Honestly I would rather have them all animated, either in 2d or 3d. Shows like TLoVM and Arcane prove that you can have adult themed and story driven animation be extraordinary. Also I think having voice actors instead of live action actors would be way more efficient: if they had to be recast for some reason, the transition would be smoother.
@@Girentina242depending on how well Arcane does, this could be a possibility. The issue is animation doesn’t being as big of a crowd but I fully agree with you on quality control via animation
I love the idea of Hoid *occasionally* and *subtly* breaking the 4th wall. It perfectly fits his character! As many others have also thought, Mistborn would make an incredible video game!
I was bout to grab my pitchfork after you said to reveal kelsier is still alive but after your explanation I’m 100% onboard. As someone who got that spoiled before I got to it I think this is a great change
😅 it’s on the list! I’ve got a few Cosmere vids in the pipeline (mainly theory and ranking vids), but I definitely plan on making an Era 2 video of sorts soon. It’s just tough cuz the only things we have in the era really are Mistborn Wax & Wayne and then Stormlight (and we’ll only have half of it after Wind & Truth comes out). So at that point, I’d rather just do a video on each. That said, my next planned video for this series was how to “properly” adapt the Stormlight in live-action (cuz fans seemingly prefer animation but that isn’t Sanderson’s first choice). I’ve got some ideas and theories…as always. 😉
I would LOVE Glen Powell as Kelsier! Also getting Emperor’s Soul earlier than later would be a great introduction to Realmatic Theory for most casual viewers.
That’s a great idea! Apparently, Emperor’s Soul almost got adapted…until Sanderson read the script and learned they changed everything but a few names 😬
If you’re going to Nexus this year and find me in the wild, make sure to say hello. I’ve got bookmarks for all! 😊 And if you’re hungry for discussions on the Wind & Truth preview chapters, check out the Silverlight Guide to the Cosmere. We’ve been doing weekly readings & discussions over on their channel (with the occasional appearance by CJ from Cosmere Quandaries)!
Love the video! Agree on a lot of it and love to see Arcanum as an anthology series. I like your more conservative approach but think that if Mistborn 1 does well they should already start Elantris into production and start Warbreaker into pre production. I know the tough part would be selling it as the same universe but sometimes the post credit trailer can do wonders to make people realize that it’s all building to something greater
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! And yeah tried to be as conservative as I could but you could most certainly have Elantris come out before Hero of Ages. Post-credits would be essential to tying it together like you said (plus all the online critics and reporters would help in that case as well).
I think it will be very hard to ballance the shorter stories with people currently tired of interconnecting tv and movies. I think one anthology tv show is a good way of doing it as long as there isn’t much and that’s it
Yeah I think limiting it to the more important stories is smart because, as you’ve said, consumers are starting to get tired of the whole universe concept. But imo it’s because it’s been done poorly recently. When the MCU was firing on all cylinders, they were the most successful studio in the world. All it takes is for good stories to captivate audiences. The “universe” can come later.
@@TheSandbox_Official yep I agree! Though still need a balance to make sure it isn’t too much! Also while I agree with your statement the CCU shouldn’t be rushed at the beginning I think the time line you later put is too long simply because of stormlight. If it’s 10 seasons one for each book with a year in between (minimum probably as seen with rings of power etc) then even if they started with it in era 2 on your time line (2039) then season 10 comes out in 2057 when Brandon is 80 with Dragonsteel and mistborn space age still to go. However if you do a one year gap rather than 2 between final empire and well of ascension and have hero of ages the year after and merge the two sets of years with one show together then stormlight could start in 2033 and thus the Stormlight archive could finish in 2051 when Brandon is 74/75 so has time to lead the end of the cosmere
As much as I like Keanu Reeves, I'm not sure if I'd agree with Brandon that he'd be the best choice for the Lord Ruler. I think the Lord Ruler needs to look younger, more intimidating, and more physically fit. He's supposed to look like an immortal perpetually in his prime, and Keanu is just kind of too old in my eyes and not intimidating in that cold ruthless villain sort of way. The Lord Ruler needs that presence, that gravitase, and I just don't think Keanu is right for that. Personally, I think Michael Fassbender would be a much better choice for the Lord Ruler. As for what character I think Henry Cavill could play, I think he'd actually be a great choice for Vasher/Zahel. I'm ceratin a Stormlight adaptation would come well before a Warbreaker one, so we could definitely see Henry "cameo-ing" in Stormlight as Zahel before getting him as a main character in a Warbreaker adaptation.
