Real Bout series hit impacts has some of the heaviest feeling attacks in any fighting game in my opinion.
Great video! I was really happy to see RB2 at the nr 1 spot! Garou in all its glory, but there's something with RB2 that makes it really fun to play. Super tight controls and the gameplay feels very satisfying.
Very fun vid! While I'm a diehard MOTW guy, it's irrefutable that RBFF2 is MEGA slept on. It and MOTW are so fucking good, and the sprites are eyegasmic. It's a crime how little people talk about RBFF2 cause god damn it's nice
Somehow knew that Garou isn't gonna be 1st here lol, but RB FF2 is goated and deserves as much recognition too
Garou MOTW and Real Bout Special are tied for 1st place in my opinion. Garou is amazing man, and yes I’m someone who’s actually played it (probably a little TOO much), I first played it around 2001 and was blown away, as a longtime fan of the Fatal Fury series it was shocking to see the roster pretty much gut everyone except Terry, but the amazing level of animation and detail blew me away, plus the gameplay is also at its best and most refined in my opinion as well.
It’s an excellent game and I feel it still doesn’t get the props it truly deserves. Ahem, moving on, I’d say my personal ranking is:
Garou MOTW=RB Special>RB2>FF Special>RB>Wild Ambition>FF2>FF3>Fatal Fury 1.
I honestly never cared much for Fatal Fury 3, I really like the presentation and the music is pretty good but the gameplay just irks me, I don’t like how weird the line system is in it (something definitely improved in the Real Bout games) and the roster is too small as well. Not to mention how fast matches are over because everything does so much damage.

I immediately gain respect for your video when you can appreciate all the beauty of the real bout series, the only down to RB2 is that it doesn't have an emphasis to the story, other than that, it is the Fatal Fury perfection!
I have to agree. Mark of the Wolves is a wonderful game, but there was just something amazing about RB2, it was the Street fighter Alpha 2 of the Fatal Fury series!!

Watched this whole video right before knocking out last and then dreamt that we met and became buds and played a bunch of different video games in So Cal and went to local spots. Sae was there too but as one of her lil drawn characters lol. Then we ended up in Mexico somehow and shit got sketchy and kinda spooky and then i woke up. Great video loved it man!!!!! 😅🤘

Huh. The park stage from KoF 99 is one of my favorite fighting game arenas of all time as well.
It's actually what got my attention the first time I layed eyes on the game being played at a local Arcade.
The only issue I have with real bout 2 is how gutted Geese's moveset is...AND HES STILL STRONG, balancing isn't that bad, I think, but Rick Strowd was by far one of FF's best additions. And yes I blame real bout 2 for spoiling me with Geese vacuum throw
I like to compare Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves to Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3. Real Bout 2 and Alpha 3 are pretty much your standard experience with both franchises cranked up to eleven and a dream match cast. Meanwhile, Garou and SF3 are your more experimental games with a mostly new roster.
I have to agree with RB2 being #1. As much as I love Fatal Fury 3 for its cinematic approach, RB2 EASILY has the better soundtrack and presentation.

I know I am heavily in the minority on this one, but I loved "Fatal Fury 3 Road to the Final Victory" as my favorite. I know many did not like the game mechanics, but I actually enjoyed them.
Where I live in the mid 90s there was always a queue on Fatal Fury 3 but Super Street Fighter 2 and Turbo where 2 minute away and nobody gave a damn about those games

Anyway I remember that Fatal Fury 1 caught my attention because of the plot but when I played it I hated it xD FF2 seemed better to me in everything and Special much better, but even so it was until Real Bout 1 that I really began to like the saga, it is my favorite because I loved that game for almost everything, Billy and Kim returned better than ever but in I especially liked the great death they gave Geese, in those years it was quite impressive to see that ending. I played 3 later and I hated the difficulty and how complicated it was to change planes. I liked Wild Ambition too, the intro is very good although the ending is bad, the gameplay is good but there are things that I don't like. I also like the other RBs a lot but I didn't love them. I would put RBS before RB2 because it has some details of the saga that I like and RB2 seems more like a dlc. And Mark of The Wolves seems like an excellent game to me, I think it would also be in my position 2, what I didn't like so much was the roster. Only Terry, Rock, Jenet and Kain are the characters that I really liked, but for example Terry in this game seems too slow and nerfed in terms of abilities.

FF RB & RBS > Garou MotW > Wild Ambition > FF RB2 > FF Special > FF3 > FF2 > FF1
The first Real Bout is totally underrated by most people. It features the best target/string combos of all the games, the out of bounds was fun, impressive supers, etc.
Btw. Geese has got the same Raging Storm in Real Bout Special (Nightmare Geese), and I personally prefer his Raging Storm in Real Bout 1. And the target combos in RB2 suck. I was actually disappointed when I bought the AES module back in 1998. It felt like a step back from RBS back then, and still does.
I also think that Real Bout 1 is the best in the series. Real Bout 1 has the most interesting gameplay process. But local bloggers apparently look at the games too superficially. And Real Bout 2 looks like a DLC. They didn't even try to improve it.
While MOTW would be #1 in my own list, I totally get the logic of having RB2 there, so I can't fault it.

I can understand Real Bout 2 being as high as it is. Garou plays great but if you actually CARE about Fatal Fury and the story, lore, characters, etc. and especially original gameplay then it's genuinely no real contest. You also really put into words why the original Real Bout felt a little flaccid. This series genuinely needs more ports
I first played the SGEN port of FF 2 in the mid 90s and I still love it today. I don't care for the original FF that much. I also don't like FF 2 on SNES, the music was terrible! Years later I played FF Special for SCD and now I have it and FF 3 from PSN. They're also good. I havent played the Real Bout FF games yet, but I will at some point. Theyre on PSN as well!

Real bout Fatal Fury special is still my number 1 fatal fury game simply because Terry has an infinite combo that would beat anyone one it hits and is very easy to pull off also Hon Fu rocked in this version compared to all his other appearances.

Subscribed because its a well done video but also this is perhaps the worst ever ranking of fatal fury games. Im just salty about some of the placings.

@@JohnSexDD it's such a difficult list to do. I moved to Japan in the early 90's when I was a kid so all thecapcom and snk games were a big part of my life. I just thought Fatal Fury Special should be number 1 or 2. It's still very popular in Japan and is basically the Super Turbo of SNK in my opinion. I think MOW is fantastic but also overated. It would probably be number 3 or 4 on my list behind RB2 and maybe RB Special? Those would be my top 4.
4:12 do you have a source that the Dev's noted that the game is unfinished?
I heard somewhere that there was some kind of earthquake/tornado/whatever that hindered real bout's development which would explain why it's so derivative of FF3 but looking now I can't find anything lol. Should've fact checked before putting it in the script, sorry.

garou is definitely number 1, but RBFF2 is without a doubt the 2nd best game in the seris (for now, COTW might change the top 3)
I wish I loved the lane system. But I don’t. I absolutely hate it, actually. Which is why I have spent the last 25 years being a MOTW diehard. That said, RB2 is kickass.

The Street Fighter influence was likely because they had the same creator and it took a bit for it to solidify it's identity from the same fingerprint.
