I think this is a good concept and wanted by many but it would only shine maybe with a pto driven pump plumbed all the way up to the front
Those PTO driven pumps are pricey...unless you get a made in china version.
We got one of the last second generation TrailBlazer front brush hogs and paid the extra for their PTO driven pump in the back. It is expensive, but you can keep the mower running while making the adjustments as you mow.
When we had our Kubota in for its 50-hour maintenance, I ha s the mechanics do an evaluation of the mower. They thought it was a superior design when compared to the Lane Shark. Plus, they also brought to my attention that there were plates on each side of the back of the mower to install guage wheels.
Unfortunately, TrailBlazer stopped making their mower because they could not overcome a patent infringement case brought about
by Lane Shark. Even with the design changes on their second generation, it still had problems, so the company decided to give up.
Too bad, because I really like the constant flow of just under 12 gpm from the power pack. It also gives you 400 pounds of ballast in the back with that power pack. I also had a neighbor weld together a weight rack that I put on there so I could put 550 pounds of GWT suitcase weights when we are moving around round hay bales.
The setup works well for our needs.
Maybe someday , we will figure out how to use the power pack in order to use a hydraulic auger.
@@GoodWorksTractorsbuilding your own 3point pump is fairly simple. I’m gathering up parts to build an engine driven pump that you carry on rear to handle high flow and also act as a ballast on the rear
Having a firsthand account of ‘a low flow version of this is still useful’ is honestly harder to come by and a lot more useful than 1000 reviews that amount to ‘spend more money/get bigger stuff’. Glad you tried this and shared the experience with us. 👍
I have one of these from from this company. The owner is great and will answer any questions. I talked to w l long who makes my third function and they recommended a by pass on the return to help on the heat and preventing the motor from stopping to quickly. It was a quick and easy mod, but I can easily cut 2 inch and love it for cutting in woods and trimming up trees and along ponds
Adding a pto driven hydraulic system would be a great option to alleviate the reduced flow when repositioning the loader.
It actually works very well. With over a year of use on mine, I am very impressed. Just wish the video would have gone more in depth with the hydraulic system needs. I have cut in many trails and cleared away a ton of invasive species throughout the property.
I am running the 4 ft unit from king manufacturing just like the video. My 30 hp diesel compact tractor supplies the hydraulic motor with enough fluid to operate pretty well. I also have mine running from the rear remotes going forward to the loader. The control valve can actuated on for full time fluid movement. As talked about in the video though, you will hear the difference when using other hydraulic systems at the same time. The biggest issue, hydraulic system related, is the return. This cannot be routed back through the normal system. It uses a sump return line that flows direct to the sump. Without this return line, most tractor valves block fluid movement on both pressure and return, the mower would instantly lock up instead of spooling down when turned off. Imagine the damage that could be done. My bobcat brand tractor did not have an option for that sump return and i had to develop my own fittings and lines.
There was also mention if the hydraulic fluid temps... yes you will see an increase of those temps but it was not enough to concern me in the bigger picture.
Great info.
For curiosity sake how flat is the area you are mowing with the machine? Would assume that even running over a mole hill with the wheels would result in the mower bouncing up and leaving a high spot.
@@foonus406 and it does. There is no float position like a 3 point cutter. But overall that is not what this cutter is for.
it won't lock up. That bypass fitting by the motor is a check valve to let the motor spin down when flow is shut off.
I run a 5' version on a 100hp Kubota. It gets HOT very quickly. I try to keep my usage in short bursts of less than a minute. I would not consider it as a main mower. It works for my needs because I'm just using it to get into the tight spots I can't hit with my 15' flex wing pto cutter.
There may be a market for a 3 foot front mount brush hog for getting in the tight spots and overhangs. It could even be gas driven for ease of hook up and use. I saw a guy who mounted a regular mower on to his forklift forks. Worked great. Brush hogging and then manual mowing or weed eating the tight spots and overhangs can be a big time killer on larger wooded properties. Would love a front end mowing solution while brush hogging. Gas engine powered would be way easier to connect and use. I think it makes more sense as a hard to cut solution and not a true brush hog replacement. The two together would be a good combo.
