Been dailying my GR Corolla for 8000miles now, loved every minute of it.
my only gripes: the wireless charging pad is useless with an iphone, the screen should fold away and be invisible, and sometimes idle sounds a little rattly for no clear reason. Otherwise, it's an absolute dream, especially if you live in the mountains.
Pick mine up this week 🥲 24’ premium Can’t wait
@@shauncosgrove8740 how do you like it
@@CCdion23 I love it, just over 1000 miles on it now and it’s been fantastic
I have one, love it, no problems, owned many hatches as my dedicated daily, this is the best one yet. Own GT3 and other more expensive cars…I can not believe I can buy a new car like this manual only with a handbrake 5 seats in 2024 🙏🙏 great job Toyota! P.S. the longer you own it the more you like it.
I agree!! 💯
I call bs. 😂
Can you elaborate? Why bs? What’s so unbelievable/outlandish? That ppl are successful and have nice things? Pls explain.
I say this bc, I see the exactly opposite……owning many different performance cars myself thru the years, currently have an r8 amongst other things, I share his exact thoughts on the grc, it’s tremendous fun and gets better the more you drive it. One of the best daily’s on the road. And actually useable day to day and in all weather. Still feels funny calling a Corolla is a true “drivers car”. But it absolutely is.
@@oraclemiata845How is this BS? I also own an M4, Hellcat, 2016 Ram 2500 and my wife daily’s a 21 Range Rover HSE L P525 and I just picked up my GR Corolla Circuit Edition Friday! I have to say, it is by far my favorite car I’ve driven in a very long time! I’ve owned ever gen M3 since the E36 up and still have my F82 M4. I almost bought a ‘23 M3 AWD w/ 1,400 miles but didn’t want to spend another almost $100k out the door so I bought the GRCircuit! And I’m so happy I did, it reminds me I don’t have to spend 6 figures on a car to truly love and enjoy it.
I purchased my Circuit Edition in May of last year and have since put on 10,000 miles. This car is a blast to drive around and hasn't had a single driveability concern. Sure, it's nothing fancy, but it is definitely well built and engineered.
I've done two track days in the car as well. Main thing to consider with track use is oil temperature and ITCC temperature. Stock tires are not up to the task at full tilt too. But boy does the platform have potential with some modifications.
Because rear diff overdrive rear tires and that 50/50 and specially 70/30 overheats the clutch pack due to constant sliping. There should be someone out there building gears to put the same ratio in the rear diff the same as in the front.
I have a 2023 Circuit Edition. Easily one of my all time favs in 40+ years of driving. Absolute riot to drive on winding roads and through corners.
@@Rocket9944 Yes GR Corolla. Moto man is reviewing a GR Corolla Circuit Edition in this video. 🍺
I have buyer's remorse because I bought an electric compact SUV instead of this more exciting car, or something similar. Well, I'm a boring person, I always for the safest car.
How did you get one none of the dealers near and far away from me have one they don't even have the base model gr
@@Jesse-ff6hb Patience, persistence and luck
This GR Corolla, in this color is STUNNING! Toyota really made something special here. Wow! This is the kind of car you buy for yourself and for the love of driving. You don't buy this car to try to "impress" others although, real car people will be impressed.
Absolutely, couple of my friends found it funny that most cars just drive by and don’t look twice…..but ppl in legit cars, things that can cost 3-4x this thing will give thumbs up or stop and ask questions, real car ppl, and younger enthusiasts. And I’ll tell you, great cars get better the more you drive it , certainly is the case with this one imo.
@@KN-jw7ts Agreed!
Looks better on the Focus RS or MK7 Rabbit Edition or the MK5 Supra
dude the way you speak about this car is damn near poetry. subscribed in just 2 minutes of watching.
Buy one George, because you won’t have to worry about it, like the Porsche on daily drives!
I was up for the GR Corolla Circuit, but ended up going with the Type R instead. Civic offered me more room for our grocery duties as we live 1.5 hrs away from real stores. Either way they are a blast, and I am so grateful these things exist, especially in these days of boring cars and clones.
Yeah with a commute like that the Type R is the sensible of the two options, but the GR Corolla can haul a lot with the back seats down. Its great for college.
