    Wow! Smoker Agate Basin/ Packard complex. I got some backup opinion on it, made of heavily patinated Frisco chert.

      Leland, sorry the surprise wasn't as much as a surprise for you as everyone else since I asked you to help me ID it before the video went out. I want to thank you again for all the help you gave me and all the people you reached out to in order to further confirm the type/material. You've been an enormous help and great encouragement to me. When I hear someone like you is impressed with one of my finds it is humbling. Thanks again buddy!

    You were a lucky man that day. That point at the end of the day is I believe a agate basin of the late Paleo period and is a beautiful point. It makes me remember my first Paleo piece, I was working on a farm and the owner cleared some new fields and I decided to hunt them for artifacts and I walked up on a Clovis site. I found 3 nice beautiful Clovis points and several Clovis knives and tools. I have never found anything like that since and I doubt I ever will. 3 Clovis points and a pocket full of Clovis tools in one day will be hard to beat. I still have every piece in one frame telling where I found them. I have been offered several thousand dollars for the frame but keep turning it down. No amount of money is worth the best hunt I have ever had

      Puffin, first of all thank you for the kind words! Secondly, don't get discouraged. Wherever you are I can almost guarantee you there is some kind of adventuring/treasure hunting that you could find to get into. Artifacts, fossils, bottles, marbles, magnet fishing, metal detecting, antiquing, etc....there's bound to be something for you out there! Oddly enough, until about 3 years ago when I started arrowhead hunting I also thought that there wasn't anything like this in my area. I always wanted to find arrowheads but I never bothered looking because I just assumed there wasn't much of it where I live...but I was very wrong. You know they killed our alligator? I felt kind of bad for it. I don't know why they didn't take it to the zoo or one of our safari places. In places like where you live and in Louisiana where I was born gators are just a part of life and people just kind of give them their space and don't worry about them too much. But I guess it really freaked people out here. I do know the lake they found it in is not very large and has a lot of families with small children that play in the area so I understand. Still a shame though.

    Salut Shadow and Man,
    I hope you're well, been a few weeks!
    Crinoid cleanup! Seems the river classified those fossils really well! When I was a kid there was a certain creek I'd harvest brachiopodae from. One year, in that certain leg and bend, I filled my pockets with insanely perfect specimens, so sharp was the details of some.... they could 3asily cut you! Awesome artifacts, and those are buffalo teeth? ....I've found a few myself, up here in Indiana....
    Seems the first point coulda been a fish spear, too bad on the broke, but you made a nice recovery for the win with all the other artifacts! I always tell myself to " force, think, and look for smalls", always helps! Seems that you need no advice at all! What an incredible finish.... congratulations!
    Keep it up, Cheers and Blessings!

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's amazing to me how the river classifies stuff like that sometimes. For some reason I guess the perfect amount of water flow uncovered/deposited the perfect type of material to find great crinoids in. Do you still have some of your brachiopods? Would love to see them sometime. As for the teeth, I'm never really sure. I don't know how to ID bones AT ALL. I suspect that they probably are quite old. At least most of them. But I'm never really sure. I love finding them either way! Great to hear from you, jarmy!

      Dude,I sent a similar message and felt the same way.it could have been a finished artifact.it was so symmetrical and balanced.it had the perfect shape.and that material is such a dream to knap into any shape you choose.that type of material is what all indians desired and they didn't pay alot on ebay,but they paid or traded alot for it in their day.because it would cut like a razor blade,and they could shape it into any form.a beautiful epic once in a lifetime arrowhead is made with relative ease and quickness .making one was easy.finding or aquireing the material was the hard part.quarrying it was how it's produced.it's a ton of rocks and mined boulders., literally that the Indians had to beat and wack and bust open before they found that level of chert.they mined many other grades of high grade stuff until the super grade stuff .they would trade this type of rock as if it were gold,or cold cash.they could get anything with a sack full of this.i could have whacked out a spear point from it in 4 minutes standing in the river behind him using anything.another rock antler,anything.

    Packard point. Younger than Agate Basin, contemporary with late Hell Gap. Many folks assume they are a different style of Agate Basin, but they are an altogether different point. They differ as much from Agate Basin as does Hell Gap. Packard also seem to be confined to the Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas region. Don't let anyone talk you into selling that thing.

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could very well be a Packard! A lot of shared similarity there for sure. I don't really know 100% what it is. I'm so new to this that I'm trying to combine a number of approaches to cautiously arrive at a positive ID on anything I find. Even then, I still remain open to correction. Personal research, soliciting expert opinion, and of course the court of public opinion here at TH-cam University (haha) are some of the approaches I use to try and arrive at a conclusion. A lot of good people like yourself have offered me some really good information and different perspectives to consider ( I DO consider them) and I thank you for taking the time to try and help me. Lord knows I need all the help I can get. I've found arrowhead ID to be one of the more frustrating endeavors I've ever engaged in! Thanks again, midesti! p.s. Agate Basin, Packard, Hell Gap, Sedalia... whatever it is I won't ever sell it. I have no interest at all in the market side of arrowhead hunting. None. I do it purely for the joy of the discovery and the sense of wonder I feel from discovering them. It's the history and the craftsmanship that I find valuable and the opportunity this platform allows for me to share it. From the broken pooters to the killer Packards - I look at them all with the same sense of awe.