Yeah I 100% agree that Keanu has aged out of the role (despite my immense love for him). Fassbender would be great as well. Though I’ve always pictured him as a potential Kelsier as well. Glad we agree on Cavill as Vasher! ☺️
@@TheSandbox_Official I think that Fassbender COULD play Kelsier, but I think there are potentially better actors for that role, so I think Fassbender would be better off playing the Lord Ruler. Honestly, and I'm not sure entirely how this would work since he doesn't do as many live-action roles as VA ones, I actually think that Troy Baker could play a great Kelsier. That optimism and hopefulness, the smiling and levity, masking a great deal of pain from both his past and what he knows he'll have to do in the near future.
@ fair points. Something tells me Fassbender would make a great metal-based villain 😅 Had to look up Troy Baker before I recognized him. He could be great as well. Though I worry he might be too old for Kelsier now. Ideally we’d want someone in their mid-thirties to low-forties, so they’re in it for the long haul.
Condensing would be a must for sure. But it can be done. It's been done many times before. Sanderson just needs to find the write pair of visionaries for the medium and assist them with the story, imo.
My brother in christ, the stormlight books make mistborn look like short stories, they can for sure do Mistborn movies, but if they attempted that with Stormlight, it would be an unmitigated disaster.
Eh, I think you can do mistborn a lot easier than you think. A lot of those pages are taken up by things that can more easily be displayed visually, and of course you have a pruning of some of it to fit a movie length. All fans need to temper expectations here - we will never get a scene for scene recreation of the books. What movie ever gives us that? I think we just need to be grateful if and when we get some of these adaptations, and pray that they are as faithful as they can be.
Disagree with Hoid breaking the fourth wall. Marvel is great but it’s caused too many moves to not take themselves seriously scattering in silly jokes. However! Hoid should be allowed to break the fourth-ish wall when telling the stories of tress and yumi. (As in, he should still talk to us like we’re from the cosmere)
Yeah, I feel like those Special Projects are a great example of Hoid's 4th-wall-breakingness. Also the fact that the Stormlight books' epilogues all feature Hoid waiting for someone to speak with is another example. His Fortune could be tweaked a bit for the CCU to encompass this quirk. But I completely understand the hesitancy! MCU has dropped the ball post Infinity Saga and lost their way. But that shouldn't exclude from others finding it and doing it right.
The secret history issue is more about Rashek showing to have fully died before Bands of Mourning. The idea that TLR may still be alive is central to that novel, and Secret History spoils that, though a lot of people miss that
@@jaysemitchells497 hm yeah fair point, I had forgotten that myself. But I still think that goes in line with the overall narrative I’ve laid out here. You could still keep that mystery alive with a SH adaptation, or pivot more towards a focus on Kelsier.
The Kelsier reveal should not come in the first movie for sure. Maybe at the end of Era 1. If the character is done right, then he will loom too large over the rest of era 1, if you imply he's not dead.
I see where you’re coming from and have similar concerns which is why I think it’s wise to only tease his background journey. Nothing within the post-credits I offered would suggest his vital role in taking down Ruin (that would all be saved for Secret History adaptation). My main worry is for the fans. Without it being in Mistborn 1, it will be spoiled for many new fans. And feel cheaper if it comes 2 movies down the line. Films and books work much differently in what they can get away with, imo.