I have the 2024 Core + Performance Pack. I got it for MSRP $38.5k. I bought it as my daily because of the reasons you mentioned, and don't plan to track it. have no problem with the car so far. Also, I am glad it doesn’t have a sunroof 😂
you got it for MSRP?! 😲
Did you finance it? I sometimes consider selling my rsx type s to put towards a down payment lol
Got my CE at MSRP too, congrats bro 👍🏽
Must be nice, I didn't MSRP :'(
Wishlist #1: This powertrain in a Corolla Touring wagon. Would be a sensational combination hands down.
Oh yeah baby.
why would you make it heavier
this does not need to be heavier nor have a longer wheelbase.
id like to see one too but dont think it was intended to be practical
I’ve had mine for almost a week now and absolutely love it, I actually bought my 2024 with 15 miles under MSRP!! They gave me a great deal and they really helped me out! I can’t wait to get past that 1000 mile mark! And yes I’m driving it 10 miles every day for work only, so it will be a while lol
Hats off to Toyota , many thanks for the real world take
I have daily driven one in the Midwest for a year, 21k. I drive it very hard and rarely shift below 4k. Averaging 23.7mpg, closer to 25mpg outside winter. Originally I was on the fence with how loud the exhaust was because I didn’t want to look/sound ridiculous when I pulled into a physician parking lot, but the exhaust note smoothed out with age. It’s honestly great as is, but I’m holding out for some Ohlins coilovers, feel like they will take the car from spectacular to perfection. I’m pretty value oriented, never thought I’d buy a new car, but the GRC is an unbelievable value that will be hard to replicate if you value nimbleness/rawness/lower curb weight, which is the same as an ‘04 STi/Evo
I don't own this car but would love to in 4 or 5 years time. As someone who has never driven manual before what are your impressions for city driving and ease of use?
I bought a 2023 fully loaded core back in October and it’s been amazing
That flame blue is a great colour.
Looks better on the MK5 Supra, Focus RS and MK7 Rabbit
Awesome!
Simply elegant
I bought a GR Corolla Circuit new last year. I like the car! Prodigious grip in the rain. Very composed while going fast. Has some features like heated seats and steering wheel not available on other cars. It’s not the best performance car ever but it’s entertaining and fun to drive. I'll keep my GRC for a good long time. I considered other cars like the BMW X-1 & 2-series, Porsche Boxster GTS & 911T. Even the new Mustang GT was on my radar. It was a tough choice! In the end Toyota reliability and the practicality of a hatchback made a difference.
I have the auto for almost 2 yrs., with no problems. just upgraded the suspension to remove the bumping drive. it is great now........
Thumbnail = 🔥🔥🔥
Fair analysis.
Motoman- another great video! Now… you fly airplanes, right? Could one feasibly daily an airplane? There’s a video I’d love to see! Cessna 150 is the Corolla here
Oh my goodness....a car on this channel real people can actual own! :)
Oh my goodness… a car - and not a CUV, SUV or truck - on a TH-cam car channel. Am I dreaming!?
When you mention about the horn, I screamed YES! I thought I the few that felt disappointed about it. Nobody doesn't take it seriously when you use the horn. It sounds like motor scooter.
3000 miles on my 24 GR. This car is so much fun to drive!! I like the horn. It's polite and it works. I prompted a motorist in front of me to proceed on green light and it worked.
You'll absolutely get destroyed by a MK8 Golf R
I have a fully loaded base GRC & its the best daily I've had. Driving around town has never been more fun & especially when you're hitting the canyons. I traded my GR86 for it & don't regret a thing
I’ve had a gr86, I’m considering a gr corolla circuit edition
How much bigger is the trunk w the seats up on the GR? Both look tiny, but useable
I own one. Did my track day at Ozark International Raceway. I have had zero problems. I love this car.
Good first attempt at a hot hatch … can’t wait until til they sort things out with future versions.
