- Hello and welcome back to Rock Paper Shotgun. Now, as we've all learnt to expect from FromSoftware games, chaotic mech shooter Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon is devilishly difficult at times. The HUD, the intricate ballet of bullets and explosions, the strange movement of your mech... Let's just say it's not a terribly beginner-friendly game. But with the right tips and a focused mind, you'll soon be able to tear apart the competition and complete missions at S-Tier rank in minutes.
In this video, we've put together our list of 20 essential Armored Core 6 tips and tricks for beginners. If you're struggling against a particular mission or enemy, this guide will furnish you with all the practical advice you’ll need to turn the tables and become a top-tier mechanised hunter. Before you know it, you’ll be able to get all of the Rubicon you desire without having to ask your Dad to buy you a can from a big Sainsbury’s or a random fish and chip shop. That’s a UK-specific joke for you all there.

A reminder that this game has a lot of replay value due to the decisions made throughout the campaign, as well as the unlockables of New Game +.
One of the best parts of the game
Not to mention that in new game plus there’s gonna be new missions and choices available
Yup!@@walczak9862
Plus replaying missions still pays you $$$. I've been replaying early missions to hone my skills and earn extra cash lol.
@@DarthRaver-og7qqI was hoping that would be the case because being able to upgrade my character in Elden ring early really helped me get though the game
Absolutely heinous colour scheme. Excellent work
Thank you, I worked really hard to make the most garish thing possible.
Reminds me of the fuchsia metroid
@@rockpapershot It's like looking at a poison frog.
@@rockpapershot to fair, mine looks like its been swimming in tar, so could be worse
One thing people need to remember is this game WILL require you to be constantly swapping out parts of your mech in order to get past things, that's why it gives you the option of going to the assembly menu without having to leave the mission.
Yeah learned that the hard way with Balteus. I just kept dying and repeating "trust the build" lol but then completely changed my build and got it 2nd try
I also like how parts are sold at cost..
Just have different builds ready and change builds when needed (also an option given when mission failed). I have been playing since AC2l, as a tank just switching out a part or two when needed, and it wasn't until this one after going through the first time I went through again just trying out as many, and in a bunch of cases as light (not my comfort level top say the least) as possible. Way more fun, doesn't feel as grindy, and your skills improve better.
Not true, you can just equip double songbirds and double gatling to tear through everything
@VampiricNightMachine Even having that option there were times it wasn't enough. Plus, eventually there ain't much fun playing that way.
Veterans keep mentioning we shouldn't be afraid to adapt our mech if we run into a difficult mission. What I want to know is, how do you figure out if you're struggling because of the mech, or because of your own incompetence?
Veterans keep mentioning they're veterans 🙄
That’s the challenge, I think. I guess the question to ask yourself after failing a mission is: was my mech making the mission harder than it needed to be? It’s something you get a feel for.
@@TheGallantDrake Fair enough, I guess the more I play the better I will get at understanding why I'm failing.
you should say its because of your incompetence AFTER you have tried different mech load outs
well if you try like 12 different loadouts and end up having the same outcome, it's probably a sign
This video will absolutely be instrumental in welcoming new Ravens to the flock.
I'M READY SIR!
Like me! So far im really enjoying the game but some aspects have been overwhelming. Ive unlocked tons of guns and parts and I just dont know what to use. Also I dont really have any idea on what type of mech build is best for each situation. The double jointed lightweight build seems pretty fun but im not so great at avoiding taking dmg and usually get rocked even in my mid weight build. Does anyone have any recommendations of strong weapons and a build type that I can focus on using for the early game while I figure the rest out as I go?
@@kreedsutherland4207 You sure you're not Red Gun?
@@Veldazandtea No sir! G 13..... I MEAN RAVEN READY FOR DEPLOYMENT!
5:03 if using melee as your damage dealer, consider bringing stagger weapons to lock the target down first if they are particularly dodgy
I'm building a mech based off farsight from 40k

"That's a UK specific joke, that I don't think was worth putting in"
LOL I have no idea what a rubicon drink is but this made me laugh out loud, great video thank-you
Guys I 100% laughed hard at your joke and it was absolutely worth putting in, I’ve been there getting Rubicon at 12am with some fried chicken 🍗☺️
Loved it along as I can remember!
