House was a jerk but he and his staff knew what they were doing. Also any time he told a patient they were an idiot he was 100% correct. With his actual cases he said it when they were refusing treatment or lied to him and his team. When he said such things to his walk-in clinic patients it was because they were literal idiots who had trouble executing simple logic.

I have a congenital spinal defect that crippled me at 44. Which led to weight gain.. The 1st Neurosurgeon I saw agreed the lamenectomy would help, but refused to operate because I was "fat." I left in tears. My doc never referred to him again and my next doc, performed my surgery. Saved my life. I've lost 90 lbs so far, doing yoga, active again, and no more walker or cane. Some docs have no tact.

In regard to having to watch or look up info before using it: in nursing school they actually taught us to use the hospital intranet to "verify the steps of the procedure" before doing it... by printing it out and having it with us at the bedside. It was actual hospital policy too, so we actually DID by policy have to look stuff up before doing it!
