Thank you for suffering through Victory Road for us, your sacrifice was not in vain and we are forever grateful Also I'm a big fan of Ralf and Clark in KOF, and I'm really glad they managed to live past this series and become who they are. Plus them being in Metal Slug just feels so right to me
Not only that, but as weird as Victory Road is out of context, the fact that Metal Slug would adopt the sci fi weirdness DOES make the plot make more sense in retrospect.
The way I see KoF/SNK canon is that KoF is the “main” canon and all the others, such as the original canons they came from, are more of actors playing a role, similar to Mickey and Friends, the Muppets, or to a lesser extent Mario. Which is why the Ikari Warriors can exist in Vietnam and even World War 2, fight aliens, etc.
If you're ancient like me, Ikari Warriors was pretty much the series introduced our generation to SNK. Ikari 3 on NES is still a summertime favorite of mine.
Let's goooooo! I was waiting for this one, cause Ralf and Clark are my favourite SNK characters. There's some things I wanna add. Heidern probably was based off a character from the nes version of Ikari 3, which looks similar to him. Supposedly there was a mobile version of the first Ikari Warriors, I think only released in japan during the mid 2000, called Ikari Warriors: Leona or something like that, which included Leona as a playable character, but I've never seen any kind of footage of it (it's probably just lost media by now). I also was thinking about how a modern Ikari Warriors game would be and I imagined it something similar to Republic Commando, where you would play as Ralf giving commands the other characters, and each one would have their unique skills in combat or in other areas
I don't normally comment on videos, but I absolutely love this series going over SNK's lesser-known series. I actually went through all three Ikari Warriors games last October, and went through all the same pain as you did with the final boss of Victory Road. That was some shit, alright. Keep up the great work, man!
There is a small bit of Victory Road reference in KOF XV! While it's not Zada, Ralf & Clark get an updated version of their Victory Road theme, "A Storm of Cheers" when they face each other. One of the standout tracks of the game: th-cam.com/video/8p1SGW4qRpc/w-d-xo.html
I was looking for a place to put this in the video as BGM but couldn't fit it in lol Hope KOF XVI continues the trend and has a remix of the main theme from Ikari III since it's actually a decent tune
I wish you went into the ports for Ikari III, not just for completion, but the fact that Ikari III on NES is geniunely the best game in the lineup by far. Especially with a friend. Also Heidern made in first appearance in that port, so SNK handling that port themselves did FAR more than make a great game.
Gen. Kawasaki is named after the SNK founder, Eikichi Kawasaki, much like how Col. Cook is named after Tradewest/Leland Corporation's main man, Leland Cook
This was awesome! Always nice to see these games touched on. I used to play the hell out of both the cabs and the NES versions(Part 2 on NES was so weird, glitchy as hell but it was cool the way you could buy upgrades and everything. I liked it a lot more than the arcade version.) I always laughed at the way localizers did not think Ralf and Clark were not 'murican enough and they had to use Paul and Vince, which, for some reason, I guess sounded more 'murican. I think my attachment to the games(I still hit up NES Victory Road and 3) is more nostalgic over quality, 100%, they were definitely rage-games of their time, barring Ikari 3 which was pretty decent for its time, even if repetitive. I'd not recommend them to anyone who doesn't like 'old, buggy, quarter-hogs.' Couple things of note: TNK III/T.A.N.K(later Iron Tank on NES), which came out in 1985, featured 'Ralf Jones' as a playable character(though he drove a tank the whole time in this one.) Now given TNK III ook place in WWII, it's a mystery on who this Ralf is. A parent? Grandparent? Did he time travel more than once(if Ikari 2 featured time travel rather than visiting another planet, depending on what version of the game you play. After doing some digging research I had seen that apparently the arcade variant featured the guys in space, while the NES version featured them being flung somewhere far into the future to a place taken over by Zang Zip.) All that said I always like to say-while the events weren't mentioned in KOF...they were also never *Not* mentioned in KOF, either. I kinda like that they don't mention it here nor there. Anyway another good job. I'd totally love for them to give the old games a solid remaster one day where they take out the ragebait 80s coin-munching aspects and clean up the gameplay to be a little more modern(though preferably not first person or anything like that.)