Hi my name is Dan. I like the new tool. At least it will be easier to get unstuck. Keep up the great work God bless.
Haha, maybe so!
@GoodWorksTractors all in fun. Have a great day. And thanks.
@GoodWorksTractors all in fun. Have a great day. And thanks.
This is why i like ventrac , forward mounted mower , no hurting neck at the end of the day , mow into tight spots without having to back in looking backwards , not cheap but worth it if you do alot of mowing
It’s a pretty decent option. As long as people understand it’s not a mower and really just a brush hog. If you have trails like you have here or blazed here, this thing works. If you are going to keep those trails clear, this will be nice for operator comfort and flexibility. You can cut branches and create a tunnel even if the growth is dense & tall enough. It may take some patience, but it will do it.
I agree a 3 series is much more likely to run this 4 ft model better, but unfortunately, due to the increase in size, you may want a 5 ft model if you have the 3 series!! 😂😂. There’s always a give & take,,,,, haha. Running the 5 ft model may be an issue with the 3 series. I kinda doubt it, but who knows until they compare them somewhere.
Thanks for showing this option to us!
You need to design a pto power pack for sub and compact tractors. Get the GPM to 15+ in front attach equipment. It’s a great idea 💡
Hey buddy,
I enjoy your videos and I have learned a lot! I have spoken with my dealership about front end loader attachments that require constant flow, like mowers and augers. I have been told that it is not recommended. They say it will heat up your fluid and cook your seals. They are skid steer tools. Thanks for sharing.🚜🇺🇸🍺
Great concept. Long awaited.
Agreed. I've seen smaller mowers, but nothing of this size. It is an extreme situation here with very low flow GPM. Higher flow machines will perform even better.
I think gauge wheels would be a good thing to add. Put your loader in float and create a consistent mow height
💯
Mount a heavy tailwheel on the front, drop the mower, and float the loader.
I have had mine for over year, works great. I used mine on my 2025R, 3046R, and 4066R.
Very handy, super easy to put on and take off. Excellent for those small quick little task.
Mine also a king welding. Love it!
how do you think it would work on a 1025r compared to the 2025r?
@@anthonymorrison2167 They build one for a 1025R. There are pics of it on their website. Should do pretty similar to the summit in this video.
thanks alot@@jdfleetguy28
The Hardee Brush Tiger is an option that runs off the rear pto. It's great for side cutting banks low and high. I run mine on a Mahindra 1538 and am very satisfied. Each attachment has its place.
Great video and commentary as usual thanks Courtney
Appreciate it man, have a great weekend!
thanks for sharing the video. one thing that would help this cutter if you could have oil return straight to the holding tank and not go through the diverter valve. the oil would run cooler and it would definitely have more power
I knew a guy who slapped a PTO hydraulic pump on his Kubota B2920 and ran hoses up to a low flow skid steer brush hog. Worked for the most part. Got the brush hog real cheap, so I guess thats why he did it?
The front mount models seem to be a lot better thought out than the 3 point for thorns and brush, not a fan of driving through the brush before you cut it especially with turf tires. Asked this about the Rimguard ballast before but never did get a reply.. would it be worth putting rimguard in the small 10 inch skid steer tires or are they just too small for it to have any noticeable effect? I've already got wheel spacers on it with grousers and a full weight kit.
Good review!
I think I like the 3 point brush hog much better. Man, I sure have learned a lot from you sharing here online for us.
I definitely see how this could be very useful in many situations
Safety is a very good point about these cutters. My bobcat has a special door on the front that's half an inch thick, made for use with forestry cutters. I've had chunks of wood the size of bricks slam into that door like a hammer. The cutter also throws pieces for hundreds of feet in front of it.
I've been looking at a offset flail mower to do a 800ft bank in the front of the property. They're mad expensive where i'm at, plus shipping.. this would be a decent way to do it, albeit way slower. Would be great for cleaning out the walking trails like you're doing though..