Great review and the awesome Blue Flame paint scheme begs a cosmetic question for the paint matching of outside mirrors and the rear piano black spoiler so they don’t look like aftermarket add-on accessories… C’est la vie 😎
Got my GRC in June 2023, no issues. Down side, living in the south with major hail storms, I freak out with the carbon fiber roof when we get the hail alerts. The car likes to drink lots of premium petrol, but that could be my driving. The suspension is on the hard side, but this is my daily but so far it has been fine. My fave part, after a hard day at work, the commute home is awesome! I would like the Morizo gear set in the Circuit or Core......the Morizo has rear wiper, deal breaker ;).
Excellent, practical, and mature review. No armrest would get old fast on a longer commute/trip. Such an easy fix too…add a fold down armrest attached to the seat IMO. At 40k, for me its between this (Core w/ Perf Pack) or a WRX Limited.
Or just spend $119 through a company called SXTH and you’ll have a sweet armrest.
Fun car, that gets 50% of my seat time. She is a thirsty gal for a 1.6L/3cyl, modest fuel tank size for the mpg. Pet peeve is a spare tire, thank goodness there is a remedy (armrest too). MotoMan, enjoy your insight on the GR. Thanks
My first four cars were the old Datsun 510’s, I’m in a midlife crisis and need one. The local had a Moritso in the showroom.
I remember when a Porsche 911 had 177 horse power in the late 70s and early 80s with a flat six . We have come a long way .
True but then F1 was pulling well north of 1000hp from a 1.5 four cylinder Turbo in the 80s and called it Megatron FFS 🤣
@@sugarsaintI think those engines could do only one race.... Maybe😂
I really like the car and I’ve never thought of a Corolla as a badass car but this package in this shade of blue WITH a manual transmission and a turbo has changed my perspective. I guess this is considered a hot hatch? I want one. I’m going to start looking for one to buy
I have a 2023 loaded Core and I love it. I got the very first one at my local dealer for MSRP and it's an absolute blast to drive. I do agree with you about a sunroof though! I always said that the Core should have had the option for a sunroof, that would have been fantastic. For the Circuit and Morizo it would be a no go with the CF roof.
I have to have sunroof. Got a 23 bmw m3 manual and broke ///m code and got it with a moonroof on purpose, like my last m4… get what you want is all I’m saying
@@chris3774 I have my 2009 Corolla S that I turbocharged and I've done a lot to that car and it has a sunroof. It's a great road trip car. I just can't do a BMW after owning Toyotas. The reliability of a Toyota compared to a BMW can't be beat either as they are much less costly to maintain. That BMW will be a blast to drive though and I'll be envious of your sunroof! Enjoy it!
I got mine 2024 circuit in January its dope my daily car
My short shortlist included GR Corolla, Veloster N, ND3 Miata, and GR86/BRZ. Ended up in a BRZ tS but it was a very close thing.
I'm seriously considering shopping for a pre-owned core by the end of the year to replace my older daily 06 g35 coupe (still fun and runs great so no rush I'll wait for a deal)
Imagine family wagon of this. That would be ultimate coolness
A much more practical/money friendly RS6... Sign me up.
I've owned two for a year at this point. While mechanically they are prefectly sound, the build quality is horrendous. After 2000 miles or so each has developed levels of interior creaking and rattling that makes them irritating to use as daily, cause if you're not cranking that 3-cylinder to its revolution limits, that rattling is absolutely unlivable with.
Yeah I would like a sunroof too! 👍
Own a Core. Great car. There is an intermittent droning sound when cruising at 75mph. Not sure what that is but others on the owner forums have experienced the same.
Nice scenic drive past PV country club. This or WRX TR as a practical daily?
looks beautiful, the handbrake makes me want it more, moonroof would be nice as well
Sunroofs are terrible
I just picked up a 24 circuit edition Friday, every trip in that car I cannot stop smiling, from the exhaust tone to how smooth the power delivery is. Love every bit of it
I got to test drive the 23 and although I haven't been able to get one personally, I loved it, only issue I have is the customization options they are giving us right now (colors, carbon fiber roof, wing)
Test drive, you prodded my memory. I went to pick up my Core 2/23. Bought it sight unseen. Talk about all in, very much out to the norm for me.
The best modification ive done to my circuit edition was to ditch the goofy tall oem knob and install a shorter cusco delrin knob. Having it lower down with a single piece knob (not two piece like OEM) drastically changes the feel.