I have this personal rule where I only allow myself a single launch priced title per year. And for the first time in over two and a half decades, I didn't use that choice on a Mainline Final Fantasy game when given the choice.
This Raven is ready for combat
Final Fantasy can wait for its first big sale
Since I moved to PC from the Switch, I'm the same. I've scarcely bought a full price game in years, but I just can't wait for AC6 to go on sale. I love mechs and I love Sekiro. Having a mech game made by the team who developed Sekiro, I can't pass that up until a sale
@@jeff3221 One of these days I'll save up and get a computer that doesn't run games on par with a potato.
As for full price games, Its almost never worth it for me. I've got enough of a backlog I'm never lacking for choice. Never mind those games I go back and replay again every few years. The one launch title for me is just a treat... And in some cases a lesson in managing expectations (Cyberpunk 2077 anyone lol)
But that said, my memories of Armored Core back on PS1 rank right up there with FF7. I'm confident I'm going to enjoy tf out of Fires of Rubicon.
@@Frankenmuppet yeah I finally committed to getting a good pc during lockdown. Figured it was now or never and I genuinely think its saved me money long term. Nintendo games almost never go on sale, but if its on steam, it goes on sale. You may have to wait a year like I did for Elden Ring and the souls games, but it will eventually be like half or more off. I think I got Doom Eternal for the same price as Hollow Knight haha
Welcome back Raven
I got a ill a few years ago and couldn't eat anything without throwing up, when I was through the worst of it, the only thing I could stomach was can after can of lychee Rubicon. It saw me through a rough few days. I will never forget Rubicon. I appreciated the joke.
The first boss, the helicopter killed me at least 5 times before i finally beat it.
Edit: a pink AC. I dig it lol.
Only 5? I sucked worse than i thought coming back in lol.
came for RPS content, stayed for the devilishly funny rubicon drink joke
I’m surprised it’s not been made before, made me chuckle
Get in the robot Shinji.
I have never played an AC game in all my years of gaming, currently on the tutorial mission. This mecha combat shit is fun. Can't wait to see what I can get into with this
An added tip. You can also lock on target by pressing R3. It helps a lot when fighting bosses.
I think you missed something.
Not only can you see enemies through walls by scanning, you can also target them with missiles which is perfect for anything you have that shoots into the air before hunting down your target. This works in PVP as well
awesome, thanks for mentioning this! 👍😎👍
"take to the air and stay there." Oh, sir, I would love nothing more than to do that but I keep RUNNING OUT OF FUCKING ENERGY
When using melee, utilize your burst for closing distances, the basic melee attack has a very limited range dash
as a vet coming to watch this. Thanks for making a video like this. Its awesome seeing people welcoming newbies
I am sooooooo going to make my mech look like burning/god gundam!!!!
Hope they have a burning hand melee weapon for you haha. I'm going to make The Origin RX-78-2. I can't decide on the weapons tho, definitely going to have the left shoulder be a grenade launcher tho
Tip 1: when in doubt, equip 4 miniguns and demolish any opponent
And use the Spring Chicken legs for ultimate heavy armor agility
I'm just glad you called it a can of pop and not soda.
I very much appreciated the Rubicon joke. As a UK man, I feel seen.
Something I like to do when facing off in the arena is preloading all of my weapons for the initial offensive.
When the opponent comes into locking range, I'll achieve lock on, then preload my right hand weapon, do an assault boost toward it, release my shoulder locking weapons during assault boost, then when I get in melee range I'll assault boost kick, at this point it usually has staggered them. Then I'll fire my charged right hand weapon and follow up with a dual slash of the sword.
Building combos like this I guess you could call "rushing" really takes a toll on the enemy.
Bro made his Armor to actually look like Rubicon Passion lime flavor can 😭
Cant beat a can of tropical rubicon with your donner meat and chips doused in chilli and garlic . UK stand up and be counted..