We have a LaneShark we use on the hunting property, which is similar in operation but with other articulation. If I use the counterweight on the rear, no hydraulic overheating issues. If we also have the rear rotary cutter on and running, we have experienced elevated temperatures. Also, hydraulic flow issues start to creep into the picture.
How does it do for you on cutting trees on edges of trails? Plus, I would like it mostly to cut tree limbs back off of corn field. Hasn’t been done on family farm in about 10 or 12 years and I would rather do it than pay someone.
@@kennethdurichek4945 Every spring we do a road and trail cut back. The roads are usually done wit the Lane Shark and trails by hand. We have gone into the food plots and cut the pine branches back also. Good to about 2” then we use a pole saw.
Thank you for the information. That will help a lot.
Cool attachment! Could be a really good fit for the right application.
Deere sells a front mounted quick hitch for the smaller tractors (attaches to frame not loader) to run a snow blower and broom powered by the mid-PTO. Why doesn't someone make a mower that attaches to this? The mid-PTO already used to power the belly mower. Couldn't they design it so the mower cannot be raised to the point it would interfer with the PTO connection?
How hot did your hydro fluid get while using this? Does it have a dump valve in case it binds up or hits something it can’t get through? I just think without a high flow converter, you’ll end up frying all the o rings on your fittings and create havoc on the hydro system.
How is the hydraulic flow out of the 3rd function vs the rear remote?
I realize the front mounted hydraulic operated mower may not be the most efficient when compared to a PTO driven pull behind. However, in the situation like mine, this would be awesome. I have an old Ford 4500 industrial tractor and it is designed with a front loader, and to have a rear backhoe however, I do not have the back of attachment.my hydraulic pump would be more than sufficient, and I could use those auxiliary ports that ran the backhoe to run a front mounted hydraulic. My tractor does not have a PTO so a three-point mounted PTO driven implement isn’t even an option for me.
It'd be great to see this again on a 1025r with a HydrosPlus Stage 3 Hydraulic Pump upgrade.
Same!
Paging Tractor Time With Tim.......
I like this concept- at my "youthful" age, my back really doesn't like to swivel.....
I definitely admire concept of front mounted brush cutter for tractor. But many who use a brush cutter are land clearing or property upkeep. Id love front mount one but PTO leads way still unless you have mega tractor that pumps fluid. Great video regardless
Nice video. One thing I wish these manufacturers would do is offer a Hi-flow hydraulic system as an option when purchasing a new unit. There are a lot of attachments that require a higher flow to get a good working attachment. I know these attachment manufacturers offer low-flow versions of some of their attachments, but compared to a high-flow attachment, no comparison. JMO...
I have a L4060 with third function front but is an issue that the third function is just a button? Like for opening and closing of a grapple ?
Thanks
Wonder how it will do with the HydrosPlus upgrade for the JDs
This attachment with wheels like a finish mower would work great with tractors that have a float function for the front like my mahindra 1635.
Didn't Hamiltonville Farms run one of these a year or two ago? I think he had it plumbed into the diverter valve, so it had to be powered down each time some adjustment is made to the loader arms.
I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts/ seeing you try out a front mount mulcher head. I understand it wouldn't be running at the same kind of poweras on a skid steer. I just wonder if it could be functional like this. TIA
Can't run them on tractors, no where near enough flow. I've ran them on skid steers and made quite a few videos though.
Made in Minnesota! Up on the Iron Range in MN
I like the concept but what you're cutting with the loader mounted cutter look like you could run out down with good mower.
Still haven't found me a rock mower, eh, Courtney? Cool tool all the same.
Having used a front mounted brush hog on a skid steer, my biggest concern would be not having a windshield. I've had objects, some large, fly out of the brush cutter and hit the front window of the skid steer.
Aren’t the skid steer cutters intended for much larger material? Like mulching trees?
