I grew up in the UK during the 1980's and I hadn't heard about them, not even the name until I watched the Menendez Brothers documentary. I thought they were a fictitious band.

Part of what crippled EW&F… Back in 1980, the band spent over $1 million dollars on an audio/video studio to create their own videos to play on the new MTV which was catching fire and was THE medium that most top artists were on. After editing and mastering their videos, the took them to MTV. The executives rejected the videos, claiming it to be “too black”. (Funny, Michael Jackson was a top artist) It was quite a disappointment to the band and came at a huge cost. Years later, EW&F did finally get their videos played on BET but made less profit from them. (The songs weren’t actively on the charts anymore) EW&F we’re given a raw deal. It was an emotional gut punch as well as a financial loss.

I was given a cassette to listen to by a girl on a school exchange camp. It changed me. I wore that tape out. My kids even stole my CD years later, and listened to it.

Wow, this band played a huge role in my teen years and I loved all their hits!