Salute.. mad ting fam .
I'd like to see a bipedal with tank tracks on each foot kinda like roller skates
On the far end of the scale, I’d love to have an artillery style leg that can bolt itself to the ground or wall and turn you into a stationary cannon, like the siege tank in StarCraft 😊
@@iatwiatw this game is all about staying on the move so that probably wouldn't work
You should do a video series with Alice B, you two are both just delightful on video.
Going right back to my Quad missle boat with duel zookas. Gonna blow my load on everything
I just cant believe they make you fight that helicopter before even getting to training.. that thing took my lunch money and shoved me in the lockers for a while..
I find it so funny how you can have a big pink mech completely changing the whole tone of the game😂
Mostly good I would just be wary about taking your fight to the air. This is extremely AC type dependant. I go for speedy medium bipedal ACs so I stay on the ground most of the time to maximize EN recharge for QB exploit. Use air combat if it's beneficial for your build is all.
Thanks for your guides . I played all the souls games and elden fing is my favorite but armoured core never played and oh my days it is tough . I appreciate your guide like with the homing missiles ,i thought you had to hover the cursor over the enemys you was locking ontoo . Thats just one example
Actually, here in Canada, Rubicon used to have sparkling litchee juice cans. I thought they were pretty good, if on the very sweet side.
The Rubicon joke was worth it 😂 0:50
Best AC game I played literally reminds me of ACFA with its fast gameplay
So there was the Rubicon advert joke but even funnier was that the ad preceeding the video was for Rubicon snow equipment.
Rubicon joke was worth it
The UK specific joke really got me. 😂
good job ❤
What u mean?! I need a 12 pack of that rubicin right now. You better start exotic pop uk
Not sure if someone mentioned this one yet; when using big guns such as a rocket launcher on certain legs, be careful when you fire, your mech has to assume a stance due to recoil and the overall weight of the gun, firing at the wrong time can leave you open to heavy attack, at wrong times this can cause you to lose the battle when the boss is very low HP
Was the runtime duration 13:37 intentional? I gotta know.
Thanks for this vid!
To be honest. I dont really change my build because i mainly focus on improving my gameplay first. I already got too used to being nimble so it is weird for me to change immediately
I’m from Britain. The can of pop joke was definitely worth it.
I finally beat the game. And my AC Vice Versa is victorious. I'm never fighting ALLMIND ever again
Omg I was sipping rubicon as you said that 😅
Rubicon sold at binley mega chippey with collectible morbius X fromsoft collab AC figure and downloadable Binley theme and Binley emblem and mega chippy garage theme for the low price of 69,420 pounds
13:37 nice...
That Rubicon can joke
Yup I'm invested in this video even more know lol
A controller with at least 2 rear buttons or paddles is essential imo. Need to be able to fly and quick boost without taking your thumb off the stick when fighting multiple enemies.
This game would be cool in vr
Died 6 times in the first mission ....
Bro game is hard
It still sounds weird to me when I hear "fires of rubicon". Like damn, that can of pop is delicious, but no need to start wars over it.
I am still waiting to get off work to play it. :)
Not sure yet if I should use the mouse and keyboard or my PS5 controller.. (playing on PC)
bruh my cousin and i are going to play after work i'm hyped oh yee
for some reason I can't reload the kenetic pistol using the keybind??
Thx ❤
I love games that give me a lot of hours, i'?m a Monster Hunter vet and i think AC can give me something similar, just adapt your build to te quest (monster) and spend time to make yourself better to beat stronger bosses and repeat again and again, i love that kind of cicle
Cant decide if buy in pc or ps5. What controller is best? K&M?
How do you effectively use the Assault Boost? I've clicked in L3 when moving towards an enemy but then I can't figure out how to turn it off and I just end up uncontrollably boosting in all directions. 😅😒
By pulling back on the directoonal thumbstick while assault boosting will turn it off, that's if you are using a controller.
