It's so fascinating to see Joy Division's songs through the lens of New Order, precisely because they're (mostly) the same people, but a completely different band.
Actually nobody know better this song than New Order!! Also the vocalist have an impressive transformation on the voice near the end of the music . Legends !
It's okay that New order plays Joy Division songs, technically it's THEIR songs. Way I see it, when they play JD songs it's a tribute and keeping Ian's memory going. It's like when Weird Al plays Smells like Nirvana live he channels Kurt Kobain with his energy and it's like a tribute.
In the end they know they wouldn't be there if it hadn't been for Ian. But I think in the end they know its a tribute. You can see the emotion on their faces. Thankfully the group vocals tie it in pretty nicely in my opinon.
Love this song- Ian's voice had such a deeply haunting quality, this is great though. Their music still has the raw quality which I have always loved. Dance dance dance dance to the radio! :)
Not quite! He may have wrote the lyrics but I guarantee he didn't write all the music, when the people that wrote the music are the ones playing it, it's not a cover. That's like saying Pink Floyd are doing cover songs because Roger Waters left, or the multitude of other bands that have continued after band members leaving. Hell, Axle Rose even toured as Guns & Roses when he was the only member from the band left, and he wasn't even the main writer, are you going to say that he was doing covers as well? I think not!
Rogue Trooper Rogue Trooper New order is a Complete different band and it might be the original members of the band "Joy Division" but technically since they are doing the song as another band and not original Joy division it's a cover sure they wrote riffs and the melodies but it won't be complete without Ian it will forever be a cover the things in common with the support you gave was that the bands didn't split up members only left but Joy Division is gone the other bands found new members unlike joy division
"we would go on as if nothing were wrong...." Great lyric from this great song that summarizes the performance. Not the same without Ian. They should've had Hooky sing
Guitar, check, drums, check, bass, check .... guy who can actually play guitar quite well, check...and yet its still...its like watching Paul McCartney doing Beatles covers..
John frusciante sent me here with the statement that Bernard’s guitar playing was his influence on californication recording. I can definitely hear it!
That was amazing! And heavy! To the people complaining that it didn't feature Ian Curtis on vocals..... DUH! What did you expect? haha. It was still great. Also, why the f**k does Bernard have a Confederate flag sticker on his guitar? LOL
I think it is for the same reason that there is a boy from the Hitler youth and a concentration camp on the cover and the insert for the first Joy Division release.
I have no clue, but maybe some punk thing? Or it’s just fits the guitar? But he’s not racist that’s for sure. He criticised Morrissey being racist in the interview. Also he hates Trump, meaning he’s not even supporting Republicans, why would he support Confederation.
I've often been frustrated by Morris' fills. It's obviously not a problem for him to keep time but he always does the fills in this song like he's driving over washboard roads. It's still great to see them perform it... but I can't be the only one who notices this, right??
I think they are in mood with Ian, and this is very sad and I think they play it a little aggressiv and emotional, but I understand that. My eyes are very wet, the water is not only in the clouds on this day. RIP Ian and Dance Dance Dance Dance Dance to the radio....
Es cover porque el tema está registrado a nombre de otra banda, técnicamente si es cover, realmente no lo es, porque son sus propios temas bajo otro nombre.
"nEW oRDER is Joy Division", but with "One" major difference. IC! Furthermore, the music played by the two bands was totally different. Joy Division was not an electronic dance band.
People literally just put Ian Curtis comments on here for likes. That's really dumb because these are the people that wrote the music and Ian Curtis took himself out of the equation.
Jizaz...amazing watching this. But Ian is Ian, can't touch that. Nice tribute anyway! Amazing. And for all that don't know, those guys were joy division members. After Ian died, they form this group called new order. F++++ M****** jizaz
It's so fascinating to see Joy Division's songs through the lens of New Order, precisely because they're (mostly) the same people, but a completely different band.
Morris is a machine !
A human drum machine!
He plays like a machine in Blue Monday! lol
I have the vinyl of Closer signed by Peter Hook 🪝 of Joy Division/New Order. A true gentleman. He also sent me a New Order shirt 👕!
C. 18 - 10 - 23
I have the vinyl of Unknown Pleasures signed by Ian Curis, Stephen Morris, and Peter Hook. Of course, they signed the cover and not the vinyl!
@edcollins9377 🤣
I was there in that raining evening with my mates from the German Order. What a great show!
@jumofi the German Order???? I've got a copy of The German Order 1st class! The real ones are worth a fortune since only 11 were awarded by Hitler!
It gave me goosebumps when Sumner and Hook started singing "dance dance dance dance to the radio" it's like if I saw Ian singing with them 😳😳
same thing lmao
You DID see Ian singing with them, his spirit was there
I'm surprised they didn't break out into Ian's epileptic dance .... I bet half of the crowd would have went wild if they did!
3 years later I replied lmao 😂
But yeah it's a great performance
Peter Hook is one of the most underrated bass players of all time IMO
he's kinda like velvet underground for its time - not in the most known players, but an inspiration for so many newer players, sounds and bands
He isnt underrated
@@johnandpaul4657 he is extremely underated
i think Hooky is sufficiently rated
@@TheIkaraCult that's cap
The pure energy in this performance is fcking brilliant!!
For some reason Bernard Sumner reminds me Marty Mcfly.
hahah really
he looks really similar to michael j fox in this
You are absolutely right!
"I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it."
@@AndyWilliams8 Andy, I came here to say exactly that. LOL
If only Ian Curtis was still here he would have blown the place apart. Awesome effort though, just needed Ian's moves and vibe.
Thumbs up
damn right he would have!
Peter Hook plays the bass so beautifully.
Wow, twenty-some odd years later and Morris is still tearing it up...!
Actually nobody know better this song than New Order!!
Also the vocalist have an impressive transformation on the voice near the end of the music . Legends !
That scream at 3:10 is awesome, reminds me of Curtis somewhat

