Tamiya DT-01/02/03 Project #11: Finishing the Tamiya Sand Viper (DT-02) Body, Wheels, Tires!

- Welcome to another special episode of the Tamiya DT-01, DT-02 and DT-03 Project: Final steps and final result of the upgraded 8T Brushless Tamiya DT-02 Sand Viper
1/10 2WD Buggy 2006 (Tamiya 58374)!
In this series we will be building the Tamiya Mad Bull 58205 (DT-01 Chassis), the Tamiya Sand Viper 58374 (DT-02 Chassis) and the Tamiya Racing Fighter 58628 (DT-03 Chassis) and do comparisons and a number of upgrades along the way. We might even have a look at some of the Grasshoppers, Hornets and a few other DT Buggies along the way.
None of the buggies will be build stock and this video series is no intended for instructional purposes. Every detail of all three buggies have already been carefully planned and all optional parts and electronics have already been selected and purchased.
There will be none of the usual guiding and explanatory texts in the videos, no color optimization and no time lapse. Videos are only targeted at fellow Tamiya fans. Sometimes it's time to let the raw images speak for themselves and just enjoy the RC car. The world is hurting and spinning faster and faster. People are suffering. But a little hobby time can allow us a short welcomed break from it all. Some peace. Sit back and relax. Pure RC building ... with a little music added (feel free to turn down the volume of the video and put on your own favorite music while you are watching).

Note:
The car here still needs some final adjustments off camera, and the paint job didn't go as planned. Here in the winter I have to paint inside, and can't really hand hold the body while painting, which makes it a little difficult. On top of that I chose black just before painting (the original plan was the box art yellow) and used some leftover PS-5 I had. I thought there was plenty of paint left in a couple of used cans, but found out there really wasn't. More over I had expected the grey/blue'ish tones on the window decals to stand out a little more, but backed with black paint, they are really dark. So if anyone plans to make a black Sand Viper here is my advice: Do it in the summer outside, have plenty of new spray cans and mask the windows and leave them clear or smoked. Well, again, for me, it's okay for now, since I have other plans for this particular unit in the long run (next year), which includes some hop-up parts, other electronics and another body.

Back in black! Hello Mikael. This series has been wonderfully presented, and this episode is no exception. Even though the paint splattered (this has happened to me many times) the body still looks great. I liked the black wheels the best, a very mean stealth machine! It was very kind of you to put the links to my channel, thank you my friend. I love that you are going your own route with these buggies and look forward to the DT-01. :-)
Yeah, back in black. Changed the plans too late, but I thought there was enough black in the old cans. But they started being empty and splattering after the first couple of thin layers. Worst was the wing, which I didn’t really get to finish properly. Body is okay (from the outside). Surprisingly I liked the grey wheels the most, so those are for the shelf. The black for off road, the white with the Louise tires for on road. So I get to use all of them 🙂 DT-01 painted now. Turned out fine. Decals and driver awaits. Hope I make it in the holidays 🙂 Thanks a lot for watching, my mate.

@@NordicRC Just be careful with that WD-40 with rubber parts, too much will get rubber too soft and ruin it. I've seen some tires gone bad with WD-40. You need to wipe the excess WD or it'll eat the tire in long term. It sure looks good when it shines but the tire life will get shorter. WD-40 is good with some dried up car seals/boots.
I think it worked out good getting all the white stuff off. Worth it. And yeah, all the WD-40 together with the white stuff was washed off immediately with soap and water. Just needed the WD-40 to losen-de-grease it. Tires are good 🙂
@@NordicRC It's petroleum based so it eats the rubber in the long term so it's kinda good/bad. If you soak the tires in WD-40, they'll swell and that way it's not good. But a little spray, a very light coat, i think it's ok, just keep on eye on them.

Great job 👍 bro, Black looks amazing on the sleek Sand Viper body especially with the gray wheels. The other wheels looked good but the grey ones really pop. Loved the cameos of all the other DT's as well. So just the Mad Bull left of the trio looking forward to seeing how you did that one as well. And surprisingly I liked the stock grey wheels. I really dislike them together with the box art yellow, so didn’t expect it. But together with the black body and the bit of grey in the decals it seems to work. Looking forward finishing the DT-01 too. Body painted. Decals and driver next up. Hope I will find a little alone-hobby-time in the Holidays. Maybe, maybe not. If I find some time I definitely will do. Video with the Gator too.

Another great video production Mikael. Really like it in black with those stickers. Silver wheels look the best I'd say. Good to see those Louise Rocket tyres on it too. @@NordicRC no big plans for me either. My wife is working Xmas day and I'm visiting my family. I should get a bit of hobby time after that. We'll have a couple of days visiting her family in the south west of England and then back home to host a new years eve party with some friends at ours which involves much drinking and games and dancing 😁. Recovery on the 1st Jan then back to work ☹️

Does look sweet in black, but looked like your spray can was playing up near the end of spraying. With the wheels both the silver and white looked nice but the black ones nope. I can see you have saved the best to last the Madbull, looking forward to seeing what colour you use.
Yeah, totally messed up the paint job. Half way through I ran out of paint and the old cans started splattering. There was a couple of even coats already so luckily not visible from the outside. Worst was the wing though. Really ugly. But this time of year I can only paint inside, not hand holding them. And yes, the black was a no go. So it will sit on the shelf with the grey ones, and the white with the on road tires for the runs. Will change the motor (for something more conservative) and body again before the first off road runs. Yeah, looking forward sharing the Mad Bull. Some will like it, some will not ☺️

Thank you, Rich. On which one? Got a DT-02 with 3Racing carbon towers and a DT-03 with Tamiya carbon towers. I think the 3Racing ones are out of production though.
@@NordicRC The DT02. Hop ups are hard to find these days.
Yeah. It’s an old chassis. The suspension and gear box of the DT-02 and DT-03 are the same though, so one can use hop-ups from the DT-03 on the DT-02, but suspension and gear box only. If it is something with the chassis and towers they are very different.

Hi Calvin. I‘m not sure but if I remember correctly the Fighter Buggy SV is just a Sand Viper that comes with different wheels/tires and then some ‘down grades’ like 380 type motor and springs instead of shocks.