I LOVE MY MX5 RF! They are the best car to buy with the smile on your face! 2021 MX5 RF $20,500 cannot happier than that deal in the USA! Guess what? I can also live in both world. One with coup and the other with convertible. I can enjoy all year round 😆
Racer-X shift linkage bushings & DC Racing shifter base bushings will give you the "Miata" feel your looking for
Did you install the DC base bushings? Was it hard to remove clips? I backed out when I saw all the clips I might break for the harnesses around the shifter base. I installed my reverse lockout after taking apart my interior at least.
I’ve had my gr corolla for a year! Really think I’m gonna try to trade into a blue one
Well , I have the XSE Manual 6 speed 😂. It’s no GR but it’s a blast to drive , could only imagine how fun this car is. Another thing , others have complained about the build quality of thier GR , I will say I’ve owned my car for 4 years and I have zero squeaks or rattles from Anything in my car. Sooooo idk if they cheaped out in the GR but that’s on y’all . I also own an Accord touring 2.0. This is more fun .
Lack of a sun roof is an amazing pro for the GR Corolla as a do-everything car, if only cause u ain’t going to be hauling stuff by trailer hitch with the triple exhaust. If u want to haul kayaks and bikes, it’ll have to be by the roof, and I hate needing to worry bout scratching up a sun roof.
From Oz here. I’ve owned a GR Yaris for three years and also a Morizo Corolla. Both have been exceptional vehicles and have certainly been spared no mercy in the way they’ve been driven. Both give the German Panzers a very hard time on mountain twisties and when it’s wet, those cars will not see which way these cars went.
Among the GRY and the GRC, which one is your favourite? If you have driven a non-morizo GRC, was it way more understeery than the GRY?
@@HugoNing I would say the GR Yaris is my favourite because it’s nearly 170kg lighter than the Corolla and you can feel it. I drove the lesser Corolla’s and didn’t like them. Too much roll and not sharp enough in the turn in for my taste compared to the Morizo and Yaris. Still great cars but I feel they need to be stiffer in the front end and require thicker front sway bars
@@darrenprior6339 thank you! It’s hard to find good comparisons of the GRY and GRC.
@@HugoNing You’re welcome
Man it would be so cool if that color was available for Core
My parents always bought corollas and now I do the same, we have not had any issue with these cars besides the usual wear and tear over the years. Zero mechanical issue just to mention
Have a 24' with PP purchased at MSRP. Would have preferred a sunroof, but dont miss it or the center armrest like I thought I would.
Aftermarket armrest, easy install. Spare tire can be done too, youtube how too.
Although the new Lexus model or Toyota with a DSG may change my mind, when I went searching for a fun daily (I have a 2008 C4S for fun) I drove 10-12 cars and when the Kia dealer offered me a new 2023 EV6 GT for $45.5k I couldn’t resist. I know the Ioniq N is coming, but I’m not a fan of the styling. The EV6 GT is a blast to drive, built like a tank (so far) and for my needs I can’t imagine a better car.
I'm at a Lil over 12,000 miles and not one problem and it's an absolute Beast
Wish list? How about the GR Corolla drivetrain in the European Corolla Touring Sports wagon body? 😉😉
Ever find it odd it has face of non sport model sedan LE/XLE vs grill of SE/XSE?
Speaks volumes that a guy like you wants to buy one.
I love hot hatches but I’m wondering how cool a wide body sedan version would look?
I ordered one as a daily.. hopefully should be here in a few weeks but not sure why so much hype when the Golf R exists which is a nicer and more refined daily.
Well why don’t you get that one? A 3 cylinder, rally inspired don’t come along every day. A Golf R is an everyday, every year car. Nothing special about it, they’ll build a different model next year and change the taillights.
9:29 LOL
The Circuit Edition is expensive but rhe mechanically identical Core has no equal in rhe performance compact space for ~$38k. Got my 23 loaded Core at sticker for under $40K.
My 2017 Volvo v60 T6 is a 300hp daily.. Awd as well..
Wants a Moriso , with a roll cage and sunroof. Get on it Toyoda😎👍
Daily a track car? Where is my mouth guard?
