    About 30 years ago down at Lake Fork in Texas on top of gopher digging mound of dirt a 9 1/4” long solid white spear point. I guess the gopher dug it out. It is in perfect condition. Only the second artifact I’ve ever found.

    That's a real beauty! What always amazes me is when I find an unbroken piece in a field that's been plowed and tilled for several hundred years, but somehow the piece survived intact. I never get tired of finding any artifact, broken or whole. Still thrills me! I recently found some good pieces in a freshly graveled school playground. The gravel company dredges the TN. River then sells the gravel. SCORE!

      I know my grandpa drove over that point with the ford 9n hundreds of times. I was destined to find it when I did! There is some killer stuff at the bottom of the TN river…my dad used to scuba dive down there and found some good stuff.

    My bro-in-laws were walking around the normal low-flow creek but all gravel banks with a kid from their own neighborhood from Hazelwood, MO. The creek is in the town limits of Fordland, MO and just meanders through the dairy countryside. It wasn't unusual to swim or swing from a rope into this beautiful setting. The young man named Dave decided he wanted to journey up the side of a bluff about 30+ feet upwards from the creek. It looked treacherous from Bill and Dan's standpoint but he made it and found three beautiful arrowheads and one being made. Can you even imagine?
    He said he could see for miles and felt something just standing on that rock letting his imagination build on that experience.
    Thanks, for sharing. LOVED, SUBSCRIBED, &DING!!!

    The real question is do you try to identify your geolocation. What kinds of data do you collect to help with possible research into distribution of/types of artifacts. Could be important.

    • @RobsRelics
      @RobsRelics  ปีที่แล้ว

      I spend a ton of time studying maps and elevations to find artifacts. There is an app called HuntStand that I use to record all of my finds and see if there is any correlation as to specific point types and cultures who inhabited the area. That is one of my favorite parts of the hobby is to try and figure out why native people were drawn to an area and how long they stayed there.

    • @RobsRelics
      @RobsRelics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it could be Burlington chert but I’m not 100% sure. It is a little chunky but they did the best they could with it. Most likely a large spearhead. I’m blessed to be able to show it off for years to come! Thanks for the comment

    • @jimajello1028
      @jimajello1028 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tks for your reply. I think your are right it is a bit chunky but perhaps that would stand up strong into the Hyde of a large animal of that time period. So cool to think that they may have even used a spear thrower. I think the base truly resembles a Graham Cave more than other types. I have a Graham Cave that is about half that size, made from alabates and is fluted on one side. It was found by a friend in Missouri when he lived there. He gifted it to me. Thank you Rob for sharing your find & the communications relating to it. Fascinating find!

    That's a wonderful point. Will you be allowed to keep it? We, in California have regulations that we should leave artifacts where we found them. Of course, many don't do that. I remember staying with a friend in Sausalito CA at age 10. There was a vacant lot next door covered with flint arrowheads. We played in that lot, but left the arrowheads where they were. I imagine they are gone by now and a house is on that lot. That was in 1950.

    • @RobsRelics
      @RobsRelics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes as long as it’s private property with permission from landowner it’s permitted to keep artifacts. Public land is a no go of course. The way I see it, if I don’t pick it up there is a very good chance it will be lost forever. But some people think it’s moral to leave it and I understand their perspective as well.

    • @RobsRelics
      @RobsRelics  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is one of my favorite things about this hobby is imagining the people back then and how times have changed. Personally, I don't think they had as much stress and anxiety as we have today. They didn't have to worry about money. But we don't have to worry about hypothermia and being attacked by wild animals. They were definitely a tougher people. I never thought of them being happy but I think they very well could have been. Thanks for challenging my critical thinking today. Have a good one!

    From what I'm told the native indians roamed freely for about 10, 000 years, in all of that time they only worked stone, all of the hunting areas, camp sites, gathering places and where battles took place will gave evidence of their existance.
    As they took such a long time to make arrows were reclaimed where possible.
    Some did leave a cache of started blanks and even finished heads were hidden rather than carried around but I still believe that any straight line ditch or boundary will hold little or nothing but waterways, crossings and shallows are worth getting I with riddles and sieving through for not just artifacts but also minerals if they are known to be found in that area.
    Good hunting.

    Very nice. Private land with permission is the only way to go. I was never allowed to keep any of my finds on public land. Egregious laws that prevent you from keeping your finds do nothing but make criminals of honest men and enable unscrupulous archeologists too lazy to find their own to put your finds in Their collections.

    • @RobsRelics
      @RobsRelics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I’ve heard of some stories of archaeologists doing land owners wrong and keeping artifacts despite promising to let the land owner keep them. Its a flawed system for sure. Thanks for checking out my video!

    • @jellycream1964
      @jellycream1964 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? You cannot keep anything you find on all public lands or are u just talking native artifacts? Even the national forest? Those public lands are ours, the citizens land.

    • @RobsRelics
      @RobsRelics  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jellycream1964 I’ve been told most states won’t let you keep anything over 100 years old (bottles, coins, artifacts) but that varies of course. I would definitely stay away from the national parks as far as collecting. A lot has changed over the last 50 years for relic hunters.

    • @jellycream1964
      @jellycream1964 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rob’s Relics then it certainly isn't a free country. How would the state know? Do they expect people to turn things over to them? 😂🤣 yeah right. Like the man said, they want to turn explorers who happen to find things into criminals
