I saw a US news report where they DNA tested a variety of fish species from numerous American restaurants. Less than 20% of the "sea bass" they tested was actually sea bass! It's one of the most commonly misrepresented fishes because of the cost.
Ooh,Sea Bass! Very nice. I like grilled sea bass with chilli oil and herbs, but I'm posh anyway. This was a nice change from the usual haddock or cod for traditional fish and chips.
for sea bass that looked really good value you still need vinegar whatever the fish, i think food looked good and cheaper than most chip shops ,id prefer skin off though 7 out of 10 from me on looks
The price seems right but I'd sooner pay a couple quid more for fresh cod from the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. Here in the United States, Chilean sea bass is marketed under the name of tilapia. Thanks for another nice review.
I had rock chips recently as not often available in most chippies and must admit was disappointed as was quite dry. Sitting around freezer for a while, maybe. Your sea bass looked very nice which if genuine is again not something I've come across in most chippies. I'd certainly go far bass if I come across it's availability. Your two portions looked lovely crisp batter as it should be and £14 certainly good value I thought.
Looked a well nice bit'o fish.See from the comments that some folks doubt it's Sea Bass😮 I can't comment on that, except to say. Fraud.Trades Descriptions Act.Local Tradeing Standards ,would take a very dim view😢😮However Looked a nice sharp clean plate of food. A good portion of chips& peas. Now the " fish 🐠 " Two nice sized fillets, with a good looking texture .Skin on or off debates 😢 i don't have a preference, but would say.Sea Bass skin is a little thicker than some fish yet if pan fried without batter it can be cooked crispy, like a Salmon fillet and be quite tasty. But battered 😮not 😱 sure.Bottom line, we need more diversity in fish. If it works brilliant 😊 The cost of your meal was a fantastic bargain 😊 Cheers Allan&Family
Hi from Sunny (for now, rain on the way Saturday) Los Angeles 🙋♀️ Those were deffie oven chips! The uneven colour gave it away! Interesting that you mentioned the tartar sauce giving Big Mac vibes. Contrary to what most people think, Mac sauce is Not 1000 Island dressing. The "secret sauce" on a Big Mac is based on the French tartar sauce: Remoulade. The sauce that Is a modified 1000 Island is the "Spread" (that's it's name) used on the burgers, grilled cheese sandwich and Animal Style fries served at In 'n Out.
Posh! It’s standard pub grub. The chips are probably frozen, certainly not homemade cooked from scratch. I have my doubts that is even Sea Bass as well as it would be more expensive than that, and especially for two fillets. According to the menu it’s only £1.50 more than the haddock. Nah,the price difference would be more than that.
Lovely to see you as always, thank you for doing a review on one of my most favourite of meals. How lucky to find sea bass on a pub menu & to have 2 fillets too included in this meal, looked lovely, i would have loved to be eating this! Definitely worth what you paid for this, having smarties with the tea was certainly different too! Thank you for this excellent review, take care 💜 XX
That Fish and Chips looked anything BUT posh. I'd say it wasn't anything to write home about. Please try Thompsons in York when you are across that way. Sublime batter, and for £15 you get a big sized Haddock with peas or curry sauce, which is home prepared and bread and butter and a pot of Yorkshire Tea.
Sea Bass best pan fried or baked and not suited to deep frying in batter as it's too thin and the reason flat fish usually just pan fried in a dusting of flour or breadcrumbs. Glad you seemed to enjoy it but just novelty pub grub mate 👍
Personal preference. Won't eat fish skin. The only protection for the fish meat from the filthy outside world. In all, there is nothing to write home about, but thanks for taking us along. Appreciated.
I will lose my Southerner card here in the US by saying I prefer seabass to fresh water bass. Not that fresh water bass tastes bad. It tends to be a very tasty fish. But bass have a lot of small bones that, if you aren't careful, can get over looked and having a small fish bone jabbed into your gums sort of detracts from a meal.
My local fish and chip shop also does Sea Bass and I've often thought of ordering it but always resort to haddock or cod . One of the best meals lve ever had was in Asia ..a whole sea bass de scaled deep fried in a wok so the skin was crispy served on top of a vegetable thai green curry 😋
Never heard of fish & chips with sea bass before. Maybe it’s due to being in a posh area! Worth a go I’d say. Hope you don’t jinx the pub like you did with the Lawnswood Arms which is now closed 🙁
I doubt that is actually sea bass. More like pollock maybe? Looks like normal reheated factory-produced food, delivered frozen and/or shrink-wrapped from an industrial estate to the restaurant and reheated in a microwave or fast oven.
Looked great to me. Just got back from Australia where we had barramundi (Australian sea bass) and chips. Fantastic. Try Turners of Spalding, Lincolnshire. They sell quite a few different types of fish with chips.
What did you think of this fish and chips?
Comment below 😀
missed you did you have to take a week off because you spent all your money on the last lobster & steak breakfast?
Yes hahaha, I needed to save up again
It was lovely to see Sea Bass being used!
I love sea bass❤
Does not looked posh tinned peas frozen chips and fish looked frozen

Thats interesting to know..we cant believe anything these days😮..i love 'sea bass' or whatever it really is ?🎣🤭👍
Where’s the posh?!
That looked very nice. I like a bit of sea bass. Great idea to put a handful of smarties on the teaspoon.
Nice that mate, bit different too with it being Sea Bass. Jockeys Whips (Chips) looked lovely 👍
It was!
Ooh,Sea Bass! Very nice. I like grilled sea bass with chilli oil and herbs, but I'm posh anyway. This was a nice change from the usual haddock or cod for traditional fish and chips.
Yes..I love skin on..flash fried and just on a bed of mixed olive oil salad leaves..yum 🎉