You have to change the name of your videos. People will search for gr corolla.and never find this.
“The algorithm ain’t gonna change until you learn basic SEO, ありがとう ございます.”
there's tagging in the description
Just put it in the description, it's what matpat does
Looking up GR Corolla is how I found this.
"Search" isn't the only way it works. I didn't even search, but this video was suggested to me, as the algorithm already knows I'm interested in GR Corollas. Plus he has so many subs that no one needs to search, they get notified of his new videos.
I have a yaris edition and enjoy drive on the autobahn.
It pains me to say the following:
I finally saw one of these cars in the wild. I've been anxiously awaiting its arrival ever since i heard that the GR Corolla was coming to the US.
I currently drive a Fiesta ST that i bought new in 2018. I've put close to $10k in parts, and all my own labor into the car. Never dyno-ed, but have an educated guess that it makes 285 hp to the wheels on E30 tune. I thoroughly enjoy the car. Very few times have I "needed" more car. I've made multiple trips to home depot. With no rear seats ive hauled up to 14 8ft 2x4's. Ive finished my wood floors and lugged home the belt sander rental. In its current format the rear seats are back in, and I've removed the passenger seat because life happens and i have my 2 year old son as a constant co-pilot with a rather large carseat.
I love the fiesta. But you know what i really love the most? It was AFFORDABLE! In 2018 i bought it for right around $22k back when I was single and making $65k a year. Now that I'm married and we've each had promotions, with a household income of over $200k, i still can't see myself paying $45k + for a hot hatch!
The price is unreasonable. Yes, it is incredible that Toyota has come up with this screaming 3 cylinder drive train. Yes, its AWD. Yes, its got fun for days. But that price is what ruins it for me!
I seriously doubt that a 40 year old, middle management, dad is their target demographic. Aren't they after the 26 to 36 yr olds? You're telling me that there's enough of a market share in that age, that can afford this vehicle as a daily driver? I truly think that a $32k WRX with $8k in aftermarket bolt ons and a weekend worth of wrenching in the garage will yield a more potent vehicle, and STILL be under the $45k price point of the GR.
Don't get me wrong, i love the GR. I want the GR. I could afford the GR. But i can't see this car being around long if it doesn't become more affordable. Maybe I'm wrong.
Maybe I'm a penny pincher who likes putting money into retirement and not Toyotas finance department.
I'm with you on the sunroof. Buy the car you want; there's a good chance someone else wants the same thing, otherwise it wouldn't be offered in the first place. The people who complain about it adding weight can probably offset it by losing a few pounds. -Guy with M2 and a sunroof
What a great car! Although at $46k (for this model), at that point I think I'd rather pay a few extra dollars and go with the Integra Type-S (although I'm probably biased since I did buy a Type-S)
The ITS is a better "car" then a GR Corrilla Circuit (full disclosure: I own a 2023 GRC Circuit) but what we are comparing a FWD chassis to an AWD chassis and that is a deal breaker when you live 5 months in the white stuff. Plus, the other difference, and this is the big one, is the ITR and CTR are made in Honda's general assembly plant where as the GRC is made by hand in the same plant that created to Lexus LFA. Hell, the carbon fiber roof of the GRC is $16,000 at your local Toyota dealer! The value for money of the GRC goes way beyond just an expensive Corolla. It is remarkable value for money... A baby Nissan GT-R on the clearance rack. As time goes buy, the GR Corolla, like the GR Yaris, will hold value like few other cars in this segment. The ITR is a better daily in my opinion but the GRC is special.
@@abikepeddler I don't disagree at all, especially if you need AWD. The GRC is definitely a great car!
I think I noticed a defect in one of the tires. At 2:08 look at the tire just above the letter "I". I recently had a tire replaced for this reason.
I would definitely daily the GR Corolla. The CX30 or Mazda3 are the only other cars that are on my list. The Civic Type R and Golf R are great but aren't my first choice
That infotainment screen. It's this massive monolith in the middle and sticks so far out, wonder how that affects visibility. I think that would drive me insane.
A lower cylinder count is associated with greater torque, FYI. I have the chance to get one of these, but its biggest advantage seems to be all-weather driving, and I'd be worried about exposing it to salt, knowing how horribly it (and all cars) will corrode. If I limit it to 3 seasons, I don't know that it's the best choice.
