    Dwayne Wayans is alive. What kind of docunentary is this lol?

    • @JaneforShort
      @JaneforShort  ปีที่แล้ว +88

      He's not alive lol. He has a son named Dwayne Wayans who is alive though. In fact, here's a video where Marlon discusses Dwayne (though he doesn't name him). The interviewer asks about his favorite/least favorite brothers. Around the 1 minute mark, Marlon says "probably the dead one."
      th-cam.com/video/F3mA3Wh-bhA/w-d-xo.html
      Thanks for watching.
      P.S. I'm pinning this since it seems to be a pretty popular misconception.

    • @Slimchocolate11
      @Slimchocolate11 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@JaneforShort several sources say he is alive including imdb. I doubt his son was born in 1956. Youre youtube clip as proof is laughable.

    • @JaneforShort
      @JaneforShort  ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Why is it laughable when Marlon, Dwayne's brother, is the one that says he passed? His death is also briefly discussed in Tommy Davidson's memoir and David Peisner's history of the show. In his memoir, Davidson discusses Dwayne's son being a musical composer. This led me to the conclusion that Dwayne Wayans (the son) is the one that the recent credentials are for. You can also look at Dwayne's IG and you can see that he's a different (and much younger man) than the Dwayne that appeared on ILC.
      Also, based on my research, two sources claim he's alive: IMDB and Wikipedia. Other sources simply refer back to those two. If you have a credible source claiming he's alive, I'd love to see it.

    • @Slimchocolate11
      @Slimchocolate11 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Its laughable because as you yourself mentioned, he doesnt name him specifically. Ill go with imdb & wikipedia over a crappy amateur documentary.

    • @JaneforShort
      @JaneforShort  ปีที่แล้ว +57

      Considering that Marlon had 4 brothers and Damon, Keenen, and Shawn are still alive doing interviews and stand up, who else would he be talking about? You're not going with Wikipedia (which can be edited by anyone) and IMDB over me, you're going with them over Dwayne's literal brother and acquaintances. IMDB also says that Shawn is Dwayne's parent LOL. If you wanna be a contrarian, just say that lol.

    Between ages of 6-12 I hated being black. At 12, I tried to end it. The next-door neighbor’s dog saved my life. "In living color" made me realize that erasing myself wasn't the solution. The show allowed me to see the genuine problem which was the brainwashing from the toxic people in my life.
    Thank you to everyone who worked on the show. Your work and your artistry appreciated. We need that to motivate us to think differently and fight for what is right.
    “In Living Color” gave me the chance to embrace my identity and to express myself freely. Taught me finding humor in an unpleasant situation can heal the soul. Now, I am in love with myself and proud to be a dark skin black woman.

I can remember the exact night it aired, I was 10 and it was a spring night in North Philadelphia and everybody stopped what they were doing, corner boys, kids, parents and the entire block, found a house to go watch the first In Living Color. And, all you could hear was laughs bursting out of the screen doors the entire time it aired. My favorite was fire marshall bill and homie the clown!💯

    I'm blown away.. this show meant so much to me... It was 10 when it premiered... Tried to catch as many episodes as I could.. I could if the parents went to bed early and I would sneak downstairs and keep the TV low.. I would sit right in front of it.. It was a 13-in TV.... With channel buttons running down the side. t... Of course, no remote... Kids today will never understand the struggle of changing channels..
    And having to manually record episodes in a VCR..
    Honestly it was stay up late and try to be as quiet as possible.. which was super hard because everything was funny
    Or you find someone you knew that had it on VCR. And we're willing to let you borrow it.. although we traded VCRs a lot... It sucked because You would have to return it and unless you had a dual deck VCR cassette recorder.. which was the only way you could make a copy... We did this with all the shows...
    Yep, the trade VCR cassettes... For living color... kids in the hall
    .. later Beavis and butthead.. South Park... Sifl and Ollie... Wondeshosen...
    Kids these days will never ever know how this felt... Not a clue

    Something that I think they never knew they would do is my husband and I grew up in a poor immigrant neighborhood. Our grandparents immigrated to the United States from Yugoslavia and our parents also struggled through prejudice and being poor. We all would line up in front of our television sets and watch them on TV because they broke down the barriers of racism through comedy and showed us poor kids that we can make it too. We all loved and rooted for them and we understood that hard work could get you out of whatever poverty you were in. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore but I think times are going to change again. Thank you for sharing this.

