    Loved this. But as a Greek, I must say that all these terms have greek roots, and they make total sense. For example, "syncope", comes form the word "συγκοπή" (sigopí) which means the sudden (but usually temporary) loss of consciousness due to cerebral ischemia. Fainting... Anyway good work my friend! You inspire me to become a nurse any time soon!

    • @RedT...TheOriginal.NotANumber
      @RedT...TheOriginal.NotANumber ปีที่แล้ว +93

      True. Medical terminology is derived from Greek and Latin.
      A large number of people speak Latin-based languages (eg: Spanish, French), so it's a little easier to grasp some of the terms. You being able to speak Greek makes it easier as well, but not many people share that advantage.

      Heart attack comes from an occlusion in an artery, while myocardial infarction is preceeded by ischemia (low blood perfusion) that could be caused by an occlusion of the coronary artery but it's not the only cause of an MI. So we can't say heart attack=myocardial infarction

    These terms make perfect sense as secret code. This way you can talk in front of the patients, and they won't understand how sick they are, and won't freak out.

      Hi, EMT here.
      Most medical terminology is in, or derived from, Latin and Greek. If you know Spanish, that will go a long way toward helping you understand the Latin portions.

    • @amyoung101
      @amyoung101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RedT...TheOriginal.NotANumber Thanks for the explanation! But who is walking around speaking Latin fluently these days? 😂
      And my Spanish is high school level with a touch of conversational contemporary. So basically, I’d ask for a feathered ink pen to sign the check for my chicken taco salad 😂😂😂

    • @MaryGatdula
      @MaryGatdula ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@amyoung101 well that trumps my spanish. All I can do is ask if Susanna is home and if she's in the kitchen!
      I once tried to ask my little granddaughter for a kiss in spanish, but I got confused and asked her for a shoe. She looked at me like I'd gone crazy! LOL

    • @amyoung101