I hope we can install an aftermarket armrest 😂
there is a black one in my area. that blue color is way better. it makes the nice shape of the body very visible
I've been driving a GR Yaris since january 2022 without a single problem or issue. Very reliable so far. Only thing is that the GR Yaris has an identity crisis: it's too extreme to be a daily/hot hatch (very boring to drive slowly, bad clutch take-up, no low-down torque or response, no shopping bag hooks or lights in boot, useless entry to back seats, very loud interior) and it's not exotic enough looking and feeling for a weekend car.
I hope the GR Corolla leans a bit more towards daily/hot hatch side of things.
すごい!
4:18 YES this was a huge factor when considering this car that surpringly a lot of people didnt understand. They be telling me that im the "test guinea pig." When in reality the engine has already been around in europe and had problems not nearly as prevalent as say the gr86 or other cars made first year.
And for my first year of ownership, it's been nothing too major, just oil changes and general maintenance l.
One common issue that apparently toyota knows is a squeak in the brake pedal. Some days it's really prevalent and annoying, other days it doesn't squeak once.
The only time I heard of these engines blowing up is from mis-shifts (as the rockers are held in by valve spring pressure but does not have retaining clips) an easy remedy is to never redline the car 100% of the power happens at 3k to 5k rpms.
Or blowing up because they were pushed too hard without being built (450+ hp on stock internaps) or transmission/clutch issues when taken to the track.
This is all of what I've heard. But my personal experience? Car is basically flawless.
They say Lexus version coming + Automatic version too (GR Yaris for sure - and GR Yaris 200 kg lighter)
They will sell alot more GR Yaris/Corolla when it come out in auto
I believe so. The new GR Yaris Auto has already been tested on track (videos available here on TH-cam) and of course, it is much faster than the manual@@fale892
You probably had $46k in options on your 911.
I'll take a Miata. For the same price, l can drive a LEGEND.
I'd daily this...very cool little car. I just refuse to hunt them down just to fight the dealers on ADM.
im hoping eventually ppl will change the thought of "for a corolla." ive never heard ppl say this for r's, type s', wrx's, gti's, or RS'. its a class of its own.
SXTH Element makes a reasonably priced GR Corolla Arm Rest
I currently own a blue XSE hatch and am about to pay it off. I'm really torn on trading it for the blue circuit or eat the payments and have 2 blue corollas😂
Can a 6ft 3 guy fit in this ?
My wish list is a bit different. Rather than the two seat Corolla Morizo could we select a different carrying case? Say a revived MR2 that’s not the expensive halo concept rumored one, but rather one like my Ol’ daily that was affordable. Let’s stretch the wheels further out to negate the need for a nose lift, add some smoother muscular body design, fit the modern nose language and widen the track a few inches to make quite the stable for those 300 ponies. I’d even be happy with Toyota’s electric motor up front to increase front grip with a few ponies and their weight to bring on the 50/50 balance. Too much an ask for a 390hp AWD GR MR2 that’s affordable? #probably 13:18
Nice car. Not available in the Netherlands but probably no one would buy it here because the Netherlands are the inventors of all TAX! We have an additional TAX they call BPM above the VAT so the starting price for a GR Yaris is around $ 88.000 US. With an automatic it is $ 101.500 US. So I guess a base GR Corolla would be $ 120.000 US 😂!
Yea these are great but a Circuit is gonna be $55k+ where I live. Used ones are $47k. Thats too steep for me.
12:26 not gonna happen with FWD ecoboxes that requires cables which always lack feel compared to top mounted/chassis mounted shifters
if I can afford multiple vehicles from Toyota it would have to be a Stout for a daily,Supra for a wekend Fun car,Sienna for Family and Tundra for a Tow Truck lol
Is this the Core Edition or something else?
It’s the Circuit Edition
You colonials need to try its little brother, the GR Yaris.
Can't, it is not sold here...
a sunroof hasnt been an option on the Corolla hatch (wisely IMO), cuz headroom as-is is modest
We need GR Camry for the 6-footers out there.