Should you played Ikari Warriors? Dan: No. Me: Now I have to play it. Also I can't wait to see your next video on the Savage Reign and it's sequel Kizuna Encounter. Those games are fun and the bosses are sick!
these games are definitely the kind of thing that are a lot more fun if you have a second player to go through them with then trying to do by yourself, still crazy hard but more fun bc you can cover both sides of the screen better
Nice video. Golly! The Ikari Warriors trilogy are not very friendly, especially the second game 😅 If I had to play a vertically scrolling run and gun on the NEO GEO I would play Ninja Commando (made by Alpha Denshi/ADK) That game is much forgiving 😅 Oh! Looks like you are going to make a video about the Fu'un series (Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter) I am excited to see you talking about the main protagonist...King Lion (not King Leo) In the japanese manual of Kizuna Encounter it is revealed that King Lion won the tournament in the previous game and fought against King Leo.
In terms of the Ikari Warriors games, I'm a massive fan of the first 2 on arcades and 3 on NES (Made by SNK themselves, thank Christ.). Even if it's a game based on Fidel and Che, Guerrilla War counts as an Ikari game for me, lol. Arcade and NES
Ikari Warriors was one of my favorite series, my friends ridiculed me because I like Ikari more than Contra lol. That said, it’s an exponentially better game when you play multiplayer.
About them slow...cutscenes (?) from the NES Victory Road...somebody at SNK did that on purpose. Because it was also Morse Code. It was actually a selling point on the box, that the slow ass narrative was all spelled out in Morse Code. That was the only Ikari game I ever played, fought the last boss for a VERY long time and STILL died. A-B-B-A stopped working. Never touched the series again. Why did SNK do that to children?
Wait till you find out the original Irari 3 used the rotary sticks some emu's or compilations have a setting to point to aim... oh and your supposed to push jump and punch at the same time to toss your gun away. (I think you didn't know you could punch)
Based on what I just witnessed, Ikari Warriors was saved by KoF but some of the ideas for the game was just....steal quarters. I do wonder what 2 player mode would have been like and if it would have been a better experience or worse due to being bound by both player's movement. That explosion thing from IK1 sounded like BS and....I think if they wanted to do something on a budget they could do Ikari Warriors again...soo much time has passed they have to know how to make a good game at this point. I didn't play KoF Sky Stage....but did you and would you think it'd be an ok template?
Okay, the helicopters do spray a lot of bullets but there are clearly good spaces to stand in, ie slightly to the left or right of the center bullet from the helicopter, then just throw a grenade and...well, maybe die from the debris...but hopefully not. Still, not so tought to deal with the helicopters when you see the pattern. Other shit is more unfair, like the enemy soldies having unlimited ammo and unlimited grenades and moving faster and shooting faster than you.
This video shows why unlimited continues on arcade game rereleases is a mistake. Your not suppose to credit feed your way once through the game, but go back to the start and see what you can do better. Imagine the Binding of Isaac gave you an option to respawn right there on the spot as often as you want, then everyone would just respawn spam through mama in 20 min and say "unfair Zelda clone, fortunately not too long". Most twin-stick shooters and shoot'em ups don't require fast reflexes but rather intelligent positioning: If you find yourself in an unescapable situation, it's because you didn't prioritize the right enemies 5 seconds earlier.
Not that I disagree with you, but what the hell is going on with your digital copy of the SNK 40th Anniversary collection? I don't know what you were visualizing with regards to uninstalling Victory Road, but it didn't look like Steam. You also don't seem to be using the right stick correctly. You're expected to rotate it with your right stick (a nice translation of the loop lever) to swing the sword in Victory Road and do roundhouses in Ikari 3. Both of those are the best moves in their respective games, though you can lose the sword pretty fast given the stupid difficulty. You also make comments about things that the collection's museum section at least somewhat answers. Did you even bother looking in the thing you were playing these on???
Both the Ikari series and Psycho Soldier were captured thru MAME, not the Anniversary Collection. I was aware that there is an explanation for Victory Road's weird plot on it's cabinet by the time I finished this video, but I had already recorded the part where I look at the NES version's intro and didn't want to remove it because it was funny
Why in the hell would you play it through an emulator when you have the 40th Anniversary collection? Getting the ROM out of that thing’s code to play an inferior version with less features seems like way more trouble than it’s worth. My point about looking at the museum still stands.
No. That would be fucking stupid. That would have to mean you’re stealing your games instead of just paying 10-15 dollars for a collection with all of them in one place with extras.
Can't believe there's no Hidden Gay Sex between Ralf and Clark in the older games , Just Two Comrades Fighting . Clearly show how SNK has biased Shipping 😒😒😒. Anyway,Great Video 👍

I can feel you going insane the longer this video goes on cause holy hell video games should have not made it past the 80’s
Definitely give Shock Troopers a try! I feel it's the spiritual successor to Ikari Warriors, but actually really good