Wouldnt call those two tributes the same thing but yeah..
Fck weird al
It would be ok if Bernie didn't Butcher them.
I often wonder what they think when they play Joy Division songs without Ian Curtis. It must bring up mixed memories.
In the end they know they wouldn't be there if it hadn't been for Ian. But I think in the end they know its a tribute. You can see the emotion on their faces. Thankfully the group vocals tie it in pretty nicely in my opinon.
Probably at first, but I doubt they care anymore. It's now about keeping the cash rolling in
How Steve Morris never get tired of that 16th hi-hat, i will never know 😎
We miss you, Ian... god bless JD fans and New Order
Yes! We do miss Ian. RIP, my friend!
What a song boys, so sad you guys don't speak anymore 😢.. seen you all individually and ur gr8.. Thanx for all the tunes and memories.. love ya 👏👏
Love this song- Ian's voice had such a deeply haunting quality, this is great though. Their music still has the raw quality which I have always loved. Dance dance dance dance to the radio! :)
interesting choice of words "haunting quality"
I've long thought that Bernard Sumner is a totally underrated guitarist.
roflmao!
Wow, they sound amazing!
Later till this day Stephen is still the fastest drummer.
Faster than Stewart Copeland?
@ Probably not
0:01 How is this a "cover"? These guys wrote the song...
yeah haha they were in joy division...
rhjlopez because The original Writer is dead.
BlackBeauty exactly, Ian Curtis wrote all the joy division songs
Not quite! He may have wrote the lyrics but I guarantee he didn't write all the music, when the people that wrote the music are the ones playing it, it's not a cover.