    Thank you!!! Yes, I've been waiting for something like this. In Living Color was my favorite show when I was a kid. I was born in 82, so I was like 10 when the show peaked. It's one of the only good memories of me and my mother. She was a heroin addict and prostitute and I hated going to visit on the weekends with her (I grew up south Florida). But, there were those nights where we'd get pizza and watch this show and we would love it. Growing up I took a lot of that comedy from the show and used it in school to get attention. In middle school all the black kids would want me to do impressions and "act crazy" and I got most of it from the characters on this show. The favorite was me screaming "BAM" like Funky Finger Productions. I had all the DVDs when they came out, and it's so noticeable to see the quality go down in the later seasons. Especially without Damon. Damon was the biggest driving force of comedy on that show. I absolutely love that show and think it is light years beyond any other sketch comedy show I've ever seen. Nothing compares to it. It's ridiculously smart, funny, and over the top. Everything I love.
    And if you guys wanna laugh... like really laugh... Look up 'Tommy Davidson on Square Dancing!'

    Thank you for this great documentary! Very nostalgic! I was 12-13 yo when ILC premiered, and I was instantly hooked. It was a must watch for me and all my friends. Then later in the night was the Arsenio Hall show, which I also loved. ILC was the younger, hipper version of SNL, while Arsenio was the late night talk show for the younger, hipper demographic. Rumors were swirling about a possible ILC reunion show/season with most of the original cast agreeing to return. I read somewhere that FOX was all for it, but wouldn't give Keenan complete control of the show (production, direction, editing, etc) so he refused to do it. Maybe they can get a deal on another platform like Netflix or Hulu. 🤞

    I loved In Living Color as a young adolescent in the early 90s. And Don't Be A Menace..... still the best parody movie imo.

      IKR. My Great Greats on my moms side had 11 and were farmers in GA. I don't think it was a consistent every day thing. I know when Kim, Keenan, Damon, Shawn, Marlon, and a couple nephs were on OPRAH, Kim told a joke/story how their moms would trick them into cooking the family dinner.

    This was my favorite show to watch to take me away from my stress filled life in the early 90's🎉❤😂😊 I used to dance on stage to Heavy D songs and the crowds loved it🎉😊❤ I think this show paved the way for Dave Chappelle's show🎉😂❤

    A very insightful and thorough story of one of THE most innovative shows in television! I LOVED this program as it was soooo funny!! I remember many of the sketches and continued watching these talented ppl as they grew their careers. Told everybody I knew(before social media ya know) about the show. I'm up in Toronto Canada and the humour absolutely flew as the folks I hung with at that time, ate it up! Great work by Jane for Short in pulling all of this together. Will watch part 2 later. Thanks for giving history to one of the BEST shows. I miss seeing the Wayans family as they are an extremely talented group, and their love for each other is awesome to witness!!!

    Its funny that the narrator and even others around the show were puzzled by David Allen Griers Jamaican accent for the Hey Mon sketch sounding Irish but this is actually historically accurate as that is where the Jamaican accent actually comes from as the very first slaves in the North Americas and especially the Carribean were white and Irish. Yes.dont get it twisted, they were slaves, some also were indentured servants but treated exactly the same. They were eventually housed with the African slaves that the Europeans bought in African slave markets from the other Africans who had enslaved them. The use of Irish slaves started to die out early on because they could not physically withstand the relentless tropical sun like their datker pigmented African brothers could. But by then, the Irish slaves who had taught their fellow black captors english, had left their irish accent with them and then the accent evolved into what we know of today.

This was well put together and I appreciate learning so much about them that I did not know.
