I'm an unashamed train nerd so I'm just gonna throw a few ideas at this. First, (most) railway vehicles have very free-running bearings, so on the level it only takes a lot of force to overcome static friction (aka "Stiction") to get them on the move. It's actually stopping them that's a lot harder. But now consider this: By using lever bars under the wheels, just a few men can move a 130-ton locomotive (with some puffing and panting of course) to get the loco into motion. When a shunting locomotive (USA: Switcher) isn't available, this method is sometimes used to move rolling stock in workshops.
Yea I was thinking this too. Probably don't take too much force to move somethign that's basically designed to be moved long distances at as low amount of energy as possible.
Aptly put. Making them run is easier compared to stopping them from rolling. The bearings are so free that a standing wagon has to have its brake applied permanently otherwise it can slide and gain speed in no time.
В Сибири бывают переделанные грузовики используемые в качестве как ЖД дрезин так и как маневровые. К счастью в последние годы от них уже почти избавились

Obviously they are just going slowly and carefully in this video. If this train went 140km/h then that car would have been in a death trap position. What they did in this video was already dangerous.... if the car derailed and got hung up onto the tracks or bridge banister, the train cars would have made a pancake out of the car.
Each Compartment weight = 20 tons or 20000 kgs approx Total no. Of compartments= 3 Total load = 60 tons or 60000 kgs Coefficient of rolling resistance = 0.0019 dry rails and dry wheels F = Crr X N F= force to be applied Crr= coefficient of rolling resistance N = Normal force = 0.0019 X 60000 = 114 kgs So, you need 114 kgs power to pull these 3 compartments and a powerful SUV is more than enough for that. I am a mechanical engineer and I designed a winch for my previous employer that can pull 27 loaded wagons weighing 90 tons each for a distance of 1 km at a speed of 8 meters/ min reason for unloading. Motor used was 3 phase induction AC motor 75 Hp 1440 Rpm and it is doing its job pretty well for the last 7 years.
Actually its a Gimmick. Train run on a mechanical concept of very less friction between wheel and rail. For instance In India A dozen of people pushed a 120+ Ton WAP-4 Locomotive to a certain distance.
A car's brakes have way more stopping power than that the car has engine power. What it can get going, it also can get it stopped. The driver just has to make sure to be gentle on the brakes not to lock the wheels up. And yes it will take a long distance to stop it.
A 100-ton train does not require a lot of force to pull it because the rail track generates very little friction and due to the train's moment of inertia.

Believe me, even a small car engine can pull on rails. The real potential is breaking. Traction can pull even 100 wagon, but for breaking it needs very 2 very high compressed air with a long channel of upto 500meters.
Regarding the braking, it works the other way around; You need the air pressure to release the brakes before you can start driving. All rail cars have this, it’s a fail safe mechanism. If a hose ruptures then the train will stop automatically. These hoses are built into the rail cars, it’s just a matter of connecting them. They probably used the small loc at the other end of this experiment train to provide the air.
This is fake. The discovery started moving the engine on slop and once the momentum is developed in train nothing can stop the motion until an external force is used to stop it.