@@wisdomspitter7688 some are. Regardless, they still have the potential to spit stuff back at you at Mach 3. 🤣
In watching the video I notice that you had to cover over the tall grass twice to cut it. The first time over it pushed the grass down, the second time over it cut it. It would take a long time to cut a large field. The suggestion to have some type of pro hookup to an auxiliary hydraulic pump would be the ticket and then you could run any number of front mounted units for different jobs just like a skid steer. But then comes along the expense and auxiliary pumps are not cheap. My tractor gives you 8.5 gpm and as such I couldn't put a wider unit on than that 4 footer.
My Kioti has a float function on the front that would work, I've seen what my slasher throws out the back and not so sure i want to be sitting behind it
Would it be better to power the mower from rear hydraulics?
Perhaps a front mounted hydraulically powered finish mower would be better for tractors? The blades will not need as much power to get and keep cutting.
You need a stump jumper on that mower to be safe and protect the mower.
Kool.
I would like to see a loader mounted brush mower with a self-contained hydraulic unit powered by the front PTO (1,000 RPM). This would allow full control of the loader lift & tilt independent of the PTO/mower drive.
Dude, I agree 💯.
I think the mid mount pto is very under used. I saw a dude use it to power a pressure washer pump. I think building a generator for the mid pto would be super awesome too.
I have a brush hog on my skid steer. It is a challenge to get an even cut. It excels at jobs where the weeds or brush are very tall and a frontal attack beats a pull behind approach. Pull behind mowers have the disadvantage of trying to cut stuff the tires have driven over and laid down. This mower on a tractor should be less tippy than the skid steer but I would not want to do open field mowing with it. Oh yeah... and the operator eats all the dust, dirt, and pollen kicked up in front you. A good mower but it should not be your only mower if you have acreage to cut.
On the question of gauge wheels. Front wheels would only work if the loader was in float mode... but I think that would produce enough weight to force the wheels into the dirt. Ideally it would need a hinge at the mount to utilize gauge wheels like some machines that are out there.
If you still have the JD 4 series try it on there.
4 caster wheels would improve usability. With a slip top link to allow for ground contour and loader in float.
Great Bible verse. What is gpm flow for your tractor? I have 3033R, it is 13.
I have often wondered why a traditional brush cutter come with 2 blade instead of 4 like a skid steer brush cutter .?
Id have way too much fun with that
I've been wondering?.... does good works tractors have something against Yanmar tractors? Sa325/425 are great little tractors. More lifting capability and better warranty than the tractors in the videos. Serious inquiry here. Love the content of these videos.
Yanmar quick attach is really stupid. That’s the only thing. Good tractors besides that though!
Can I run one of these on a 2025R?
I was thinking along these lines as well. I think it would be simpler for me if someone offered a bush hog with a gas motor on it. That hooks to your loader like this one. Just run a throttle cable to my seat.
Maybe they could make some sort of heat sink.
Where you take the video? I see a lot of golden rod there. I like the tractor and the vegetation there. I’m a beekeeper and I like vegetation like that.
it’s in mattawan, michigan.
What brand is that
I wish hydraulic flow meters were less expensive. Pressure is easy, but the flow meters that handle the pressures involved start around $500. And I have absolutely no idea what the flow rate is on my Summit Hydraulics 3rd function kit.
I kinda thought Summit might have one of those, but didn't see it on their site. Seems like it would be in their wheelhouse.
This thing is begging for a 3pt hydraulic power pack if one could be had a reasonable price. I'd say a gasoline engine powered unit would be less expensive than the PTO power version as that's usually the case. I don't understand it but it is what it is.
Why not run it in float with gage wheels?
Might work? Not sure
Auto leveling, float mode and away you go keeping in mind the limitations of the system.
It would be nice to be able to boost hydraulic pressure.
keep in mind most of the tractors will spec out the total hydraulic flow. Example Kubota L2501 5.15 gpm hydraulic 3.11 gpm steering total. 8.26 gpm Most places will just list the 8.26 giving you the wrong motor size.
