  • The new YSS rear shock has arrived, just wonderful news. I really wanted a Red one but Brook Suspension said that the standard was black. A red spring could be fitted at an extra £80. Imagine my delight when opening the box and there is a glorious red spring, just a work of art. So now I can finish the bike, everything will be complete, that is if I can reach the floor...why am I so nervous!

    Thanks to you Normski I finally managed to replace my 1150GSA suspension with a refurbished original unit
    I did take the exhaust off
    PlusGas is amazing stuff
    Unscrewed the lower retaining bolt so far before the ratchet handle fouled against the exhaust stub, fortunately there is a hole in the socket the right size to slide a screwdriver through to turn it in a tight spot 😁
    Job done and all tightened up to the correct torque settings!

    A video filled with high suspense and tension ,Norm ! . Absolutely delighted with the shock ,and how you have made changes to get a manageable seat height .The sidestand foot will be a great help when lifting the bike upright with a heavy load of fuel .

    The side stand is made to support the weight of the bike, not as a mounting aid.

      Hi Banana, I just cannot understand what you mean so I watched my own video again. I think you are maybe a little mixed up. At the end of fitting the new shock I put the seats on and get on the bike stepping on the riders FOOTREST as most riders do. Not the side stand, which as you say would be very bad, even if you can work a way of doing it?

      @@normski3091 'Shall we have a look through the arched window?' My point is you are expecting the sidestand to resist (long term) most of your mass and most of the bike and luggage mass as you mount it with the sidestand down. Was it designed to do this? Try googling 'motorcycle sidestand strength'

      I’m with out my baby GSA right now I bought over from Canada with me and oh what a process that’s been now waiting for a conformity test at there Derby location, it should pass there’s nothing for me to change now the main thing was the Speedo change from Km to Miles that was a beemer ouch but compliant now lights all good too. Now it’s bite nails time till that’s done then hopefully I get my UK V5 and plate yaAAaa

      Hi Phil, ha ha the two things I hate, hitting the starter motor after a big renovation and then the first ride 🤷🏼‍♂️.
      When I rebuilt my sons 1200GS after the engine blew up it started first time. Took it for its first ride and filled the street with white exhaust 😱
      Rang Mark Croft who changes my tyres with his mobile service, he is an ex superbike mechanic, and he said take it out in the middle of the night and blast it at full revs 😵‍💫.
      He was right, the silencer was coated in oil from the engine explosion, after 20 minutes it was all burnt off🤗

    • @normski3091
      @normski3091  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul...yes and it was wonderful EXCEPT still too tall for me. I had myself measured and I have gone from a 30" inside leg to a 29", that doesn't help. It is a lot better but I am on the balls of my feet and it makes me nervous at every junction. You will see the ride on TH-cam 8am Monday. Loved it so much I have an appointment with BMW Monday to 'fit' me on a new one. Although I built this 1150GS for me and spent a lot, I have decided to order a new 1250GS Triple Black and will trade in my 2018 1200RT and sell the 1150GS...sob sob. Will be a bargain for someone as in total it has cost me just under £6000...madness I know. BMW tell me that although on paper the GS bikes are all 850mm high the older models such as the 1150 have wider seats and can easily cost you an inch or so!

    Hi, I have a standard r1150gs and my original rear shock absorber is totally worn out, I wanted to ask you kindly how you felt about your YSS suspension, is it a quality suspension? Do you recommend it to me? Thank you

    • @normski3091
      @normski3091  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Delantero, YSS are not in the same quality bracket as shocks like Ohlins etc, but they are affordable and in my experience very well made. I first fitted the YSS to my sons 2005GS, the one that blew up, and it was really good. I do not think you will be disappointed if you install one. Be careful because the first rear shock I fitted to the 1150GS there was no way you could adjust the shock once it was installed. Had to return it and order the one with the cable and adjuster. Even the YSS dealer did not know it wouldn’t work on a 1150GS😵‍💫

      @@normski3091 Thank you, you were very kind, one last question: I saw that they gave you the red spring, is there a difference from the black one or is it just a question of colour? thanks again

    • @normski3091
      @normski3091  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I wanted a red spring but the dealer said black was standard and a red spring would cost a lot extra. However when I ordered the shock with the control on the cable, which was also going to be black, they emailed me to say this had to be ordered from the YSS factory in Thailand and would take 6 weeks, which it did.
      When it arrived it had the Red Spring, no extra cost🤗
