- Finally got to start and finish the brush cutter modification. It started as a Kingcutter 48 inch bush hog. We cut some off the back to open it up to the blades and then added some steel for bracing that will help push the brush and small trees away from the cutter. This means we can now use that 15 horse power PTO output to cut 1 inch to 2 inch trees with ease. Very excited by how well this project turned out. She works great behind my John Deere 755 compact tractor.

I watched this video back when you built it. Now I believe I’m gonna built something similar for my bush hog. My biggest goal is to keep the little trees from falling over on me as I back through the thicket. Thanks for the idea.

“Little cutter that could!” Turned out awesome! As far as the limited horsepower, I can do “almost” all the work with my compact 770 (24hp/20hp pto) that I really need to. Only drawback to mine is 2WD and no bucket but I’ve got 2 bigger 4WD tractors with buckets if I need them. I use “Mighty Mouse” for everything around the house and on small jobs where it’s not feasible to carry one of the bigger tractors. Takes a little longer but it does the trick for sure.

How about adding a flywheel to the diskcutter, that should help a bit when cutting into the bigger trees?
You may be able to add a large 1" thick steel plate to the arbor and then attach the blades to that? Just watch out for the max rim-speed so you don't end up spinning the flywheel to quick.
Morten Mortensen that’s not a bad idea. A little extra weight could help carry the blades inertia through as well.

That looks alright, maybe name it the green cutter because it saves you time and time is money? or the wake maker, because you are clearing room for a boat.
One thing I did see and maybe you want to try. I have been running my dad's bush hog for 20 years now and I always couldn't figure out why the arms that go to the back kept bending, so I asked the Messicks channel and the overwhelming answer I got was the part that connects to the top link was put on backwards by the person who assembled it originally AND the part that pertains to you that you may want to try- I was told by a number of people to take the top link and where it attaches to the tractor there are 2-3 sets of holes, use the lowest hole for the brush hog- it keeps the deck more level.

I just cut about a foot off the back of my bush hog. The blades stick out 6 inchs. A gas ax fixes everthing...

Like the way you repurposed the fiber optic reel stock and created a truss type design. 5 stars on the fab work, construction, paint, video music choices, and of course your commentary. As I say, I'm a better grinder than a welder. When you get to welding that grader, it would be a good idea to bring the rust from both parts before welding.

I went threw 3years of welding classes in high school and I do have a cheap Lincoln welder. If I take my time I can make them “look good” but as I see it they are structurally fine for what I am doing and that’s all that matters to me.

Captain Kleeman the most recent thing I have made was a plow mounting plate for my atv but I made a front mount hitch for my truck, utility rack for my dirt bike and I use it for a lot of repairs.
