DIY Ground Driven Mower From JUNK!

  • I made this mechanical tow behind mower for my ATV basically from junk. Although I had to buy the rear axle, a few bearings and some V-belts, this project was made from scrap metal and other recycled materials. I hope you enjoy watching! #mowing #mower #ATV #grass #DonnDIY #eestiyoutuber
    I got the idea from a TH-cam user Roadracing Mustang. His video is located at • My Homemade Mower . Check it out! It's brilliant!

    Love how you made the blades to survive rocks and still keep cutting. Ingenious idea. No doubt your invention will outlast anything on the market today. Also like the fact that there is no engine to maintain. Thanks for posting.

    I had to watch this twice, it works so well! What an amazing machine. The drive gearing ratio is massive with the diff ratio + the chain drive ratio + belt pulley ratio. Great job, good fabrication, especially with scrap steel and components.

    Lot of comments about folks not having a lathe but the pulleys you made can be found at any automotive junkyard and for the blades a couple of old mower decks and a little ingenuity could of been used instead of the things you made. That being said, GREAT JOB, love it!

    • @Iexpedite1
      @Iexpedite1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speaking of dopes...Shovster wasn’t criticizing the builder. He was criticizing the people that claim he was only able to achieve it because he had specialty tools. His point is, even though the builder used a lathe, which not everyone has. The project is achievable with off the shelf parts.

    • @chucksherron
      @chucksherron 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mark Magoo he still wasn't being critical. You are defending someone who doesn't need to be defended.

    • @Iexpedite1
      @Iexpedite1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Magoo
      Again, he wasn’t being critical. You can find pulleys and mower decks and with a little ingenuity achieve the same outcome. That doesn’t mean a guy that knows how to use a lathe and built his own parts lacks ingenuity. Obviously it takes ingenuity to build your own parts. So, it must mean that there are multiple ways a person can achieve this outcome and not having access to a lathe is no excuse.

    • @Iexpedite1
      @Iexpedite1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Magoo it takes a big man to admit when he is wrong.

    Wow, that *really* does work! I was a little dubious at first, but once you added the swing away knives and the weight boxes, it started to look serious. Some shielding would be a really good idea, especially chain mail style so it follows contours and keeps any debris or a flung knife inside.
    That is one impressive machine!

Only thing I could think to recommend would be some small agricultural tires for better traction and some kind of deck lid to protect yourself from potential flying rocks/debris. I have to pay someone to mow my lawn as I'm always travelling, but could totally see myself using something like this when I retire.

    I see you changed to the front mount but I was wondering how the first one worked?
    I need something like this at a remote cabin for cutting the grass, simple and reliable.
    Why did you make the changes?

    Идея оригинальная! У нас ещё так никто не делал, чтобы привод брали от колёс. Либо от вала отбора мощности, либо устанавливают двигатель.

    Pretty nice. Might have some inspiration with the four junk push mowers laying around now.

    I like it. But instead of all that weight over the tires which is cutting groves into the ground perhaps put spikes on the tires? This not only will give you the traction you need with less than half the weight you have, but also aerate the lawn.

    Curious how the pinion bearing has held up over time being starved for oil...just curious as it may be ok....I want to make one...if I've gotta put bearings in every few years who cares...if it's every year may not do it for me

      just put some heavy grease in there. or some lucas oil thickner. thats what we did for our trailer that used a normal axle still.

      Could also drill and add a grease fitting if it ever becomes an issue.

    my great-great grandpa built these in the early 1900s for the farmers in my area I live in North Carolina. still have one that works but it's outdated I keep it as a relic and a memory of his creativity and hard work. 🤠

      после войны такие косилки у нас были на конной тяге и еденицы еще есть и сейчас имею в виду у руско язычных. лет 8 назад сам видел только принцип не от моста а проще. хотя может и не только у словян

      Awesome fabrication but with everything welded solid, how do you put a new belt on when it breaks?

    Excellent job! I have to wonder how you keep it from scalping on uneven terrain. Maybe some rollers on the front and a floating hitch.

      @@DonnDIY If you switched the pulleys and belt for gears and chains, I'm sure it would handle high grass just fine
