- Cool technique that's been around since the start of Iceborne that not a lot of people know about. Nice little trick that gives you good reason to uses the slowest bugs available to greatly increase your burst damage. Thanks for over 1000 subs!

After having 700 in 8 different weapons i thought i'd finally complete my anime weapon tree and play insect, used it 200 times and didn't really know everything about it but still managed to speedrun with it, now it'll be even better with K.O really glad i got your vid as a recommended
Ngl I can see this technique potentially doing decent times on some monsters like Lunastra because her raw hitzones are so shit you might as well fully commit to an unga bunga aerial dive playstyle.
Seems very possible in a freestyle setup with a sever boosted Ice bug
@@MisterCups Check out Po Chi's Lunastra run. He uses almost exclusively goes unga bunga Descending Thrust. Thank you for explaining this, I could never really understand why Po Chi was doing so much damage but it was because he was using a slow bug. Cheers!

I almost have 200 hours in this game and have only used insect glaive... I did not know you could charge up your kinsect with the slinger. Bruhhhh

I used only the insect glaive for the first 60 hours of the game, but then I started to try out other weapons and the game instantly became a thousand times more fun

Despite not knowing this technique, I’ve actually been using it by accident. I always wondered why monsters would get KOed suddenly, even though I was aiming for tails or wings. Makes sense that my kinsect just smashes their head in. I’ll definitely be using this in a more situationally aware way now, so I can really take advantage of the multihits, since I do use a mid-speed kinsect.

This move really shines against monsters like Lunastra, R. Brachy, Diablos since they have huge weak spots that kinsects can hit, especially with the right element they do 100+ damage per hit. I mainly use the 2 Gleambeetles and the Vezirstag 2 forz, This move has really changed the Glaive playstyle.

This is the kinda thing I really like about IG, so many little things that aren’t explained and are learned through mastery. Probably one of the most rewarding weapons to master.

It's an excellent move, one I'm extremely familiar with. But for the slight increase in DPS you can lose that quite quickly if you're unable to get your buffs back reliably. The down time trying to guide the slow bug for triple buff outweighs the DPS on DT most of the time. Especially in multi-player and even more so on fast targets like Zinogre.
I figured this would work great against Safi but the time it takes to get that triple buff back is abyssal. Which is sad because the slow bugs look a million times more awesome than fast bug.
But if you're built like me, I'm running Safi/Teo infinite purple sharpness 100% Affinity with Resentment, I need my buffs ASAP because I'm doing sooooooooo much DPS I can't have downtime waiting on the bug.
Really badass move though, I just wish the bug would do it more often like whenever you mark a target or just randomly dive the monster to drill through it. That would be awesome.
Personally I just keep the dragon soul. Looks the best to me and gets the buffs easily.
I love videos like this because the inspire me to try new weapons. In all of my hours playing MHW I have hardly touched the insect glaive. This showcase has inspired me to give it a closer look.
I've put over 160 hours into Monster Hunter.
My first 60 or so hours of the game I used a heavy bow gun and for the last 100 I used a glaive. I've used the weapon for about 100 in game hours and I didn't know you could do this. I didn't even know you could activate your kinsect and get even more of a power up. I've beaten the Safi and Kulve Taroth I've completed the base game and expansion. My point is im not bad at the game but my god has this video's teaching have increased my dmg output by at least 30% .

THAT'S what my kinsect was doing when I was taking those jump shortcuts and doing the dive move! I was wondering why it released itself and just slammed into the ground right next to me, instead of staying down.