This sounds superb, because its the original lads doing it
Finally someone gets it. It’s their song as much as Ian’s. Joy Division “fans” are too precious.
His voice is too high for this song, but this is very good anyways.
"we would go on as if nothing were wrong...." Great lyric from this great song that summarizes the performance. Not the same without Ian. They should've had Hooky sing
In November we're going to see Peter Hook. You can't get any closer to 'Joy Division'.
I love the energy of the band ... rip ian
just becoz ian curtis created these songs doesnt take away the awesomeness of this performance
Sthat a bad thing
The four of them created the songs.....
This just reminds me that Ian's not there to sing it and almost make me want to cry.
I only watch this once every year as a treat.
"Except for Ian Curtis who committed suicide." GREAT lol
Douglas Vieira wha?
@@seanwilliams5848 he's talking about the video's description
yeah i thought that was a bit harsh
Most unnecessary comment of all time
Ian hater! Troll somewhere else!
Wish peter did vocals for this, he sounded exactly like ian in the chorus
He does now x
anybody is better than Barney!
Best Cover of some Originals ❤
63 people just can't appreciate a great band
Peter Hook really has got that bass slinging thing down!!
Guitar, check, drums, check, bass, check .... guy who can actually play guitar quite well, check...and yet its still...its like watching Paul McCartney doing Beatles covers..
I have a feeling this is how Ian would have liked it played :-)
@@patthewoodboy yeah, this guy's just being a prick
sunsetman22 you offensive twat.
John frusciante sent me here with the statement that Bernard’s guitar playing was his influence on californication recording. I can definitely hear it!
the guitars were so good! Totally in the spirit
Ian would have been proud. Thank you!!!!!!!!!
A great version of an awesome song.
Ian Curtis would’ve evolved so much if he would have hung on. Peter Hook kinda sounds like Ian at times. So much energy here. Cheers New Order!
The timing is all over the place. Bassist just wants to go for it but the drummer is holding them back.
Well they weren't in their early 20s playing this song like they did back in 78-80
Hookys free not to be held back these days thankfully x
What an absolute legends..!!!
Master performance!
I like although Hookie's bassline is really simple he still steals the show completetly
It's sad to see this in a way But great in another. Ian should be there.
That was amazing! And heavy! To the people complaining that it didn't feature Ian Curtis on vocals..... DUH! What did you expect? haha. It was still great. Also, why the f**k does Bernard have a Confederate flag sticker on his guitar? LOL
+danielscissorhands Me pregunté lo mismo sobre la bandera confederada.
+danielscissorhands because Hook and Sumner are white supremacists, didnt you know ? their backup singer is their slave
I think it is for the same reason that there is a boy from the Hitler youth and a concentration camp on the cover and the insert for the first Joy Division release.
Well the world wasnt on this big PC kick in 2002 plus theyre British so why would they care anyways. Im happy to see the flag anywhere! So blah.
I have no clue, but maybe some punk thing? Or it’s just fits the guitar? But he’s not racist that’s for sure. He criticised Morrissey being racist in the interview. Also he hates Trump, meaning he’s not even supporting Republicans, why would he support Confederation.
I've always LOVED this version
Top scream from Barney at 3:11
Took them just under 4 minutes to make coming out in the rain worthwhile.
mammasantissima che spettacolo !!!!
Brought a tear to my eye. RIP Ian.
the guitar solo is so coooool
3:10 I wanna learn how to scream like that so badly!!!
Being "kevin" bro, u should can do that if ur "kevin"

those fills were real popular in 70's punk and some of the 80's new wave music.
this is awesome and sad at the same time~ :(
"Joy Division cover"??? Have a word! Its New Order doing a song they wrote as Joy Division!!
@rayvaughan3197 but Ian wrote the words and the vocal melody meaning he wrote 75% of the song or more
just love the hard ass base line from this song.......
Vero...nulla è piu come prima.! Once upon a time Joy Division!
I think they are in mood with Ian, and this is very sad and I think they play it a little aggressiv and emotional, but I understand that. My eyes are very wet, the water is not only in the clouds on this day. RIP Ian and Dance Dance Dance Dance Dance to the radio....

A great absence. Still a great song.
Just think if they had asked Sam Riley to perform This song...

Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) for me or Les Claymore (Primus).

Steve is so fuckin' awesome

Everyone griping about Bernard singing Ian’s part - Bernard wrote the song. Peter hook wrote most but this was Bernard’s.
Ian wrote the words and vocal melody. If he doesn't sing it, it is a cover song by a cover band!
People literally just put Ian Curtis comments on here for likes. That's really dumb because these are the people that wrote the music and Ian Curtis took himself out of the equation.