@phantommeister7504 it's also recommended to tap the jump button to end your assault boost as it has less recovery time if you do it that way iirc
Dual Shotguns... with a fast dodgy chasis cleared all the fights for me
Those rubicon drinks are quite tasty
Should I be playing with a controller or mouse and keyboard? I always used controller in the past, but now I got a PC!
Ahh so that's why the name was familiar!!! 0:50
Nothing but this game till Starfield in a week for me.
same, my keep me busy till starfield game.
Bloody hell! You can reach the assembly from in mission?! That's definitely something I didn't know. Would of saved me so much fucking time.
Sure stay in the Air.......BUT FFS MANAGE YOUR ENERGY! NEVER RED LINE!
Depends on what kind of build youre using. A high regen EN generator enables you to regen in a second after touching the ground, should be timed well with the enemies attack patterns tho
Also when you have an enemy targeted it will show current distance away underneath them. This will help you be in your ideal weapon range.
Hey, that's my local chippy! 😂
Gotta shout out South Gosforth where I can.
I think the Uk specific joke was nice even tho I didn’t get it
Been plating since PS1. The issue is the cheese boss fights that ruin the experience.
I have a feeling so many souls kids are going to regret this purchase. Not because the game will be bad, but because AC and DS are radically different in every conceivable way aside from both being 3rd person and real time.
So far I have the same experience with this as with DS. Getting my a** clapped on the first boss xD love it.

@@deathnote939393 haha nice 👍🏻
Not sure why everyone refers to anything difficult as a Souls game haha, difficult games were around long before DS
Dark Souls vet here. Done DS3 on new game +8. I am also a critic when it comes to games. hard to impress.
I love armored core 6. That is all.
How do you drift with tank
Tomorrow at 5 baby 😁
Its only hard cause theres no colour blind settings i cant see the warning indicators
reverse joint gang
Named my character Shinji Ikari and my mech is Eva-01 lol
Was the 13:37 video duration intentional?
If it was 2013
Is this playable with mouse and keyboard ? Fully ?
Yes. I am playing MnK and did give the controller a try but was not thrilled about the controller… controls.
Stick with MnK if that’s what you normally use.
The default reload key on keyboard is R not F
Correction: before souls games, from software was best known for armored core... sprinkle some tenchu in the mix
I'm from the UK I liked that joke lol
8:41 how didn't you get hit?
Try finger, but hole.
Ollie Toms is the most british name I've ever heard in my life
Or using it to move in to rip mechs apart
Just one more day man 😭
0:03 from twice?
MnK on top
This video gets a like just for the rubicon dad joke😂
You can also custom map your controller for console players, personally I remapped the assault boost to B instead of L3 (xbox), and likewise switched L3 to dash
Just use rivers of blood
1 more day to release day...
1 day too long 😅
i wanna hibernate for one day lol
I suck at this game been playing for a hour now and can’t pass first boss
6+2+1=9Ball
There’s apparently a boss as hard as Malenia so he may be in it…
@@christopherlyndsay8611what the f**** qre u kidding me, iam amazed and terified at the same time
@@christopherlyndsay8611let's just hope it's more in line with Sekiro boss difficulty and not health regen on every hit hahaha
@@jeff3221 Some bosses will heal but those are the later game ones. And only the "humanoid" bosses. You get three heals and they do basically.
It makes the fights more engaging. You wear them down, they heal or pop a shield. You counter with your move. They close in and try to shotgun. etc. 1 on 1 fights like that are great.
@@Veldazandtea I wouldn't mind if it was just a 1v1 and we had our heals, but many of them are either 1v2s, 1v3s, 1v1s but they have several support snipers, back to back 1v1s, fought after tougher sections, etc. You start at a disadvantage and it would just be nice if they had an accurate health bar or at least told you how many heals they had left. I've beaten the game 3 times and my feelings on this never changed.
Learn to kick and melee combo might save you !
That is one flamming ass mech lol
Im so bad at this game. Balsac killed me like 100+ times
Weapons Bay OS as soon as possible is a bad recommendation. The OS is better for experimenting or for builds after you feel more comfortable with the game.
Buy FCS, boosters, and generators first
