egos is always the reason great bands split AFTER success.
Oh yes it’s ladies night
Oh what a night

I thought "Celebration" was written and recorded right after winning an American Music Award ? Hmmm
The Jacksons were no longer the Jackson 5 by 1979.
Jazziacs.....not the Jazz Birds 😅
No disrespect but I liked them better before JT I think they are one of the greatest bands of all time I know they had to go pop to make money Jazz and funk Wild and Peaceful is their greatest album and one of the greatest of all time one side Funk the other side Jazz who could ask for more.
Agree ! Before JT the band was grittier, jazzier, and Blacker.
Me too. Ricky West was the lead singer as far as I was concerned.
I disagree. What do you mean "pop". Their music was always nothing but soulful
They evolved with the times. They went more mainstream to iconic🎉
Agree 100%. The only song I like with JT is Ladies Night.
I hate Celebrate. Out of all of the amazing songs in their catalog, that’s one of their biggest hits. Damn shame.
Celebrate was played to death. For that reason, it's not one of my favorites either.