Looks very nice, I do like sea bass 😋 …. Smithy
I do too
At £14 brother as I looked @ it that was definitely basa totally different fish
I'd be happy to pay. The fish looked gorgeous, great tea service and a few smarties, what's not to love?! ❤😊
I know! Its a great meal

Here herr 👍
am Dutch, eat fish and chips once a week, NO lemon or vinager... it is not presented or liked that way..
Without the vinegar it would taste of the oil it's fried in and most places use a vegetable oil blend that tastes bitter these days
I think it looks very good. The stupid comments about factory frozen food shows that some people have simply no idea of food 😮
Agreed👍
The fact that you guys comments are in a huge minority leaves me wondering exactly who is leaving stupid comments and knows nothing about food! 👍

Sorry Sir, that looked SO SO bad. 6 quids at most LOL. They have robbed you again. What are you? Robbed-in Hood?

I guess thats why it tasted like big mac sauce!
If you go south to London they usually have a fish called Rock on the menu. Also you can find Skate and plaice.
Your fish called rock is actually dogfish, could be one of several varieties.
Rock is better known as huss.
First comment now we definitely deserve a name reveal what’s your name haha ❤
Maybe one day! 😀
Looks absolutely decious thanks for another great review and video mate 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you 👍
glad ur still alive, after your week off of eating
Never tried sea bass, but will give it a go after seeing you enjoy your meal. Thank you xx
To enjoy it at it’s best, don’t eat it covered in batter! Leave that to the cods and haddocks.😉
Hello, EIE
Looks delicious 😋 I would definitely order the meal. Everything looked awesome. Superb video again. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks so much! 😊
Yes it was worth it 👌
I agree
I do love 'sea bass'...expensive for the size from The Fishmongers, but a nice change. Ty for sharing 🎉( skin on for me)🎉

I was surprised when I saw sea bass so I just had to try it
Ember Inns is owned by Mitchell and Butlers based in Brum.
Yes definitely worth it,
Sea bass is quite expensive.
Meh, Nothing special for the price.
that looked well nice, i love sea bass.
It tasted great

Everyone…please look up Patagonian Tooth Fish. The answer will surprise you.

Me too 😀
@@everydayimeating3407 good man, it's good for you.👍🏻
Have to say didn't like the look of this one. Chips weren't nice looking and the mushy peas were unmushy!!
Has to be Yorkshire tea!
If it smells like fish, it's normally Pollock.Fish shouldn't smell. It should be a clean sea breeze
🐟🫛🍟😋
My local very nice to see
Looks delicious 😋
It was!
There's no way those peas aren't straight out of a tin. You can tell from a mile away

I can't believe it, I wanted to go back and try out some other food
@@everydayimeating3407 Apparently it will reopen later this year as a Hickory's Smokehouse - whatever that is!
Could have done with more chips. hate the way they use space on the plate for tartare sauce and the piece of lemon
I remember went to.brother in Canada years ago was hand cut chis and they used hake was very tasty
Would have been nice to be told where this was, not just the pub name.
Halibut is my favorite😍❤🎉
That was a real bargain, I see they left the skin on the fish too
Have you tried sous le nez in Quebec Street?
It is normally capers in Tartare sauce.
Very nice
It was 😋
It's a dive and the food is rubbish
avoid avoid as Daleks would say
I don't like fish but this looked really nice and I thought it was worth the money nice place as well
It was a delicious meal 😋
That looked really good and the smarties with the tea was a good touch 😊
I like the smarties too 😋
Seen better
What fish was it? A small one.Posh = Expensive
Lovely, Where is this Place?
It is in Leeds
Your sound is awful on t.v
Don't be so fu g rude, you plank!!
Wow! That crispy battered fish had my mouth watering. Looked absolutely delicious. Quality wins every time. Well worth it.
The batter was so light and crispy
I doubt that is actually sea bass. More like pollock maybe? Looks like normal reheated factory-produced food, delivered frozen and/or shrink-wrapped from an industrial estate to the restaurant and reheated in a microwave or fast oven.
Agreed, one does not normally eat the scaled skin of a bass, also the flesh looked too chunky.
@@JohnJones-cp4whI've had sea bass many times and they de scale them but keep the skin on just as they do with red snapper
Looked great to me. Just got back from Australia where we had barramundi (Australian sea bass) and chips. Fantastic.

Oh yes ! My dtr lives in Perth WA..the variety of fish was/is fantastic...I was in 7th Heaven 🎣👍
😋😋
Cute.
Last time I had sea bass it had worms in it, and it made me ill. I haven't eaten any fish since then.
What a disgusting story 😢
Why didn't you take the worms out
@@trebsscan9644 I only noticed after I'd found half of one on the plate. I must have eaten them bar one.
@@trebsscan9644 I shouldn't have had worms in my food in the first place.
posh my ass 😂
Thats a nice change. Think I would go for that. How delightful to see someone thinking outside the box.
Its a nice change and it worked too
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.
I enjoy most of your reviews they are quite good fun but it might be a good idea to at least give us a clue as to where these places are.
I usually put the location of all the places I visit in the video description
Skin on is a no no, plus, my fish has to be Haddock with salt and vinegar