Oh wow thank you for this vid. I was playing with random people earlier today and saw an IG user using a slower kinsect and got so amazed when their bug was drilling through the monster. It was hitting through this glavenus soooo much. I was like "how is he doing that??????????"
I've been using the lvl 20 speed kinsects this whole time so I never noticed them drill through the monsters when I do that move since they only do like 2 hits when they're that fast.
I legit had no idea about this, I knew about the dive attack but not the drill recall. Haven't touched the IG since IB launched so it looks like I'll have to....take it for a SPIN.

ive noticed in certain situations in iceborn, i had a buff applied to my kinsect on a solo quest.
The buff made it so i could collect 2 bug buffs at the same time, i didnt have to call it back after i hit a red, to make it give me the red, i could also go for a white or orange and give myself both, and i couldnt figure out how i did that

I actually knew about the drill part but I didn't know what the bug part. I always go for speed since I'm want to get all my number gauges up and just be acrobatic in the sky but I will try that and see if it fits to my playstyle. Thank you

The gleambeetle medis is also great when partnered with the raging brachy IG because of the Spirit & Strength boost. It gets a high dmg uptime(especially with elem) if you use DThrust/marking well which can also net you 1-2 KOs even on a multiplayer hunt. It's also good for the drill too.
Yeah the KO bugs can put in some serious work. I've been using the blunt boost on blunt bugs and it works surprisingly well. Good insight Vince.

I knew about the new slam move and use it often. I never noticed my bug drilling into the monster
The only problem I can really see with this kind of setup is the lack of speed on the kinsect itself, which means gathering extracts will take longer and there'll be more downtime where you're not buffed.
yeah you have a point, you can always tweak it to your liking though. sacrifice some power for speed. It might work well with an ailment on your kinsect and on your glaive. You might hit less but you’ll get some damage and build status at the same time without sacrificing your speed.
I use that attack so much when i play insect glaive but never knew that the bug drills thru monsters like that 😲
buff the kinsect before you gather extracts. makes gathering extract easier since it can get two.

The kinsects' status only applies to dust explosions not to attacks(inversely the element damage does), the drill through doesn't produce dust.
That's correct, I mention exhaust from blunt damage to the body and ko to the head. You will get para from dust and glaive strikes. Was referring more to extra cc through ko and exhaust. Was poorly put tho.

Really annoying to gather the buffs with the slower bugs though. I tried the gleam beetle for a couple of days but couldn’t get used to the difference in speed compared to the foliacath lll forz
but, is this technique in the end doing more damage than a fast kinsect that you can let do its thing when you mark a monster.. and also considered the time it takes longer to get all 3 extract colors before you can do the vaulting.... i found that the slower kinsect takes much more time and also when the monsters are fast causes the kinsect to miss more often; resulting in taking more time to get all your buffs before you can attack... so im pretty curious if it has more profit to use a slow kinsect just for the kinsect drill attack ?

Are any poison glaives worth grabbing? I use infinant wisdom currently but wonder if I'm missing out on DOT against non dragons.

Is this "only" good against bigger Monsters? Like anjanath and bigger or is it still good enough against something like great jagras?
It really shines against the bigger monsters but yes you can still get some decent hits against smaller monsters. The barrel monster in the training room is very small and still was able to hit 5+ times consistently.
Is there a way to recall kinsect to the player character without having to manually press aim and use recall kinsect just like when we're gathering essences? 😞

At the Moment for example i have great fun using the hunting Horn 😄
But normally IG is my Main weapon that i use against all difficult Monsters.

Unfortunately there are no ways to get specific decorations, I would look to use teostra gloves and eye patch to max out tenderizer if you're still in world. Tenderizer should be a priority. Enjoy!

Nah, the only part that matters is the final hit of the dive, the kinsect will go there regardless of where you look.

Edit: I knew about the dive bomb, but didn't know the kinsect drilled through like that. I just assumed it was another way to place the pheromones.
I didn't know the mark was a pheromones until I saw your comment. So all this time, the insect is actually on heat and trying to copulate with the marked spot of the monster

More often than not a single hit of the multi hit descending thrust will do more damage than all of your hits of a triangle in the air.

I've been playing a lot of IG lately and have made a couple IG videos. The teostra drill clip in here was filmed a few weeks ago and I tweeted about it days before the Po Chi video was posted. Most likely just a coincidence.
