    The defect is intentionally put their by spyderco. It signifies it’s a factory second which means it has some type of defect from the factory. Every year they have a factory second sale!

    The steel used on the compression lock side of the blade is a slightly higher grade of steel!! The higher grade steel on the lock side allows Spyderco to heat treat the lock side to a much higher value. As a result the actual locking portion of the liner doesn’t wear as quickly when coming into contact with a premium and likely very hard blade tang!!

    Getting a manix 2, that I plan on transforming. Got brass scales and gray titanium lock coming in for it, gonna put a small leather lanyard with brass bead shaped like a pirate head on it. Almost want to do the look in the video after watching, but to stay unique will go with the original one plan

      @Knathan's Knives soon as everything’s delivered and I conquer the taking apart of a manix I’d love to. Also found a Davy Jones bead for cheap so it’ll be way cooler then just some pirate design

    3 questions if you dont mind is your acid pure or diluted what kind of acid and after using the acid how did you get rid of the smell I have darkened a blade but the smell is pretty rough

    • @KnathansKnives
      @KnathansKnives  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's diluted with Apple Cider Vinegar(80% Acid 20% Vinegar). I use Ferric Chloride and after I etch/stonewash the blade, I'll wash it with water and then soak it in WD40 over night🙂

    Have the same digi camo scales and been thinking about changing them but I never realized there was a tool for the lanyard tube. Also want etch the blade and mine is s45vn would I have to leave it a couple more minutes or 7 would get about the same outcome?

    • @KnathansKnives
      @KnathansKnives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! I think 5 minutes should do it😁

  • @4rch3er19

    Old post, but the reason why only the lockbar side liner etched somewhat similar to the blade (different surface finish may account for the variation in color/intensity), is because sometimes manufacturers use the same steel as the blade. This may be solely on the lockbar side, or both sides, to prevent lock-stick from dissimilar metals interacting.
    My QSP gannet actually has 154cm liners on both sides, which suprised the shit out of me until I researched why. At first I was wondering why the liners were magnetic like the blade. (154cm is one of the stainless variants that are magnetic).
    EDIT: realized this knife technically doesn't have a traditional lockbar, but the theory is still the same.

    • @KnathansKnives

      Hello! The tool definitely makes it easier but I've removed the lanyard tube without the tool afew times as well. Only thing to look out for is breaking the scales, as long as you take your time you should be alright😁

    Would you be interested in possibly upgrading my Maxamet Native 5 Lightweight?..I bought it in the factory seconds sale and would love to swap the FRN scales with some micarta scales and possibly a new backspacer..the original FRN scales has a few pins in them instead of removable screws,so they weren’t meant to be removed..I’m not comfortable attempting this mod on my own