Great concept but I would be concerned that hydraulics are being overworked and heat up on a tractor.
If you have a cab it might work
I tnink it will get a lot of people hurt especially when used lifted on an open station tractor or a cab without ballistic glass. Then there is the turn aspect with people not weighting the tractor properly. Everybody thinks that they can get away with using just one time without weighting properly.
I would think that your front screen on the tractor would be plugged up in a few minutes
I think for a small tractor, a gasoline engine powering the mower deck would be a better idea.
Nice ty 🏆 👴 🐕 🚜 🤠 🕺 🏆
Have a good one!
I would like to see something like that in a flail mower on the front of the tractor would be nice
I think if you're in the market for this, just get a zero turn. It seemed slow, cumbersome with an uneven cut.
I can think of alternatives, but a zero turn would not make that list.
Not being a safety Sally, but you showed 2 quick positions which really put you as the operator at risk. When you angled the front of that down, it could have EASILY thrown something back at you. Some people really don’t take advantage of PPE before using power equipment and that is where accidents happen. I just saw one yesterday a lady was weed whacking in shorts with no eye or ear protection on and squinting, turning her head sideways to avoid getting debris.
This machine has potential, but just as the right tool for the right job. Appreciate how you give pros/cons
What timestamp? I don't recall doing that at all as that would be asking to get whacked in the face. I may look like an idiot, but I promise you I value my life :) I'm guessing it was merely the angle in the video that wasn't the same as the operator view. Also, my glasses are safety glasses and I was wearing hearing protection.
Didn’t mean to imply YOU were unsafe! But 2 spots to look at from my viewing angle could be seen as “potentially” dangerous.
8:22 and 11:35 - the first threw some stuff behind the mower (probably low potential) and the second when you had the mower high it was sort of angled forwards…this was the greater hazard (unless blade wasn’t moving). I’m not a critic, but as someone who has had a few injuries when things “look” safe just pointing out a cautionary POV.
🙄
Someone else is recording those close-up shots with a drone from afar. If that's what you're wondering. I don't believe he's that stupid.
I would like to find a hydraulic sicker bar that can be mounted off from the loader so to be able to keep hedges and stuff trimmed along driveway trails and fence lines. But it got to be able to be run off from a compact tractor like 20 - 25 hp
Haven’t seen that yet
@@GoodWorksTractors There is one out there its 38- in cutter that only requires 3 to 4.5 gal/min. hydraulic flow and can be adjusted to cut vertically, horizontally, or at any angle in between A hydraulic motor powers an oscillating cam connecting two cutting blades. Varying the hydraulic flow using the engine throttle changes the speed of the blades. 2 inch opposing sickle sections allow the cutter to cut material up to 1 1/2″ inches in diameter. I just doing some research on it now.
@@NYTROeast Interesting! Thank you for sharing. What is the name of this cutting attachment and /or link? TIA
@@triangels I will not share that info here on Courtney's page/channel. I don't believe in advertising pages, or channels on someone else without their permission Sorry.
I"ve got one samauri sabre use it on my 1025 it works ok but you have to learn to get the feel of it I"ve used it quite a bit.
Ventrac's whole business model is putting the implement in front so you're not continually looking over your shoulder,
which is ridiculous. The frontmount should float as well or just buy a Ventrac to begin with.
No way I’m paying 21 k for that tractor
What tractor would you buy for 21K?
It's not worth the extra money and maintenance at all, in my opinion.
Definitely more expensive for sure! Thanks for watching
@GoodWorksTractors love what you do. Guess I would rather go with one of your Delmarino or pto bush hogs with less hassle.
It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I absolutely love my 6 foot brush cutter when I am maintaining our atv trails. But it can be painful trying to cut in new trails through a ton of sticker bushes. This has allowed me to do so much easier and safer. But I will also agree that it has a rather niche market.
Thank you the good video and please keep putting up BIBLE verses.
No thanks.
I'd put 4 casters on it,a pto pump and put my loader in float mode and just have a ball
